Steve Sarkisian & Texas Longhorns Plan For Post-Arch Manning Era
Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns are looking to live their natty dreams with Arch Manning at the helm this year. However, they are also looking at life after the 21-year-old quarterback takes his talents to the NFL.
Manning is seen as a generational talent. That last name lends a certain air to him that extremely few athletes, let alone quarterbacks, have the luxury of. Thus, picking the one to succeed him would be just as important.
It would appear that the Texas Longhorns have their eyes set on two quarterbacks from the 2027 recruiting class, and they have extended an offer to both of them.
First on their list is Peyton Houston, a 4-star prospect out of Evangel Christian Academy, Cotton Valley, Los Angeles. On3 predicts he'll be going to USC, but the Longhorns have the second-best odds to bring him to Austin.
Second on their list is in-state talent Kavian Bryant out of Palestine High School, East Texas. Another blockbuster prospect at quarterback who has been a highly recruited athlete. Again, in his case, the Longhorns have an uphill battle as per the On3 predictor, where Texas A&M, Texas Tech, SMU, and Michigan have a better chance at his commitment.
However, if this year goes well for the Longhorns and Manning leads them to the success promised and expected from him, Texas will become a serious hotspot for top high school recruits. More than it already is.
Texas stands at a unique position where they have a chance to dethrone the Big Ten from the national championship and become the face of the SEC. Despite being a recent entrant, they are already one of the strongest programs.
The Alabama Crimson Tide has been the face of the conference in the recent past. But given that they are at a transitional phase and might take another year to get back to glory days, Texas has a much better chance at being accepted as the SEC's favorite team.
Getting atop the SEC pyramid could bolster their repute amongst the recruits, and they could bag either of the above quarterbacks in the next class. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 26, 2025, where it first appeared.

Jerry Jones Claims He Received Death Threats When He Bought the Dallas Cowboys and Fired Coach Tom Landry
NEED TO KNOW Jerry Jones claimed that he received multiple death threats shortly after he bought the Dallas Cowboys in 1989 In the new Netflix docuseries America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys, the owner looks back on what happened after he fired legendary coach Tom Landry Jones hired his longtime friend and former teammate Jimmy Johnson as Landry's successor When Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys in February 1989 and then fired legendary head coach Tom Landry, virtually no one in the franchise's fandom was happy with the Arkansas oil man. Then, he installed himself as president and general manager — an unheard of move in the NFL — riling even more of the team's supporters. But none of his decisions in the early days of owning America's Team had prepared him for the extreme criticism from Cowboys Nation. 'I was Darth Vader,' Jones, 82, recalls in the new Netflix docuseries America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys. Jones told Arkansas state lawmakers at the time that he had received multiple death threats. 'They're serious about their football in the state of Texas, almost as much as we are in Arkansas,' he says in the doc. After Landry's firing, more than 100,000 people turned out for a parade through the streets of downtown Dallas to honor the Cowboys coach of 29 years. 'Jerry and the Jones family had broken into the museum and taken our most valuable possession,' former ABC affiliate WFAA-TV sportscaster Dale Hansen says in the doc, describing the affection fans had for the former coach. Looking back, even Jones confesses it may have been a rash decision to fire Landry — whose team notched a 3-13 record during his final season in 1988. 'The firing of Coach Landry was certainly one of the great PR missteps, maybe of all time,' Jones says. 'Because I still wear that.' At a press conference later termed the Saturday Night Massacre — a reference to the Watergate scandal — Jones announced his intentions with the team. One day later, he fired Landry and named longtime friend and fellow University of Arkansas teammate Jimmy Johnson as the new coach of the Cowboys. Charlotte Jones Anderson, Jones' daughter and the team's executive vice president and chief brand officer, recalls thinking after the press conference, "What do we do?' Jones says he had no choice but to forge ahead. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. His team in Dallas — nicknamed the City of Hate due to President John F. Kennedy's 1963 assassination — was coming together, and that's when Jones truly laid it all on the line, he says. 'With all that hate, I could stop and cry or I could just keep going,' Jones says. 'But I'm not gonna take my marbles and go home. I can't, I burned all my ships when I landed." Yoel Romero has inked his bareknuckle boxing debut. The former UFC title challenger is set to make his first appearance for BKFC against Theo Doukas at BKFC 80 on Sept. 12 at Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Fla. The bout will be contested at heavyweight. The news of Romero's debut was announced by the promotion on Tuesday. Romero, 48, signed with BKFC in July. He was coming off two KO finishes competing in Mike Perry's Dirty Boxing Championship – which is a striking competition with small gloves but doesn't involve any grappling or groundwork. "The Soldier of God" is mainly known for his 10-year run in the UFC where he fought for the middleweight title multiple times and cemented himself as one of the world's best. After his UFC departure, Romero had a short stint with Bellator and PFL, going 3-2.
