Thai man held for alleged sodomy
MELAKA: A 13-year-old boy has allegedly been a victim of sodomy and sexual abuse for three years by a Thai national who was a religious teacher here. The alleged abuse reportedly began when the child was 10 years old and continued until after he moved to a mosque in Bukit Rambai last year. According to a source, the child disclosed the alleged incidents to his 35-year-old mother, who then filed a police report on April 14. The child reportedly contacted his mother, expressing his desire to live with her in Kuala Lumpur because he could no longer endure the alleged abuse by the religious teacher, who was also an imam. The source revealed that the child claimed the initial incident occurred around August 2022 at night within a Quran academy class in Perak, where he was studying at the time. Subsequently, the man allegedly secretly brought the child to live with him at the mosque in Bukit Rambai last year, purportedly for the continuation of his studies, without the mother's knowledge. However, the source said that the studies did not take place. Instead, the suspect and the child allegedly lived together in a room at the mosque. During this period, the victim claimed that he was frequently subjected to sexual abuse by the suspect and was threatened to remain silent. Even after the child moved in with his mother, the suspect allegedly continued to contact him via WhatsApp, attempting to persuade him to return, the source said. The 28-year-old man was remanded for seven days starting yesterday. The remand order was issued by Melaka magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani to facilitate the investigation under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (AKKSTKK) 2017, Utusan Malaysia reported. Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit confirmed the police report and the suspect's remand when contacted.
