Overseas Pakistanis: Special Facilitation Desks in major cities
ISLAMABAD: In order to facilitate the Overseas Pakistanis, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Monday created Special Facilitation Desks in some major cities of the country.
The FBR has created Special Facilitation Desk for guidance of the overseas Pakistanis at Regional Tax Office (RTO), Islamabad; RTO Lahore; RTO, Peshawar and RTO-I, Karachi.
The details of the 'Contact Persons' are also available on the FBR's official website.
Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has already established the Overseas Pakistanis Grievances Redressal Cell (OPGRC) in the FTO Secretariat to deal with the complaints of overseas Pakistanis against the FBR.

The complaints relating to Income Tax/Customs/ Sales Tax/Federal Excise lodged by any overseas Pakistani shall be taken up with FBR/relevant tax-authority for a report/redres-sal within 15 days of its receipt and complainants will be kept informed about the progress/redressal of their cases through E-mail, WhatsApp, voice messages and Phone.
In case the relevant tax authority fails to redress the grievance, lodged with it, within 30 days, it shall be automatically transferred to the Complaint Management Information System (CMIS)of FTO Secretariat for further investigation and allocation to the relevant Advisor/Investigation Officer in terms of Federal Tax Ombudsman Investigation and Disposal of Complaints Regulations, 2001.
The order said that close liaison shall be maintained with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development, Labour and Manpower, Pakistan Missions Abroad, Community Welfare Attaches and Labour Attaches abroad to facilitate early redressal of taxpayers' grievances and follow up, FTO's order added.

Govt vows full support for pharma sector, announces export issues desk
Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan on Wednesday reaffirmed the government commitment to boosting pharmaceutical exports, announcing the establishment of an empowered Pharma Export Promotion Council, PharmEx Pakistan, under the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, according to a ministry statement. The minister's remarks came during a presentation by Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association (PPMA) Chairman Touqeer ul Haq, who briefed him on the formation of Pharmax Pakistan, a public-private initiative to promote and manage pharmaceutical exports, the Commerce Ministry said. He appreciated the industry's rapid progress and assured continued government facilitation to achieve global export targets. Centralised fund: pharma sector urges govt to let it utilise 1% of profit on in-house R&D activities On trade with Afghanistan, he stated, 'With every passing day, our relations are growing stronger and more streamlined – pharmaceutical exports will rise accordingly.' Chairman Touqeer ul Haq praised the minister's prompt action in addressing critical issues, stating it helped the industry avoid major financial losses. He added that Pharmax Pakistan has the potential to raise pharmaceutical exports from USD 700 million to USD 3 billion. The initiative builds on strong sectoral growth, with exports rising from USD 270 million in 2020–21 to USD 355 million in 2024–25, as noted in the latest industry figures. Pharma bodies decry being ignored by SCQB Touqeer ul Haq also called for better facilitation of exports to Afghanistan, a key market, and welcomed the minister's assurance of focused policy coordination. Pharmax Pakistan is expected to serve as a dedicated platform to enhance regulatory compliance, market access, and international outreach for Pakistani pharmaceutical products. The minister assured the association of the Ministry's commitment to resolve the issues faced by the exporters and announced the establishment of a dedicated Exporter Facilitation Desk in the Ministry to help the export industry with critical matters requiring urgent intervention of the Government.

After Pakistan downed Indian jets, Indonesia weighs purchase of China's J-10s
JAKARTA: Indonesia is weighing buying China's J-10 fighter jets, given their relatively cheaper price and advanced capability, as it also considers finalising a purchase of US-made F-15EX jets, a senior official said on Wednesday. Southeast Asia's most populous country has in recent years embarked on efforts to modernise its ageing military hardware. In 2022 it bought 42 French Rafale jets worth $8.1 billion, six of which will be delivered next year. A potential purchase has been considered for over a year, before the recent conflict between India and Pakistan, but Taufanto said Indonesia would factor in reports that a Pakistani J-10 plane shot down multiple Indian jets last month. 'We have had talks with China and they offered us a lot, not just J-10, but also ships, arms, frigates,' said Deputy Defence Minister and retired Air Marshal Donny Ermawan Taufanto. 'We're evaluating J-10,' Taufanto said, adding that Jakarta was reviewing system compatibility and after-sales support as well as pricing. A potential purchase has been considered for over a year, before the recent conflict between India and Pakistan, but Taufanto said Indonesia would factor in reports that a Pakistani J-10 plane shot down multiple Indian jets last month. French President Emmanuel Macron said after meeting Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta last week that they had signed a preliminary defence pact that could lead to new orders of French hardware including Rafale jets. 'We're considering (France's) offer. We're considering our own budget, we're evaluating, especially given we have other options like J-10, F-15,' Taufanto said.
