Mathew Gawiak, who beat cancer as a child, fell over after feeling dizzy at a King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard gig in Denver, Colorado, and was later pronounced dead
A music lover collapsed and died at his favourite band's concert on Friday.

Paramedics rushed through the crowd to tend to Mathew Gawiak after the 36-year-old man fell to the ground at a King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard gig in Denver, Colorado. His brother Christopher "watched his brother die right in front of him" as, despite the best efforts of medics, Mathew succumbed to his injuries.

The Australian band stopped their set around one hour into the concert to alert medical staff to the emergency. They had been livestreaming the concert on their YouTube page at the time, but the video has now been removed.

Paying tribute to his sibling, Christopher said: "Matt was a loving and beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was the love of my life and my best friend, he was the kindest most genuine person that I've ever met."
Christopher shared details of the tragedy on Reddit, revealing Mathew suddenly felt dizzy at the concert. King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, formed in 2010, have won awards for their live performances and their song Cyboogie briefly peaked at number two in the UK singles chart in 2019.
Mathew, described as "a diehard Gizzard fan", was part of a huge crowd at the Field of Vision Festival on Friday, where his beloved band were headlining. But Mathew quickly fell unwell, with Christopher recalling: "They had to call in an ambulance because they ran out. For all intents and purposes, I watched my brother die right in front of me and I was powerless to do anything about it.
"I find some peace knowing that he was surrounded by music and a community that was special to him and that he was truly happy in the moments before he tragically passed away."
More than $53,000 (£40,000) has so far been raised on a GoFundMe page for the scientist's family to cover funeral costs and support his memory. Christopher, whose brother beat cancer as a child, continued: "'His passions included playing guitar, camping, skiing, traveling, cooking, live music, and above all else, sharing those experiences with the people he loved... He got his Masters and had a fulfilling career as a geospatial scientist. His goal in life was to make the people he loved happy."
A joint statement from the band and the venue said: "Regarding the incident, we are deeply saddened to share that on Friday night, a guest passed away due to an unexpected medical event during the King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard concert at Meadow Creek despite the best efforts from emergency teams. We are sending our love and condolences to their family, friends, and the entire King Gizzard community."

Emmerdale star Lisa Riley 'in talks' to join I'm A Celebrity 2025 line up

Lisa Riley's name is being dropped into the mix as one of the possible contenders for this year's series of I'm A Celebrity. A soap star traditionally takes part in the show every year Emmerdale favourite Lisa Riley is being lined up to swap the Dales for the Australian jungle later this year, with reports suggesting she is in advanced talks to take part in the next series of I'm A Celebrity. ‌ Riley, 49, is best known for playing Mandy Dingle in the ITV soap, which is a role that she first took on in 1995. Over the last three decades she has been at the heart of some of Emmerdale 's most dramatic storylines and won the hearts of viewers. ‌ While she left the soap in 2001 to pursue other projects including Fat Friends, Waterloo Road, and Loose Women, she made a triumphant return to Emmerdale in 2019. ‌ Now, producers of I'm A Celebrity are said to be eyeing her up as one of the first names for the 2025 series. A TV insider told The Sun: "Lisa is the perfect celebrity for the show because not only is she from a soap watched by millions she's one of its biggest characters and it's an ITV show to boot. "She also has a naughty, mischievous sense of humour which is guaranteed to get a big response from her other celebrity campmates during their time in the jungle. Lisa is by no means the first star from Emmerdale to have gone on I'm a Celebrity and those that do always tend to get a great response from viewers at home." ‌ So far, eight Emmerdale stars have entered the jungle since the show launched in 2002, including Lucy Pargeter, Adam Thomas and Gemma Atkinson. Former cast member Danny Miller even went on to win the show in 2021. Riley herself has expressed an interest in taking part in the reality show for a while now. Earlier this year, she said: "I'm A something I would do before I turned 50 as a test for myself." However, she admitted to having some concerns over the more daunting trials, confessing that she could handle eating challenges but adding: "I could never ever do the mice and the rat box." ‌ Her potential signing would follow the tradition of soap stars taking part in the ITV jungle hit. Coronation Street actors have been regulars on the series alongside Emmerdale alumni. Antony Cotton competed in 2011, while Helen Flanagan became infamous in 2012 for being voted to face seven consecutive Bushtucker Trials. Most recently, Jennie McAlpine (Fiz Dobbs) entered the jungle in 2017. Speculation is also currently mounting that Corrie star Adam Hussain could join the 2025 line-up after quitting the cobbles earlier this year. The Mirror have contacted ITV for comment. Meanwhile, when it comes to life in the Dales, soap fans are worried that Riley's character Mandy Dingle might be in danger, as the actress recently posted a photo from the set of Emmerdale featuring a body double. One fan expressed their concerns on social media, writing: "Not good if there's a stunt woman, it means Mandy is in trouble."

Coronation Street Jack Webster's 'incredibly proud' news prompts co-star praise

Kyran Bowes was flooded with praise from his co-stars following some big news. Coronation Street star Kyran Bowes, who plays Jack Webster on the soap was praised by his co-stars after he shared some big news. The actor has grown up on the screen having joined the ITV show in 2016, taking over the role from twins Jaxon and Maddox Beswick. His on-screen birth was portrayed by twins Alex and Ellis Williamson. Fans of the soap will be aware that Jack is the teenage son of mechanic Kevin Webster and tragic Molly Dobbs, who died in the Weatherfield tram disaster. Jack has had an eventful young life on the cobbles, including a brush with death after battling sepsis which resulted in a life-saving surgery to have his leg amputated, reports Manchester Evening News. But away from his acting career, Kyran's latest social media update revealed his achievements off the screen. Taking to Instagram during A-Levels results day last week, the soap star shared: "The results are in…. "I am incredibly proud to say I received a Distinction Star, Distinction, Distinction in my Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development Course. "I have always enjoyed sports in my spare time, playing in football matches, refereeing at weekends for children's matches, helping out at sports clubs in the school holidays as well as my filming and I have worked really hard for this so I'm super proud of myself. "Thank you to my tutors, friends and family who have supported me all the way." And his Corrie pals were quick to show their love and support. Toyah Battersby actress Georgia Taylor said: "Oh well done, love!!" Vicky Myers, who plays DS Lisa Swain, replied: "Fantastic news! Congratulations." Leanne Battersby star Jane Danson wrote: "Congratulations darling! Fab news!" Joe Duttine, who stars as Tim Metcalfe, commented: "Well done Kyran." Sam Blakeman actor Jude Riordan posted: "Congrats Kyran." Amy Barlow star Elle Mulvaney added: "Well done Kyran!" Kyran later took to X (formerly known as Twitter), to thanks those who sent messages. He said: "Thank you so much to everybody that has sent me messages the last few days about my exam results! It means alot." In other Corrie news, an ex member of the beloved cast is to appear on the upcoming series of I'm A Celebrity. Adam Hussain, who plays Aadi Alahan, has been a fixture on the cobbles since his debut in 2006, alongside his twin sister Asha (Tanisha Gorey). Originally portrayed by Zennon Ditchett, Adam took over the role in 2020 - and it's safe to say Aadi's been embroiled in some serious drama. Recently the character inadvertently spiked Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) at a party. Fans have been bracing for Aadi's exit since April, when actor Adam Hussain announced his departure from the ITV soap. But he'll be reappearing on our screens far from the cobbles this autumn, in the Australian I'm A Celeb jungle. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
