FDA suspends Mumbai MLA hostel canteen contractor's licence after 'stale' food claim by legislator
The move came after an inspection revealed multiple violations under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and its associated regulations.
The suspension, effective Thursday, follows a incident in which Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad physically assaulted a canteen staffer, accusing the caterer of repeatedly serving substandard food.
The Buldhana legislator, from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, was captured on video slapping and punching an employee, prompting widespread public and political backlash.
The viral video shows Gaikwad confronting the canteen staff, allegedly forcing the employee to smell stale dal before assaulting him. Gaikwad later defended his actions, saying he had previously raised concerns about food quality multiple times but no action was taken.

ED will visit Khotkar's home for 3rd time, says Gorantyal
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Within a day of joining BJP, Jalna's former three-time MLA Kailash Gorantyal claimed that the Enforcement Directorate had twice visited Shiv Sena's five-time MLA Arjun Khotkar's residence, and the ED is expected to visit him for a third time in the Dhule cash seizure case. When contacted, Gorantyal confirmed his statement and said he felt compelled to respond after Khotkar began making personal comments about him during a live debate. Jammu, Aug 2 (UNI) Amidst protest, Jammu and Kashmir unit of Shiv Sena (UBT) today protested against the BCCI for agreeing to play against the Pakistan in an upcoming Asia Cup stating that restoration of sports relations with Pakistan, which has been playing the dirty game of terrorism for the last four decades will be an act that hurts the public sentiments of the nation.
