WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — River Bend Nature Center now has a new greenhouse, thanks to the folks at The Home Depot.
After receiving a $7,000 grant, multiple employees with Home Depot's Operation Surprise stopped by to help assemble and install the new greenhouse, which will be right outside the Butterfly and Nature Conservatory.

This comes as renovations are being made to several portions of RBNC, which Executive Director Jennica Lambert said will hopefully be ready around the beginning of the summer.
Assistant Store Manager for Home Depot Stephany Vasquez said they're just happy to be a part of something that will help future generations for years to come.
'Jennica is a really good partner with us, and we love what they do here in the community for everybody. 'And we just thought, you know, we'd try to see if the Home Depot Foundation would help fund this project,' Vasquez said.

Lowe's makes huge billion-dollar bet to take on Home Depot

One of the most difficult problems a retailer must solve is differentiating itself from the competition. In some cases, it's pretty easy to sell customers on your diversity. Related: Huge bankrupt retail chain closing down all stores after 80 years Chick-fil-A, for instance, offers some pretty unbeatable sauce along with its famously fresh chicken. Not many other fast-food restaurants offer such a consistently quality product, which is why you see cars lining up around the block during lunch and dinner hours. Lululemon is another great example. Try as other athletic apparel brands might, nobody can quite replicate that buttery soft material that its popular Align leggings and other stretchy products offer. It's also how Lululemon gets away with charging about $100 for a pair of workout pants. But many other retailers struggle to tell their customers how they're different, and why they deserve your business. One type of retail store that struggles to sell customers on differentiation is the home improvement space. Two of the largest players in the industry, Home Depot (HD) and Lowe's (LOW) , are typically neck in neck when it comes to loyalty. This is partly because they've just got the most locations. This means both of these retailers are reasonably easy to access, and with such a wide variety, beat out most smaller competitors. But there's still an issue Home Depot and Lowe's must resolve. That's how to remain competitive with each other - and avoid getting beaten out or falling to the wayside. In 2024, Home Depot made its largest acquisition ever when it bought SRS Distribution of McKinney, Texas, for $18.25 billion. The company provides goods and materials for home-improvement professionals and contractors, including roofing supplies, lumber, and plumbing. But Lowe's is right behind Home Depot, also betting on making pros' jobs easier. Artisan Design Group, or ADG, was previously owned by private equity firm Sterling Group and had 3,200 employees spread throughout 18 states. Now, Sterling Group has sold the professional interior design company to Lowe's as the home improvement retailer continues to bet big on large-scale projects. ADG helps home builders carry out and oversee design projects from the fulfillment process all the way to installation. "This acquisition positions us to accelerate our expand into an adjacent distribution channel in a highly fragmented, approximately $50 billion market," Lowe's CEO Marvin Ellison said. ICE officials ‘threatened' over low deportation numbers

Immigration officers were 'eviscerated' for not deporting illegal migrants fast enough during a heated meeting with senior Trump administration officials in Washington. Stephen Miller, the White House's deputy chief of staff and a key architect of Donald Trump's immigration policy, left 50 senior officers feeling their jobs were at risk, according to the Washington Examiner. A string of officials described Mr Miller's fury. 'Miller came in there and eviscerated everyone. 'You guys aren't doing a good job. You're horrible leaders.' He just ripped into everybody. He had nothing positive to say about anybody, shot morale down,' said an official who spoke with those in the room during the meeting. 'Stephen Miller wants everybody arrested. 'Why aren't you at Home Depot? Why aren't you at 7-Eleven?'' There is growing tension that Mr Trump's mass deportations is not proceeding quickly enough. He was elected on a promise to enact the biggest deportation operation in history and set a target of removing one million people each year. However, with fewer migrants presenting themselves at the border, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers face the more complicated prospect of identifying illegal immigrants already in the country. Data released so far suggest the administration is on course to deport about half a million people this year, according to analysis by the Migration Policy Institute. That is fewer than the 685,000 deported by Joe Biden during his final year in office. Against that background, dozens of top ICE officers were ordered to attend an emergency meeting in Washington DC, on May 20. Axios reported that Mr Miller and Kristi Noem, the homeland security secretary, ordered them to adopt a target of arresting 3,000 people a day. Insiders said the result was collapsing morale within ICE. 'They've been threatened, told they're watching their emails and texts and Signals,' the first official said. 'That's what is horrible about things right now. It's a fearful environment.' An administration spokesmen said the reporting mischaracterised the meeting. 'Stephen Miller did not say many of the things you state,' said Laszlo Baksay, ICE deputy assistant director of media affairs. Broaden your horizons with award-winning British journalism. 2 cars slam into Home Depot store in Niles, Illinois

Two cars plowed into a Home Depot store in the north Chicago suburb of Niles Monday afternoon. The crash happened at the Home Depot on Civic Center Drive, near the southeast corner of Oakton Street and Waukegan Road. One of the cars crashed directly into the Home Depot building and caused damage. The other hit a protective cage where propane cylinders are located. Due to the involvement of the propane cylinders, hazardous materials crews were called and the Home Depot building was evacuated. All nonessential personnel were directed to the parking lot. There was no immediate word on injuries or the circumstances leading up to the crash.
