I tested three bonding treatments at all price points – one will leave your hair feeling better than ever
They are now firmly back on my radar. This week, I've put three to the test.
BUDGET
Palmer's amino bonding complex bonding hair gloss, £10.99 for 118ml, Boots
Having heard this is an Olaplex dupe, I had to try it for myself.
The liquid is much thinner than I expected and, although the spray makes it slightly easier to apply, the bottle needs to be upright to dispense which is a pain, especially when you have long hair.
It would be worth buying a cheap continuous mister and decanting it.
With four different types of oil – coconut, avocado, sunflower and jojoba, I found it made my hair greasy quicker than normal but I can't deny it added shine and made it easier to brush when wet.
MID-RANGE
Epres bond repair treatment, £46 for 30ml, epresbeauty.co.uk
I have to be honest, this is the product that changed my mind.
Paula applied it to my hair before rinsing it when she took out some of my foils before the rest, and the brush was going through my wet hair like butter (if you've got fine hair, you'll know how knotty it usually gets when it's wet and freshly bleached) so I wanted to know what shampoo and conditioner she'd use.
Turns out, she hadn't used any, only this clever spray.
It immediately conditions hair but is super-lightweight so doesn't leave any residue behind and the continuous mister makes it mess-free to apply.I've been using it weekly since and my hair feels better than ever.
I work at Superdrug and there's the viral hair products that are actually worth your money - including the £3 bargain buy that encourages hair growth
LUXURY
The application is slightly more long-winded than the Epres but I like that you apply it on towel-dried hair and can skip conditioner so it doesn't make my routine any longer.
It took a while to work out how much product to apply – 1.5 pumps is the sweet spot for me – which meant I had a few bad hair days where I had to wash sooner than usual to get rid of the texture.
It leaves hair instantly softer and mine feels stronger after a few weeks of use too.

Another happy customer, from London, confirmed its comfort in warm weather and its ability to turn heads: "I bought this a week ago and was really comfortable to wear especially in the hot weather and received a lot of compliments. 'Well worth the purchase and would buy other patterns if available." We previously reported on how Sainsbury's Tu Clothing captured the attention of fashion-savvy shoppers, this time with a stunning summer dress that's hit the sale rails at an irresistible £15. This particular piece from the much-loved in-house label, known for its stylish yet affordable offerings, is proving to be a must-have for the warmer months. The dress currently causing a stir is the White Structured Midaxi Summer Dress. Originally priced at £30, it's now half price in a flash sale, making it an absolute steal. This elegant white frock is designed to be versatile, easily dressed up for anything from a chic brunch with friends to sightseeing on a holiday escape. Its flattering silhouette is a key highlight, featuring a structured bodice that nips you in, flowing down to a flared hem. Sainsbury's describes it as an "elegant choice for summer outings," noting its midaxi length and construction from a "lightweight, cotton-rich fabric," perfect for staying cool when temperatures rise. Available in a broad range of sizes from 6 to 24, it has already become almost entirely sold out online. This means eager shoppers will need to make a swift trip to their nearest Sainsbury's store to try and get their hands on this much-coveted bargain before it's gone for good. Is supermarket fashion the new high street? DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in: The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family. Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a 'strong growth in clothing' and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street. Asda's clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury's clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past year. So what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful? Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it's good quality too - with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative. A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year. Plus because they buy so much stock they can turn around pieces quickly and buy for cheaper because of the volumes.

Fitness expert tackles 90th birthday swim challenge
I don't know about you but in my head, when I turn 90, I imagine leading a simple, quiet life. Less active, slower and more sedentary, Ken Heathcote, it's the complete opposite. In fact, he thinks absolutely nothing of swimming 90 lengths in his local pool with his grandson Sam, before taking on the equivalent distance in an open also played nine sets of tennis and lift 90,000 lb (40,823 kg) of weights in the gym in a single day. But why? And why the number 90?Because as Ken told me "it's just another day at the office".I spoke to him as part of BBC North West Tonight's 25 in 25 series - a chance to shine a spotlight on interesting people and places in our is a proud Boltonian and a well-known figure in the UK fitness industry. In the 1950s, he founded one of the country's first modern gyms, and played a key role in shaping the health and fitness movement. Deeply passionate about his Greater Manchester home town, he dedicated his career to promoting health and wellbeing in Bolton and something his good friend Lorraine Carey knows only too well. "I met Ken 35 years ago when I walked into Bolton Health Studio and I thought 'wow, there was nothing else like it'," she said, after joining him for the swim."I mithered them to give me a job and the day they did changed my life. "Ken's an inspiration to everyone. I love the man and to be here today doing the swims with him makes me feel so proud." 'I feel great' They were tackling the Not Out At 90 challenge, which encourages people to incorporate the number 90 into their exercise, such as walking for 90 minutes or doing 90 press-ups."The point of it is that I'm 90 and I'm still batting," Ken said."I'm still doing it. I'm still raising money for charities, which I've been doing for 50 years now and I still feel great. "I enjoy doing it, particularly when I finish it."It's also Ken's secret to continuing to thrive and staying young at heart."It's means you can share your life with your grandson," he said. "Is there anything better than that?"Ken and Sam hope to raise £90,000 for various charities, as well as promoting their message of the importance of staying fit at any age. The six biggest make-up mistakes that are making women over 50 look older, according to top beauty experts
Daily Mail journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more I have a big birthday looming – no, not that one, not quite yet - but the one that nudges me into my 50th year. And, somehow, this feels significant. Perhaps it's not that surprising - the Chinese Medicine practitioner Katie Brindle told me that, for women, the landmark birthday is not 50, but 49, because according to TCM we move through life in seven year cycles – and the start of the eighth marks the beginning of our 'second spring'. I'm not sure I'm quite ready for that yet, but when I look over pictures from the last year I can definitely see any wisdom I may have accumulated thus far in life showing up far more than it ever did before. I've never had Botox, fillers and the rest and I haven't yet decided if I will, but like most of us, I wouldn't mind slowing the progress of time on my face. And I know that make-up can work magic – if it's done well. So, I decided to ask the experts about the most ageing make-up mistakes they see women making – and their fixes. Read on to learn how to roll back the years with a flick of your mascara wand… NEVER OVER-POWDER Frances Prescott, Make-up artist and founder of Tri Balm and Maeva Rae A common mistake is to over powder. Don't! For a gorgeous dewy finish, use a hybrid product combining make-up and skincare ingredients, like Katherine Daniels Pure Pigment Foundation Drops (£42 / 20ml which has a supple texture that doesn't cake. Or look for tinted moisturisers instead. Pure Pigment Foundation Drops £42 / 20ml Shop GET CLEVER WITH CONCEALER Sascha Jackson, lead make-up artist Stila One of the most common ageing mistakes is using concealer that's too light and applying too much of it. The key is to choose a shade close to your foundation—no more than half a shade lighter. If you're dealing with dark circles, apply a peach-toned corrector first to neutralise purple tones, then follow with a small amount of concealer to brighten. Use a soft, fluffy brush to apply concealer gently—especially under the eyes, where too much product can settle into fine lines. Gabriella Elio, Make-up artist and founder of Sweed Beauty Women who are peri or menopausal, don't need to be afraid of blusher, but they (i)do(i) need to use it differently. Ignore the apples of your cheeks and apply to the top of your cheekbone instead, then blend down. Then put a flick of highlighter on top – you're focusing on lighting up your face at eye level. Blusher, like the Sweed Air Blush Cream (£28, used at the top of your cheeks replicates the fullness of lost fat pads. As we age, we all lose structure and fat – a swirl of blush creates the illusion of fullness, and youth! SOFTEN YOUR GO-TO SHADES Suzy Griffin Dunne, Make-up artist, founder of Hildun Beauty As we age, we need to reconsider not just the placement of make-up but also the textures of the products we are using. Generally, we need more hydration and creamier textures that are going to move with our faces instead of getting stuck in lines. Another important factor to consider when is that the colours we used to wear may be a little harsh, and we might need to soften those shades, perhaps changing our traditional black eyeliner to a brown. We have found this approach very popular with lots of our customers. In fact, we now have three shades in our ultra creamy brown eyeliner with a fourth launching later this year (£16, Award Winning Silk to Set Kajal Liner £16 Shop PLUMP UP LIPS LIKE A PRO Vincent Ford, Global Make-up artist When you apply your lip pencil or lipstick avoid taking the product all the way to the corners of the mouth. This pulls the mouth down and ages you. Instead only apply the lip colour to the centre of the lips and blend outwards, softly diffusing the colour. It will give the appearance of a fuller, more youthful mouth. Easy! OPEN EYES WITH A TOP LASHES TRICK Caroline Barnes, celebrity make-up artist Applying mascara to your top lashes only can really lift your eyes, especially if you use a mascara that dumps a lot of the product at the root of the lash because this creates a lovely invisible line that doesn't weigh the lid down. Try Elf Extender (£6.94, which has a really thin barrel that deposits the mascara very close to the lash, or Sweed mascara (£24, which deposits the mascara right to the roots of your lashes. Obviously you could open out your eyes by having mascara on the top and bottom lashes, but making it a little bit top heavy really does create a beautiful lift. Cosmetic Craving Eyeam Magnesium Butter, £25 for a 60g pot ( This brand is the brainchild of the Organic Pharmacy's Margo and her daughter Roxy, so I had high hopes – and I wasn't disappointed. After applying a good dollop to the soles of my feet I had a super deep sleep…Not surprising given that 5ML contains 200mg of magnesium. I felt so good afterwards that I've passed my pot on to a friend who has had trouble getting enough rest recently. I'll report back, but, at the very least, I know their feet will soon be sandal-ready. @katherine_spenley MAGNESIUM GLYMPHATIC SLEEPY BUTTER £25 Shop
