Little Mix star Perrie Edwards reveals pain of two miscarriages

Former Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards has revealed for the first time she had two miscarriages, describing the most recent - at 24 weeks - as the "worst day of my life". The South Shields singer is best known as a member of the pop group which won The X Factor in 2011 and topped the charts with Black Magic, Shout Out To My Ex and Wings. Speaking on the We Need To Talk podcast with Paul C Brunson, 32-year-old Edwards said her first miscarriage before the birth of her son Axel in 2021, occurred very early in the pregnancy. Obviously, I started bleeding not long after, and I went to hospital and I had the scan and they were like, 'There's no baby.' "And I was like, 'Oh, I've made this up. Maybe I got a false positive or something'. "I remember being on my own at the appointments." She went on to describe Axel – her son with fiance Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, a former England footballer – as her "rainbow baby", a term for a child born after pregnancy loss. Less than a year after Axel's birth, Edwards became pregnant again. Leighanne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards took part in Little Mix's last tour in 2022. Credit: PA "I was rehearsing for the last Little Mix tour, and I thought, 'I don't feel good'. Every symptom under the sun. I was like, 'I think I'm pregnant,'" she said. But by 24 weeks, after Edwards had started planning the baby's nursery, doctors told the couple the baby had no heartbeat, in what the singer said was the "worst day of my life". She said: "It's weird, because the first time it happened, I think because it was so early, I was like, 'Oh, that's hard'. "But I think when you're 24 weeks and you've planned out their room and all these things, it's really hard. And nobody knows other than immediate friends and family." Edwards has been with former Liverpool and Arsenal midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain since 2017 and they became engaged in 2022, the same year Little Mix went on hiatus and around the time Edwards suffered her second miscarriage. The group also included South Shields' Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson. Want a quick and expert briefing on the biggest news stories? Wimbledon champion tells cameraman to stop filming her as she removes clothes on court Iga Swiatek was involved in a brief altercation at the end of the opening set during her semi-final clash with Elena Rybakina at the Cincinnati Open, as she demanded a cameraman stopped filming her Iga Swiatek was in fine form on Saturday (Image: Robert Prange, Getty Images) Iga Swiatek requested a camera operator to cease filming her during her Cincinnati Open semi-final match against Elena Rybakina. ‌ The Polish tennis ace went on to secure a comfortable victory in a contest lasting over an hour and 38 minutes, securing her place in the final against Jasmine Paolini. Swiatek had to dig deep in the opening set, clinching a 7-5 win to take a significant step towards the final. ‌ The 24-year-old then sealed the match with a 6-3 victory in the second set on her way to the final. ‌ Swiatek maintained her composure throughout the match, even when asking a camera operator to stop filming at the end of the first set. The camera followed this year's Wimbledon champion to her bench to capture her reactions after the gruelling set. However, after exhaling a sigh of relief and removing her cap, Swiatek then gestured to the operator and waved her hand down the lens to signal that she no longer wished to be filmed as she was about to change. The shot ended while Swiatek prepared to change her top, as most players do between sets to stay comfortable, reports the Express. Following her victory, Swiatek said: "At the beginning, the level was pretty crazy. ‌ "We played so fast that sometimes we couldn't run to the second ball. I was there to play with intensity and good quality. "I'm super happy with the performance. Anyone in the final is going to be super tough, so I have to think tactically. Iga Swiatek was crowned Wimbledon champion earlier this summer (Image: Getty) ‌ "I will focus on myself and do what I've been doing, because for sure I feel like there's been progress at this tournament. I just want to continue that, no matter what the result is. "I feel the love here, it's a great place to be. People of Cincinnati are so nice, everywhere we go, even though we're here to play, we feel like we can have peace and just relax when off the court. "So thank you guys for coming out, rooting for us and see you tomorrow."
