INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark had to have known it was coming. Even before she could walk off the Gainbridge Fieldhouse court Saturday evening, return to the locker room and plug back into the awfully obtuse but very loud world of social media, Clark knew what the world would be talking about.

T.J. and Megan McConnell swap jerseys before Game 1 of NBA Finals
T.J. and Megan McConnell are known to have strong sibling love and on Thursday night, they supported each other's basketball journeys from afar. The brother-sister duo showed up to their respective games wearing each others jerseys as T.J. was making his first appearance in the NBA Finals in Oklahoma City. Megan was sidelined with injury from the Phoenix Mercury's game against the Golden State Valkyries. Both T.J. and Megan were star players at Chartiers Valley before going on to play college basketball at Duquesne University and entering the NBA and WNBA, respectively. When T.J. showed up to the Paycom Center for Game 1 of the NBA Finals, he did so wearing Megan's Mercury jersey. Megan made her WNBA debut earlier this week, scoring three points during 13 minutes of playing time before she suffered a knee injury and is now expected to be sidelined for several weeks. Even though she was sidelined for Thursday night's Phoenix game, she showed up wearing T.J.'s Pacers jersey. For T.J. and the Pacers, it was a good night as Indiana stunned Oklahoma City with a 111-110 comeback win to take a 1-0 series lead in the Finals. T.J. McConnell is just the ninth player from the WPIAL or Pittsburgh's City League to play in the nearly 80 years of the NBA Finals.

Study may lead to redesign of Quincy fieldhouse project
Jun. 5—QUINCY — Quincy Valley Regional Parks District officials may have to review the preliminary design following a feasibility study for the Quincy fieldhouse, called the Q-Plex, presented to commissioners Tuesday. Parks District Executive Director Pat Haley said the original design might not be able to accomplish the original objective. "One (turf) field inside isn't enough to draw people," Haley said. "Whatever it is, it has to be multiple. If you're going to have soccer tournaments come to your town, you have to have multiple fields. Just breaking the existing field into four smaller ones isn't enough to bring people to town for a tournament." While multiple smaller fields might attract youth activities, it won't attract adult tournaments. "The recommendation from the feasibility study is to redesign, not necessarily change the components, but redesign the facility to be more suitable to type of use it's going to receive," Haley said. The parks district was approved by voters in the Quincy area in 2023, and one of the proposed projects is the Q-Plex. It's projected to be about 143,000 square feet, with a turf field and indoor courts. Haley said one of the purposes of the proposed building would be hosting tournaments that would bring people from out of town. While people won't schedule tournaments on a smaller-than-regulation turf field, he said, there are other options. "(The study) did provide a layout of a facility that is somewhat similar to what we have. But instead of having one big field and two (hardwood) courts, it has one big field and four courts," Haley said. The courts could be configured for basketball, volleyball, wrestling or other sports, he said, and the study determined it would be an attractive tournament venue in that situation. What that would mean for the design is still being studied. "We're checking to make sure it fits in our original footprint," he said. The original design called for a steel frame covered with a membrane, but the feasibility study recommended using steel for the walls, Haley said. A more detailed presentation on the potential economic impact is scheduled for next month, he said. "We're checking to make sure (the recommended design) fits in the original footprint," Haley said.

Liberty-Eylau falls in state title game
ROUND ROCK, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) — The Liberty-Eylau baseball team fell in the state title game 4-3 Thursday night against Corpus Christi London. The Leopards led 3-2 in the 5th inning but gave up a pair of runs in the top of the inning to give up the lead. Liberty-Eylau struggled at the plate, finishing the game with just two hits. The Leopards tied the game at one when Collin Evans grounded out in the 1st inning, scoring Eli Jarvis on the fielders choice. In the 2nd inning the Leopards would take the lead after a sacrifice fly that would score junior Maddax Moore. The Leopards weren't able to score a run the rest of the game, falling short of back-to-back state championships. Zach Fowler's crew would go on to finish the season with a record of 36-5.
