MACC arrests ex-manager for abuse of power
MELAKA: A former administrative manager of a Melaka government-linked company was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly abusing his position to recommend his wife for the firms fire insurance purchase. The 44-year-old man was arrested around 2.15pm yesterday while giving his statement at the Melaka MACC office. He was brought to the Ayer Keroh Magistrates Court today, where Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin allowed a two-day remand until tomorrow. The MACC is investigating the case under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009. The suspect allegedly recommended his wife for the companys fire insurance purchase about four years ago. Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest.

Four cops in remand in bribery case involving couple
MELAKA: Four policemen have been remanded for five days for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe amounting to RM2,000. The money was allegedly taken as an inducement for not taking action against an individual found with his lover inside a car. The remand order, which lasts until June 28, was issued by Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman at the Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh here. All four were detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission at the commission's Melaka office on Monday. Two of the suspects are corporals, aged 33 and 36, another is a 26-year-old constable and the fourth is a 40-year-old police volunteer reserve holding the rank of corporal. All the suspects are believed to have stopped the complainant, who was in a vehicle with his fiancee at the parking area of Jalan Melaka Mall in Ayer Keroh. Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrest and said the suspects are being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.

Melaka temple officials remanded over RM50,000 embezzlement
MELAKA: The chairman and secretary of a temple association in the state have been remanded for six days until Monday (June 23) to assist in the investigation into the embezzlement of RM50,000 from the house of worship last year. Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani granted the remand application by the Melaka Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against the two men, aged 61 and 75, to assist in the investigation under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009. Sources said that they were arrested at 11.45 am yesterday when they appeared at the Melaka MACC office to assist in the investigation into a case related to the abuse of power and position by withdrawing association funds without any approval or presentation at a committee meeting. The money was said to have been expended for personal use. Meanwhile, Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie when contacted confirmed the arrest and remand.

Two senior temple officials remanded over RM50,000 fund misuse probe
MELAKA: The chairman and secretary of a state temple association have been remanded for six days to assist with an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of RM50,000 from the organisation last year. Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani granted the remand order against the 61-year-old and 75-year-old suspects, effective today until June 23, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation officer. The suspects, dressed in MACC lock-up attire, arrived at the Ayer Keroh Court Complex at 9am. According to a source, both suspects were detained at 11.45am yesterday while giving statements at the Melaka MACC office. "They are believed to have abused their power and position by withdrawing RM50,000 from the association's funds without the approval or tabling of the matter during a committee meeting. "It is understood the money was also used for personal purposes last year," the source said. Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrests and remand when contacted, but declined to comment further as the case was still under investigation.
