
Masdar City Drives In Level 4 Autonomous Vehicle Future
The programme involves the registration, safety certification and operational approval of fully autonomous vehicles for deployment across a 2.4 km geofenced route. The chosen circuit links key locations such as the Siemens building, North Car Park, My City Centre Masdar mall, Central Park, the International Renewable Energy Agency headquarters, MC2, and The Link. Initially, a safety officer will occupy each vehicle, with remote monitoring and control from a centralised operations hub expected as the trial progresses.
Level 4 autonomy permits vehicles to function without human intervention within a defined area, representing a significant leap in self‑driving technology. Solutions+ chief operations officer, Ali Alyafei, highlighted the trial's value in testing Level 4 systems across both infrastructure and climatic conditions unique to the UAE. Alyafei noted the collaboration supports the broader UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.
The proof‑of‑concept will assess performance, safety and adaptability under real‑world conditions. Feedback from the testing phase will inform adjustments to vehicle systems and supporting infrastructure to ensure compliance with Abu Dhabi's regulations. This groundwork is vital before any plans for expansion across the emirate.
Masdar City's commitment to autonomous mobility dates back to 2010, when first-generation AVs were introduced. Since then, it has continuously evolved into a showcase for urban sustainability and innovation. Today, it hosts approximately 15,000 residents and office workers, centred around industry clusters including smart mobility, energy, agritech, AI and space technology.
This new Level 4 initiative aligns with the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council strategy, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's position as a global contender in clean technology and sustainable transport. By offering a controlled yet genuine urban environment, Masdar City has become a magnet for international autonomous vehicle manufacturers seeking to refine their technology in real‑world conditions.

Security experts in UAE overwhelmed managing cybersecurity tools from multiple vendors
86% of companies in the UAE rely on multi-vendor ecosystems despite the fact that such fragmented security solutions lead to operational and financial strains. Such findings were revealed in the recent Kaspersky research. A study titled 'Improving resilience: cybersecurity through system immunity,' conducted by Kaspersky, examined how organisations manage cybersecurity today, focusing on vendor fragmentation, operational inefficiencies and future consolidation plans. The survey was conducted across the META (the Middle East, Türkiye and Africa) region, as well as Europe, Russia, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region. This report provides a comprehensive analysis of the current state of cybersecurity management across organizations, highlighting significant challenges associated with multi-vendor security environments. Despite these persistent challenges, a majority of organisations in the UAE continue to operate within multi-vendor environments – 86% currently manage security across multiple providers. Interestingly, nearly half (42%) believe that a single cybersecurity provider could sufficiently meet all their needs, suggesting a recognition of the potential benefits of consolidation. However, only 14% have adopted a single-vendor approach in practice, reflecting a cautious approach driven by concerns over over-reliance on one supplier or the perceived risks associated with vendor lock-in. The landscape is rapidly shifting toward consolidation: an overwhelming 93% of firms are actively moving in this direction, a quarter (21%) have already begun merging their security tools into unified platforms, while an additional 72% plan to do so within the next two years. This trend underscores a strategic shift toward simplifying cybersecurity operations, reducing costs, and achieving more effective threat management through integrated solutions. As organisations increasingly recognise the advantages of streamlined security architectures, the move toward vendor consolidation is poised to reshape the cybersecurity landscape in the near future. 'The data from our research indicates that many organisations rely on multiple vendors by default, rather than through deliberate strategic planning. While diversification of security solutions can offer certain benefits, such as risk mitigation and coverage breadth, an unchecked increase in complexity often leads to significant resource drain and operational inefficiencies. Moreover, this complexity can create critical blind spots, making it harder to maintain comprehensive threat visibility and respond effectively to emerging risks. The emerging trend toward consolidation reflects a maturation in cybersecurity strategies, emphasising the adoption of integrated platforms that streamline management, reduce manual effort, and enhance overall visibility into security posture', said Ilya Markelov, Head of Unified Platform product line at Kaspersky. Emerge signs 20-year solar energy deal with Misk City
Emerge, the energy solutions joint venture between Masdar and EDF power solutions, has signed a long-term solar energy agreement with Misk City to deliver sustainable electricity over the next 20 years. The agreement will see the development of a 621-kilowatt peak (kWp) rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) plant atop a dedicated carport structure and other assets within Misk City, located in the northwest of Riyadh. Once operational, the system is expected to significantly reduce the city's CO₂ footprint, contributing significantly to Misk City's ambition of achieving a higher level of environmental performance through LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification and establishing itself as one of the region's most advanced green urban communities. Emerge will undertake the full development and delivery of the project, including engineering and design, financing, procurement, construction, operations and maintenance. Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Capital has participated as one of the main investors alongside Insight Partners in the US$150 million Series C funding of Anaconda Inc, the company committed to advancing AI with open source at scale. The company operates profitably with over US$150 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) as of July 2025. The new funding values the startup at about US$1.5 billion.
