Four cops in remand in bribery case involving couple
MELAKA: Four policemen have been remanded for five days for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe amounting to RM2,000.
The money was allegedly taken as an inducement for not taking action against an individual found with his lover inside a car.
The remand order, which lasts until June 28, was issued by Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman at the Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh here.
All four were detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission at the commission's Melaka office on Monday.
Two of the suspects are corporals, aged 33 and 36, another is a 26-year-old constable and the fourth is a 40-year-old police volunteer reserve holding the rank of corporal.
All the suspects are believed to have stopped the complainant, who was in a vehicle with his fiancee at the parking area of Jalan Melaka Mall in Ayer Keroh.
Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest and said the suspects are being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.

MACC To Forfeit Ilham Tower, UK Approves Seizure Of Daim Family Assets
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is pursuing a forfeiture application involving assets of the late Tun Daim Zainuddin and his family, including Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur and high-value properties in the United Kingdom. According to MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, the UK authorities approved a restraining order on June 24 following a grant on June 5, allowing the commission to proceed with legal actions involving Daim-linked assets abroad. A case management hearing is scheduled for July 9. The move to seize Ilham Tower follows earlier actions under the Anti-Money Laundering Act in December 2023. The forfeiture application will be filed under Section 55 or 56 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLATFPUAA). The UK properties, reportedly worth £132 million (approximately RM758 million), are said to include luxury residences and commercial real estate linked to Daim's widow, Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid. These actions are part of MACC's ongoing investigations sparked by the Pandora Papers and allegations of over RM2 billion in undeclared assets. The commission stated that forfeiture efforts operate independently of criminal prosecution, with the agency prioritising public interest and asset recovery. Related

[UPDATED] MACC to seek court order to forfeit Menara Ilham
PUTRAJAYA: Graftbusters will apply for the forfeiture of Menara Ilham, a building owned by the family of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, today. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the application would be filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court. It was previously reported that the MACC had received authorisation from the deputy public prosecutor to seize the building on Jalan Binjai for a second time. This seizure prohibits all dealings involving the transfer of ownership of the property. Azam then said the forfeiture would be carried out under Section 55 or Section 56 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act. Section 55 allows for the forfeiture of property following a conviction, while Section 56 provides for civil forfeiture without the need for prosecution or conviction. Ilham Tower, located in downtown Kuala Lumpur near the Petronas Twin Towers, houses a four-star hotel, office spaces, a gallery, and other facilities. In December 2023, the MACC invoked its powers to take control of the 274-metre-tall skyscraper, estimated to be worth between RM1.5 billion and RM2 billion.

Prolintas COO fined RM100,000 for failing to report RM90,000 bribe
KUALA LUMPUR: Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) chief operating officer (operations and project) Rostam Shahrif Tami was today fined RM100,000 for failing to report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) a RM90,000 bribe he received two years ago. Sessions Court judge Rosli Ahmad handed down the maximum fine to Rostam, 59, after he pleaded guilty to an alternative charge linked to the award of work packages for the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) privatisation project. Rosli said he found Rostam, who stood in the dock, guilty as charged under Section 25(1) of the MACC Act. "After going through the facts of the case, your plea, the prosecution's aggravating factors and weighing public interest, I fine you RM100,000, in default 10 months' jail," he said in his judgment. The judge also ordered seized funds linked to the offence, amounting to over RM1 million, including RM114,000 in bonds for seven luxury watches and two cars, as well as RM180,000 in Rostam's Tabung Haji account, to be forfeited to the government.
