Howie Roseman's pursuit of Kyle McCord was deliberate, not accidental

USA Today10-05-2025

Howie Roseman's pursuit of Kyle McCord was deliberate, not accidental Kyle McCord's selection was no accident. The Eagles GM knew exactly what he was doing.
His story is well-known.
New Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Kyle McCord is a Mount Laurel, New Jersey native. He attended St. Joseph's Preparatory. There, he teamed with another future Ohio State Buckeyes star, wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. He finished his high school career with 6,887 passing yards, a Philadelphia Catholic League record, and 88 touchdown passes.
He spent his freshman season primarily backing up now-Houston Texans star C.J. Stroud at Ohio State. One thing led to another. One week before Christmas in 2023, he announced he would transfer to Syracuse to be the Orange's field general.
That decision worked out. He led the ACC with 391 completions and 4,779 passing yards. He also tossed 34 TD passes en route to a Second-Team All-Conference nomination. Former Miami Hurricanes star and new Tennessee Titans signal-caller Cam Ward stopped him from being named to the First Team.
Ward heard his name called first overall during the 2025 NFL Draft. McCord was taken 180 spots later in Round 6. That has sparked some discussion.
Make no mistake, though. Howie Roseman and the Eagles wanted McCord. They had a plan to acquire him, which worked perfectly.
Howie Roseman details the deliberate approach the Eagles took to acquiring Kyle McCord.
Eagles, both current and former, are no strangers to The Rich Eisen Show. Recently, Howie Roseman was welcomed to the broadcast following the most recent NFL Draft. Everything was on the table, from Jihaad Campbell's surprise selection at 31 to Philly's fans and, of course, the Tush Push ban.
Howie's take on the Kyle McCord selection was interesting. Let's say this isn't just someone the Birds wound up with. Howie and his staff had a plan. Philly's GM was particularly hands-on. He contacted Syracuse offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon for further evaluation and loved the feedback.
'(He's a) really quick processor. The ball's coming out really quickly with anticipation and accuracy. You know, leading passer in the NCAA. You just go down his games this year, and it's like 340, 380, 390. I mean, it's unbelievable. He's throwing the ball all over the field.'
McCord earns his opportunity to do what Kenny Pickett did last season: play for the team he grew up rooting for. Please make no mistake about it. The Eagles' organization has also watched what McCord has been doing.
'We know him really well. (He's a) St. Joe's prep graduate (and a) three-time state champion in high school. (He) goes to Ohio State. I think he had two career losses at Ohio State, you know, as a starter, and then goes to Syracuse and just performs really well there.'
McCord is the first former Syracuse standout to be drafted by the Birds since Donovan McNabb. He joins a QB room led by the new Eagles offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo.
Parks Frazier is the passing game coordinator, and Scot Loeffler is the new quarterbacks coach. McCord will now bounce ideas off of them and teammates Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. He's going to be just fine.

Oregon WR Evan Stewart could miss 2025 season after suffering reported knee injury

Evan Stewart transferred to Oregon from Texas A&M ahead of the 2024 season. (Photo by Robin Alam/) Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart could miss part or all of the 2025 season after suffering a knee injury earlier in the week. Per ESPN, the injury is 'potentially season-ending.' According to On3, Stewart tore his patellar tendon. Advertisement Stewart was set to be Oregon's top returning receiver for the 2025 season. He was Oregon's second-leading receiver in 2024 with 48 catches for 613 yards and 5 touchdowns. Only Tez Johnson had more catches than Stewart, who missed the Ducks' Rose Bowl loss to Ohio State because of a lower back injury. Stewart is a former five-star recruit who signed with Texas A&M out of high school. He was the No. 33 prospect in the country and the No. 4 wide receiver in his class behind 2025 NFL draft picks Luther Burden III and Tetairoa McMillan and LSU wide receiver Aaron Anderson. The 2024 season was Stewart's first with the Ducks after two seasons with the Aggies. He had 91 catches for 1,163 yards and 6 TDs over 18 games at A&M. If Stewart is out for the season, the Ducks will need to replace both Johnson and Stewart at wide receiver along with TE Terrance Ferguson as Johnson and Ferguson are headed to the NFL. Oregon will also have a new quarterback after Dillon Gabriel was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and former UCLA QB Dante Moore presumably takes over as the starter. Oregon went 13-0 in the regular season and won the Big Ten title before losing to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff.

NFL Analyst Suggests Eagles Could Trade for Bengals' All-Pro

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Will the rich get richer ahead of the 2025 NFL season? The Philadelphia Eagles have always shown a willingness to avoid getting comfortable by wheeling and dealing. Whenever there is a top trade candidate on the market, you can bet Howie Roseman is trying to get his fingerprints on it. Right now, Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro pass rusher Trey Hendrickson is one of the most notable players on the trade block. The Eagles haven't been linked to Hendrickson just yet, but that could change in an instant. Recently, NFL Analyst Marc Ross labeled the Eagles as a team he wants to see trade for Hendrickson before the start of the 2025 NFL season. Why Would the Eagles Get Involved in a Hendrickson Deal? "The Eagles dominated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl with a relentless pass rush, but Philadelphia has questions on that front heading into the 2025 campaign, given the loss of Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith's injury and the inherent need for young guys like Moro Ojomo (2023 seventh-round pick) and Jalyx Hunt (2024 third-rounder) to level up," Ross writes. Trey Hendrickson #91 of the Cincinnati Bengals lines up before the snap during an NFL football game against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium on November 7, 2024 in Baltimore, Maryland. Trey Hendrickson #91 of the Cincinnati Bengals lines up before the snap during an NFL football game against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium on November 7, 2024 in Baltimore, Maryland."General manager Howie Roseman hit big on the trade for wide receiver A.J. Brown in 2022. Trading for Hendrickson, who's in a contract standoff with the Bengals, could provide a similar effect for the defense. Plus, the Eagles just cleared more cap space by dealing Huff. This would be a case of the rich getting richer -- and a move I wouldn't put past Philly." Roseman has always shown that he prioritizes stars in the trenches. A lot of the Eagles' success on defense in the past started up front, with the big fellas getting to the quarterback and disrupting throws more often than not. Philadelphia's front line on defense shined bright against Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl, and showed teams across the league just how much of a difference-maker a relentless pass rush can be. The Eagles have formed a bit of a youth movement recently, but Hendrickson's timeline matches a squad that's looking to compete for a title now. The 30-year-old remains in his prime, being that he's been named a Pro Bowler for the past four seasons—with his first All-Pro nod coming in 2024. Last year, Hendrickson appeared in 17 games for the Bengals. He registered a career-high 17.5 sacks, which is a number he notched one season before that. Last year's ability to get to nearly 18 sacks allowed Hendrickson to lead the entire NFL for the first time in his career.
