Pat Cummins-led Australian team will look to bounce back from their loss in the WTC 2025 Final against South Africa earlier this month as they begin their three-match Test series against the West Indies at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados on Wednesday. Australia, who were the defending WTC champions, stunningly lost to Temba Bavuma's South Africa at Lord's.
They will face the Windies team at home, who are looking to start a new chapter under a new skipper Roston Chase – who is replacing Kraigg Brathwaite as captain. The home side will see the return of former ODI captain Shai Hope to the Test arena and he is expected to take up the wicketkeeping duties in the first Test as well.
WI's ODI opener Brandon Kings is set to make his Test debut at the No. 4 position. They will have a strong bowling attack led by pacers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph along side Jayden Seales.
Australia, on the other hand, have dropped out-of-form opener Marnus Labuschagne and he will be replaced by youngster Sam Konstas – who made a sensational debut against India last year. They will also miss the services of injured Steve Smith, who will be replaced by Josh Inglis at the No. 4 position. Cummins has also decided to stick with all-rounder Beau Webster ahead of left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann for the first Test.

'Bumrah Ka Saath Dena Hoga': Shami Wants Indian Bowlers To Step Up And Take Wickets
Last Updated: India bowlers produced a forgettable show in the first Test, and as a result, the Shubman Gill-led side failed to defend the target of 371 runs and went down by 5 wickets. Mohammed Shami is not happy with India's bowling performance in the first Test against England, which concluded on Tuesday (June 24) at Headingley with Shubman Gill-led side's defeat by five wickets. In the series opener, Indian bowlers, apart from Jasprit Bumrah, leaked runs and failed to take wickets as well. Shami, who was ignored by BCCI selectors for the ongoing five-match away series, wants bowlers to come up with a good show in the next four matches and take wickets with the new ball. In the first innings, Bumrah picked up one wicket for India in the first over before Ollie Pope (106) and Ben Duckett (62) added 122 runs for the second wicket, and in the second innings, Duckett (149) and Zak Crawley (65) added 188 runs for the first wicket in the 371-run chase. 'We dropped a lot of catches, and we need to work on it because at this level you can't drop easy catches and do misfielding because the match can slip, which eventually did as well. In bowling, other Indian bowlers should talk to Bumrah and learn from him. They should talk about planning with him and support him. If they will support Bumrah, then we can easily win the match," Shami said on his YouTube channel. 'If I talk about the first match, then I think we need to do a little work in the bowling. Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna picked up two wickets each in the 2nd innings, but by the time Shardul dismissed two England batters, the match was out of India's reach." 'There is still so much left in the series, and for India to win, it will be important to bowl well. You have to take wickets with the new ball. As a bowling unit, we need to plan better so that we can win the match." First Published: June 26, 2025, 19:17 IST

In this Test, Shubman Gill has a chance to create history. Actually, the Indian team has not been able to win on this ground so far. Team India played the first match on this ground in 1967. Be it Virat Kohli or Dhoni or Dravid or Sourav Ganguly, no Indian captain has won here in 58 years. However, Gill will have a chance to get his name registered in the history books. If he manages to end the drought of 58 years, he will become the first Indian captain to win at Edgbaston in Birmingham. India's history at Edgbaston: When India played a Test match at Edgbaston for the first time in 1967, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was the captain. England defeated Team India by 132 runs. In 1986, Team India played a Test at Edgbaston under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. This match was a draw and according to the records, Kapil is the first Indian captain to draw a Test at Edgbaston. According to statistics, he is also the most successful Indian captain at Edgbaston. India stayed away from the Edgbaston ground for 10 years: After that, Team India stayed away from the Edgbaston ground for 10 years. Then in 1996, Team India came to play a Test match on this ground under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin. In that match, England defeated India by eight wickets. On India's tour of England in 2021-22, the Indian team played four Tests under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, but the fifth Test was postponed due to COVID-19. It was played in August 2022. By then Kohli had stepped down from the captaincy. In such a situation, Jasprit Bumrah captained Team India and India lost this Test by seven wickets. Before this match, India were ahead in the series by 2-1. If the match had happened then, Kohli also had a chance to create history. However, this could not happen.
