Miss Universe 2017 Contestant Kseniya Alexandrova Dies After Deer Smashes Through Car Windshield
Kseniya Alexandrova, who represented Russia in Miss Universe 2017, died earlier this week in a freak car accident when a deer smashed through the windshield of her Porsche, according to several reports. She was aged 30 at the time of her death.
Kseniya was the first runner-up of Miss Russia 2017 and represented Russia at Miss Universe 2017. She suffered severe brain injuries when a big elk crashed into the windshield of her car while she and her husband were driving in Tver Oblast, Russia, on July 5, according to People magazine.
For the unversed, an elk is one specific species of deer, and is technically much larger than other deer species. They weigh approximately 320-500 kg, and they also have antlers that can be up to four feet long.
Kseniya was in the passenger seat of the Porsche Panamera. Kseniya suffered significant trauma that kept her in a coma until she died on Friday (August 15), although her husband managed to survive. 'From the moment it jumped out to the impact, a split second passed. I didn't have time to do anything," her husband told a Russian outlet.
'The Miss Universe Organisation extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and everyone whose life was touched by the light of Miss Universe Russia 2017, Kseniya Alexandrova," the Miss Universe said in a statement.
'Her grace, beauty, and spirit left an unforgettable mark on the Miss Universe family and beyond. May her memory continue to inspire kindness, strength, and love in all those who were fortunate enough to know her."
'Everything Was Covered In Blood'
The husband, Ilya, said the elk's leg hit her wife's head after going through the window of the sports car. 'The elk flew into the car. The blow hit Kseniya in the head. She was unconscious, her head was broken, and everything was covered in blood," he said.
What added to the tragedy was that the couple had married four months before the accident. Tributes started pouring in soon after Kseniya's death reports were made public.
Kseniya's modelling agency, Modus Vivendis, which she began working with at 19 years old, confirmed her death on social media. 'Kseniya was bright, talented and extraordinarily bright. She knew how to inspire, support and give warmth to everyone around her. For us, she will forever remain a symbol of beauty, kindness and inner strength," it said.
In addition to being a model, Kseniya also worked as a psychologist and television host. She earned a degree in finance and credit from Plekhanov Russian University of Economics in 2016. Later, in 2020, she graduated from the High School of Cinema and Television Ostankino. She earned a psychology degree from Moscow Pedagogical State University in 2022 and worked as a therapist.

Ukrainian soldier breaks world record of longest kill shot: Here's how
The gunman, who is unnamed, is believed to have killed two Russian soldiers four kilometres away – a new world record. The gunman is part of Ukraine's Pryvyd sniper platoon, also known as the 'Ghost' unit, which comprises eight sniper units from Ukraine's Ground Forces. But how did the gunman pull it off? It seems like something straight out of an action movie. An elite sniper landing a kill shot on two soldiers far away as a war rages. Except it really happened last week. The sniper is said to be part of an elite Ukrainian 'Ghost' unit. The incident is said to have occurred on Thursday (August 14) – the day before US President Donald Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin at a high-profile summit in Alaska. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD But what happened? How did the sniper break the record? Let's take a closer look What happened? The gunman, who is unnamed, is believed to have killed two Russian soldiers at a distance of four kilometres. The gunman is part of the Ukraine's Pryvyd sniper platoon, also known as the 'Ghost' unit. The 'Ghost' unit is made up of eight sniper units from Ukraine's Ground Forces. These elite units have killed over 1,000 Russian soldiers across Ukraine over the past year. The gunman used a 14.5 millimetre Alligator sniper rifle. This is the weapon typically used by snipers during the Ukraine war. The rifle is designed to take out military hardware. It has a range of around two kilometres. It has a muzzle velocity of between 3,215 and 3,281 feet per second. It is made by Kharkiv-based arms company XADO-Holding. The incident occurred in Pokrovsk, which is around 56 kilometres northwest of Donetsk. This, along with Luhansk, all of which Russia controls, is part of the Donbas region in Eastern Ukraine which Putin has demanded Zelenskyy hand over in exchange for a peace deal. Pokrovsk is a frontline city that was once home to 60,000 strong people. It sits atop large coking coal reserves. Until Russian forces moved closer, it was important to Ukraine's military supply lines in the country's east. Today, the city is all but ruined and a few hundred people remain. Russia is said to have deployed 110,000 soldiers to take the Donbas. How did the gunman do it? Dramatic visual show the bullet bursting through a glass window. The sniper and his spotter fire several rounds before hitting the target. The gunman was assisted by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and artificial intelligence (AI) – both of which have played a key role during the Ukrainian war. Serhii Filimonov, commander of a Ukrainian military battalion called 'Da Vinci Wolves,' which operates around Pokrovsk, has witnessed first-hand how Russia's glacial advance on the city over the past year cost it heavily in killed and injured soldiers in the first half of 2025. A serviceman of the 14th Assault Brigade Chervona Kalyna of the Ukrainian National Guard launches a Leleka reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for flying over positions of Russian troops, amid Russia's attack on Ukraine, near the frontline town of Pokrovsk in Donetsk region, Ukraine. Reuters Russian soldiers tried to advance by stealth but were hounded by Ukrainian soldiers flying small quadcopter drones mounted with cameras and explosives, he said. 'Every prisoner says drones are the thing they are most afraid of, the thing that constantly kills them, and the things they see when they sleep, the nightmares they have,' Filimonov said in April. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Incidentally, the previous record was also held by a Ukrainian sniper. Viacheslav Kovalskyi, 58, had had taken out a target from 3.77 kilometers away in 2023. Kovalskyi, a veteran sniper from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), used a domestic 'Lord of the Horizon' rifle to make the shot. Before that, a Canadian special operations held the world record. That shot, made in 2019, killed a soldier from 3.52 kilometres away. Another sniper is said to have taken out two Russian soldiers with a single bullet. 'Real-life experience has shown not only completely different requirements, but also the actual capabilities of Ukrainian weapons, which have far exceeded their creators' expectations,' Ukrainian outlet Defence Express noted. The Ukrainian resistance in and around Pokrovsk has blocked Russia's ambition of taking the remaining parts of Ukraine's Donetsk region, one of President Vladimir Putin's principal war aims. Although its significance to Ukraine as a military supply centre has already faded, Kyiv-based military analyst Serhii Kuzan said Pokrovsk's fall could free up Russian troops and open the door to more Russian advances in the region. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD More than a million Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded since the invasion of Ukraine in February, 2022, almost a quarter of those since the start of this year, according to British military intelligence estimates. Brigitte Macron Gender Uproar: Spies Watch Owens As Claims Explode
/ Aug 18, 2025, 05:59PM IST French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte have reportedly hired Manhattan-based investigative firm Nardello & Co to track Candace Owens as part of their defamation lawsuit. The couple is determined to counter Owens' claims that Brigitte was 'born male,' allegations she pushed on her podcast Becoming Brigitte. Investigators dug into Owens' political ties, finding links with far-right figures in France, the UK, and the US, as well as connections to Russian media. The Macrons' legal team argues the probes will help jurors understand Owens' motives, dismissing the rumors as 'far-fetched fictions.' Owens, meanwhile, has brushed off the lawsuit as an 'overreaction,' even as reports reveal her shifting political identity. The theory itself first surfaced in 2017 via a Spanish blogger and was later amplified by French writer Xavier Poussard.
