‘King of the Hill' voice actor fatally shot: Reports

The Hill02-06-2025
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (WJW) — Actor Jonathan Joss, best known for his voice work in the animated sitcom 'King of the Hill,' has died in an apparent shooting in Texas.
According to multiple reports, the 59-year-old was allegedly shot by a neighbor.
Nexstar's KTLA reports that police were called to the shooting in San Antonio, Texas, at about 7 p.m. Sunday and found Joss lying 'near the roadway.'
'The officers attempted life-saving measures until EMS arrived. EMS pronounced the victim deceased,' police said in a statement, as reported by KTLA.
KTLA reported that police later detained Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, 56, who is believed to live in the area, and charged him with murder.
TMZ was among the first outlets to report the death, citing sources who said a neighbor fired at Joss after a dispute, then fled the scene in his car. KTLA said law enforcement couldn't confirm whether Ceja and Joss were neighbors.
Joss' partner Tristan Kern de Gonzales offered more details on social media Monday afternoon, claiming that he and Joss had returned to the site of their home, which had burned down, to check the mail when they were attacked. De Gonzalez further alleged that the house caught fire after some of their neighbors made threats to burn it down, but neighbors who spoke with TMZ claimed Joss himself accidentally burned the home while attempting to use a BBQ pit to heat the residence.
'That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire,' de Gonzales claimed on Facebook. 'We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.'
He said he and Joss were 'harassed regularly' by people who 'made it clear' they did not support the couple's relationship. 'Much of the harassment was openly homophobic,' de Gonzales wrote.
At the home, he said in the post, the couple found the skull and harness of one of their dogs 'placed in clear view.'
'This caused both of us severe emotional distress,' de Gonzales wrote. 'We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw.'
De Gonzales claimed that's when they were approached by a man directing 'violent homophobic slurs' at them. He said the man fired a gun, and Joss pushed de Gonzales out of the way.
'He saved my life,' de Gonzales said of Joss.
'He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other,' de Gonzales wrote. He said neither he nor Joss was armed, adding, 'We were not threatening anyone.'
He said now he is focusing on 'protecting Jonathan's legacy and honoring the life we built together.'
Joss provided the voice of John Redcorn in 'King of the Hill.' According to Internet Movie Database, he was also known for his work in 'Abduction of the Fourth Kind' (2022), 'The Magnificent Seven' (2016) and 'The Forever Purge' (2021).

Cartoon characters on cartoon accents in ‘King of the Hill'

This new 'King of the Hill' features a few voices who weren't around for the show's original run on Fox from 1997 to 2009. Ronny Chieng now plays Kahn Souphanousinphone, previously voiced by Toby Huss, who also played Ted Wassanasong. Ted is now voiced by Kenneth Choi. Ted's son, Chane, is now played by Ki Hong Lee, replacing Advertisement In casting Asian actors to play Asian characters, the 'King of the Hill' team, including series creators Greg Daniels and Mike Judge, are acknowledging that things aren't the same as when the series first aired. The practice of using white actors to voice non-white characters — often using exaggerated accents — is now rightfully scorned. Alison Brie, star of the new body horror movie 'Together,' has expressed regrets about voicing a Vietnamese character on 'Bojack Horseman.' This isn't 'woke.' It's evolution and basic courtesy, much like the death of minstrelsy. Advertisement Emilio might see Speedy Gonzalez as a revolutionary, and Mel Blanc was definitely a talented guy. Brad Pitt's Mom Jane Etta Pitt Dead At 84

Brad Pitt's Mom Jane Etta Pitt Dead At 84 originally appeared on Parade. Brad Pitt is mourning the loss of his mother, Jane Etta Pitt, who has passed away at the age of 84. Sources close to the family confirmed to TMZ on Wednesday, August 6, that Jane died within the past couple of days. One of Jane's granddaughters, Sidney Pitt, also posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. 'My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier.,' Sidney began her caption. She elaborated on how her 'Grammy' taught her strength, how to paint, and kindness. She told childhood stories, and how her grandmother believed in 'doing good simply because it was the right thing to do.' Brad, 60, was said to be especially tight with his mother, often crediting her as the emotional cornerstone of their family. Jane worked as a family counselor and generally stayed out of the public eye, though she did attend several red carpets along with Brad's father, William Pitt, to support her son throughout his career. Jane shared a decades-long love story with her husband that began at Oklahoma Baptist University, where the two first met, according to PEOPLE. They tied the knot in 1962 and welcomed Brad soon after. The young family eventually moved from Oklahoma to Tulsa before settling in Springfield, Missouri — the city where Brad and his younger siblings, Doug and Julie, would grow up. In addition to her husband and three children, Jane also leaves behind 14 grandchildren. At this time, her cause of death is unknown. Sources Reveal If Britney Spears Is Actually Planning an MTV VMAs Performance

THE RUNDOWN Britney Spears won't be making an award show comeback performance anytime soon. After rumors circulated online that Spears would hit the stage at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, possibly bringing her son Jayden along, multiple sources told TMZ that there is no truth to the speculation. She was 'never approached by the award show to perform, was never on the performers' list, and there are no plans in motion behind the scenes,' the outlet wrote. Still, Spears's influence may well be felt at the ceremony. At last year's VMAs, artists like Megan Thee Stallion and Tate McRae were in Spears-inspired looks. Megan famously wore a python around her neck—a clear nod to Spears's iconic 2001 performance of 'I'm a Slave 4 U.' McRae, meanwhile, also paid homage to Spears's 2001 VMA appearance by wearing a sheer lace Roberto Cavalli dress nearly identical to Spears's red carpet outfit. Had Spears performed at the 2025 ceremony, it would have marked her first VMA appearance in nearly a decade. She last attended in 2016, when she took the stage alongside G-Eazy for their collaboration 'Make Me...,' from her ninth studio album, Glory. The MTV Video Music Awards will air on Sept. 7, 2025.
