Melaka temple officials remanded over RM50,000 embezzlement
Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani granted the remand application by the Melaka Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against the two men, aged 61 and 75, to assist in the investigation under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
Sources said that they were arrested at 11.45 am yesterday when they appeared at the Melaka MACC office to assist in the investigation into a case related to the abuse of power and position by withdrawing association funds without any approval or presentation at a committee meeting.
The money was said to have been expended for personal use.
Meanwhile, Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie when contacted confirmed the arrest and remand.

Border agency officers foil diesel smuggling attempt at Bukit Kayu Hitam
BUKIT KAYU HITAM: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MBCA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 2,500 litres of diesel across the northern border using a trailer lorry fitted with a modified storage tank. The foreign-registered vehicle was stopped during a routine inspection at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Integrated Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (ICQS) between 8.30am and 11am today. Bukit Kayu Hitam MBCA special operations chief Saiful Jeffery Razali said an inspection of the trailer found a specially modified tank compartment designed to conceal the fuel from the authorities. He said the seizure was valued at RM87,500, comprising RM7,500 for the diesel and RM80,000 for the trailer lorry. "The bust underscores the agency's commitment to tackling smuggling activities, particularly those involving vehicle modifications to transport controlled goods," he said in a statement today. The case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for vehicle modifications intended for smuggling, and Section 64(1) of the same Act for vehicle seizure for investigation. Saiful said that from Jan 1 this year until today, the Bukit Kayu Hitam MBCA had seized 10 vehicles used in diesel smuggling via modified fuel tanks, with total seizures amounting to RM957,800. "MBCA will continue to strengthen strategic cooperation with all enforcement agencies to safeguard the nation's borders and foil every smuggling attempt," he said.

Probe of Pamela Ling's abduction still ongoing, Saifuddin tells Dewan Rakyat
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are still investigating the disappearance of Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping with intent to wrongfully confine, the Dewan Rakyat was told. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the investigation paper is being processed and several documents are being finalised by the investigating officer before being submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for further instructions. "The Home Ministry would like to clarify that the police remain committed to investigating any reported cases of abduction or disappearance following standard operating procedures and existing legal provisions," he told Ram Karpal Singh (PH-Bukit Gelugor), who asked the ministry to reveal the status of the investigation. Ram Karpal also wanted to know whether or not the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is being investigated in connection with the case, considering that Ling was reportedly abducted on her way to the commission's office on April 9. Saifuddin said the police would cooperate with other enforcement agencies, including the MACC, in conducting investigations when required. On the day of her disappearance, Ling was on her way to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to assist an investigation under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. However, she reportedly went missing on the way to the appointment. Her lawyer lodged a police report the same day. CCTV footage showed her being abducted by several men. So far, no ransom demand has been received.

Thai woman detained in Ipoh for abusing social visit pass
IPOH: A Thai woman's attempt to earn quick money in Malaysia ended abruptly after she was detained by immigration authorities for misusing her social visit pass. The 25-year-old suspect had entered Malaysia just three days earlier via bus from Bangkok through the Hatyai border. She admitted to earning RM100 in commissions over two days, receiving RM50 per customer at a massage parlour in Tambun. When questioned, she revealed that the RM110 package offered included massage services and oral sex. She was among three Thai nationals arrested during Op Gegar, a joint operation by Perak, Kuala Lumpur, and Selangor Immigration offices. State Immigration director Datuk James Lee Perak confirmed that 54 foreign women were detained in raids across 13 locations in Ipoh. The suspects, aged 20 to 35, included 48 Thais, two Indonesians, and four Vietnamese, all under investigation for immigration violations. 'Our focus is cracking down on immoral activities, particularly in massage parlours,' Lee stated during a press conference. He added that intelligence teams conducted 14 days of surveillance before enforcement officers took action with 91 personnel involved. Many of the women entered Malaysia on social visit passes but were found working illegally, some offering outcall services. Clients were reportedly recruited via TikTok and WhatsApp, with services priced between RM50 and RM100.
