How do you hook it? Women are debating the proper way to put on a bra: ‘The fact that people do this is blowing my mind'

New York Post20-05-2025

Turns out, getting dressed can be a full-contact sport — at least when it comes to putting on a bra.
A boob-tiful debate has ignited after 'Real Housewives of Potomac' star Gizelle Bryant and her podcast co-host Robyn Dixon revealed on an episode of their podcast, 'Reasonably Shady,' their vastly different bra-hooking techniques — erupting a battle of the back-claspers vs. the front-fasteners.
'(Some people) latch it in the front, and then they swing it around, and then they put their arms in,' Bryant said.

'That's how I do it,' Dixon admitted.
Cue the chaos.
Jenna Bush Hager and sportscaster Erin Andrews weighed in during a recent episode of 'Jenna & Friends,' siding with team back hook.

'We don't put our bra on like that, though. We put it on in the back,' said Bush Hager. 'I've never done it on the front unless it's a front clasp.'
3 Putting on a bra is an act that women will always wonder if they're doing correctly.

'I'm double-jointed. I can do it. I just can't do the strap,' Andrews added.
'I ask [my husband], 'Honey, you're going to have to tighten this bad boy. Tighten it tighter,'' Bush Hager added.

Turns out this is a long-standing debate — and not every technique involves twisting, hooking or sweating it out.
There are multiple Reddit threads of women asking each other how to properly put on the required wardrobe item.
3 Turns out this age-old debate has been bouncing around for decades — and not every bra-putting method involves twisting, contorting or working up a sweat.

'It partly depends on how broad your shoulders are and how your mobility is. I could never get a correct-sized bra over my head like that, but I know people who can. And not for nothing but repeatedly stretching the band out to put it on that way will definitely wear it out faster,' one person explained on Reddit.

'The proper way is to put your arms through the straps and put it on, then reach behind you and do up the clips,' chimed in someone else on the same thread.
Even people on TikTok are trying to differentiate between the right and wrong way.
'The fact that people do this is blowing my mind,' a commenter wrote on a TikTok video that discussed the supposed right way.
'This is how I've always done it. the twist method is uncomfortable for me so I'm not sure how else to do it?' another comment read.
But Gen Z is the generation trying to reshape the bra narrative.
And they're not just rethinking how to put it on — they're questioning why it needs wires at all.
Generation Z isn't burning their bras, but they're happy to send underwire packing.

TikTok creators are going gaga for wire-free options, racking up millions of views — and tossing their pokey push-ups in the bin.
3 Gen Z may not be burning their bras, but they're ditching the underwire fast. TikTokkers are racking up millions of views flaunting their wire-free wins — and chucking their pokey push-ups without a second thought.

Melbourne's Stephanie Jade Lewis told news.com.au that ditching wires was a game-changer. 'I don't even know I'm wearing anything… Now, it's not even a thought,' she said.
Orly Jacobson jumped on the wire-free bandwagon too. 'After my breast reduction, I was so sick of wearing painful, wired bras… Seeing a lot of women my age wearing playful and versatile bralettes made me want to jump on the bandwagon.'

And Gen Z is putting its money where its mesh is.
'We have seen a significant consumer trend among Gen Z women, who are ditching traditional wired bras in favour of wire-free options,' De Winter said.
Whether you hook, twist, tug or step in — one thing's for sure: the bra wars are far from over.

Husband Couldn't Taste Their 'Gender Reveal' Milkshake. But His Wife's Reaction Said It All (Exclusive)

Sarah Smith and her husband Eli found out they were expecting their first child on Jan. 7 As the weeks passed, preparations for the sex reveal began Sarah, 28, started searching online for low-key reveal ideas. One in particular caught her eye: using milkshakesWhen Sarah Smith and her husband Eli found out they were expecting their first child on Jan. 7, the upstate New York-based couple — along with their families — were over the moon. As the weeks passed, preparations for the sex reveal began. Sarah, 28, started searching online for low-key reveal ideas. One in particular caught her eye: using milkshakes. The moment she saw it, she recalls thinking, 'This is it.' 'We've always tried to keep big moments between just the two of us, at least at first,' Sarah tells PEOPLE exclusively. 'It just felt more playful and different.' The reveal happened during a ski trip with friends in Bozeman, Mont. — a place that already holds deep meaning for the couple. It's where they honeymooned, and where they were legally married by proxy while Eli, 30, was stationed overseas. For the reveal, they went to a local spot in Bozeman called Burger Bob's. Once there, they explained the situation to their waitress, Brittney. The instructions were simple: strawberry for a girl, peanut butter for a boy. One shake, two straws, lots of whipped cream. Sarah handed Brittney a sealed envelope with the results from their blood test. 'She was totally into it and really made it special,' Sarah says. Not long after, Brittney returned with the milkshake. After one sip, Sarah tasted strawberry and recalls feeling overwhelmed, in the best way. But for Eli, the moment played out a little differently. 'I tend to hold stuff in when I'm processing big emotions, and in that moment, I had like a million things going on in my head, my straw wasn't working, I was trying to read her reaction, I wasn't even sure if I'd tasted anything yet,' he tells PEOPLE. 'But what really stopped me was her face. I've seen her happy plenty of times, but this was different. It was raw joy,' he adds. 'And knowing she's had some nerves about pregnancy and everything that comes with it … to see all that melt away and just be replaced by that much happiness, it was so sweet to see. I'll never forget it.' Sarah filmed the moment mostly to capture the memory for the pair and to share with family. She hadn't planned to post it publicly, but after sending it around to a few people, she uploaded it to TikTok, where she usually saves sweet memories. Then the video went viral, amassing more than 8.1 million views and 2,400 comments. 'It was wild,' Sarah says. 'I posted it and then just … walked away from my phone. When I came back, it had all these views and comments, and it just kept going. We hadn't even told all our friends we were expecting yet, so suddenly we were like, 'Okay, time to make some calls before people find out from TikTok.' Friends, coworkers, even people we hadn't talked to in years were texting like, 'Wait, is this you?!' ' 'Honestly, it's been really positive,' she adds. 'People seem to love the idea. A few comments were funny or even a little snarky, but nothing that bothered us. We just laugh about it. Some people are convinced Eli looks disappointed, which … he wasn't. But it's kind of hilarious to see the interpretations.' Now 25 weeks along, Sarah says that while the first trimester was tough, she's been enjoying the rest of the pregnancy. She's staying active, and everything just feels more meaningful. 'Every kick, every ultrasound, it gets me emotional every time," Sarah says. "I love setting up her room, shopping for baby clothes, all of it.' 'No way I could've waited until the birth — I really wanted to know," she adds of the baby's sex. "I was hoping for a girl, so finding out early felt important to me.' The couple already has a name picked out but plans to keep it private for now. But when it came to sharing the sex with the world, Sarah says she's glad they did. 'In a world where everything feels like it has to be shared or staged for an audience, this was a reminder that intimacy and authenticity still matter," the mom-to-be says. "It doesn't have to be perfect or go viral to be special. What made that milkshake moment unforgettable wasn't the setup, it was the emotion behind it." "The joy, the nervousness, the genuine surprise. We weren't acting for anyone," she adds. "We were just fully present with each other, and I think people could feel that." Who Is Wendy Ortiz? Why Fans Are Begging Kylie Jenner to Collab with Her

Kylie Jenner's comment sections can be a dark and divisive space. It's where you'll find debates about what work she's gotten done, droves of naysayers policing her mothering style, and maybe even some calls to eat the rich. But as of late, on Kylie's TikTok, you'll also find a pretty unified front. A baffling one at that. Because it's where thousands of users are asking, nay, begging, for Kylie to recognize someone by the name of Wendy Ortiz. The requests take the shape of anything from "WENDY ORTIZ COLLAB QUEEN" to the slightly less aggressive "Wendy Ortiz X Kylie Jenner collab Would EAT." The tireless calls are being made on Kylie's GRWM videos, her thirst traps, and even her well-intentioned promos for new Kylie Cosmetics foundation brushes. The Wendy Ortiz hive will not let Kylie rest. If the legion of shooters she's got littered in Kylie's comments weren't already an indication, let it be known that Wendy is no random. In short, she's 21 years old, a Scorpio, and has over 3.7 million followers on TikTok. She originally came to slight fame in 2018 through the YouTube channel she shared with her twin sister, called Evelyn and Wendolyn, but her solo TikTok blew up in 2023. It's where she posts everything from dance videos to comedy skits to clips of her 2-year-old daughter, Valentina (Wendy had her in 2023 with her on-again, off-again partner, Carlos). But recently, Valentina has set her sights on a whole other platform, Twitch. Her following on there is a bit smaller (678k), but she was one of the more popular students at Kai Cenat's recent Streamer University project, and since then has hosted a Streamer University recap livestream and some Q&As on Twitch. The Kylie Jenner of it all began when, during one of her streams, Wendy decided to shoot her shot and vocalize that her dream collab would be with the makeup mogul. Now, to be clear, by "collab," Wendy doesn't mean join forces on a cosmetic product or campaign, but instead just having Kylie join her on one of her streams. A harmless ask! But Wendy's fans, the "Winions" (a stan name deserving of a trademark), heard this dream and decided it was their mission to make it a reality. Hence their intense presence in the comments of everything Kylie posts, which some have understandably grown a little tired of. "Leave this woman alone…. she's not collabing with a tiktoker," wrote one worn down Kylie follower. "When you say collab, what are you guys referring to just sitting in front of a camera together? lol" asks another. (A genuinely valid question.) Now according to some eagle-eyed Winions (I'm obsessed with this stan name and intend to say it as much as possible) their calls might posisbly have been heard. Earlier this week on a stream, Wendy was left astonished by a text she'd received, which the Winons took to mean that Wendy had finally received contact from Kylie herself. Now, any word from Kylie herself about the phenomenon is yet to come. But I can't imagine she can keep posting business as usual for very long. The Winions have shown no sign of letting up.

The TikTok dance and irony at heart of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka's rivalry

The match-up the French Open had been waiting for came before the tournament began: Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, the two rivals who have grappled over the World No 1 position for the past three years, met on the practice courts at Roland Garros and played a set. Two weeks later, they will meet again in the semi-finals, a blockbuster booked between the defending champion Swiatek and the biggest contender for her throne, the top seed Sabalenka. With eight grand slam titles between them, it will be the first time they have met at this level since the 2022 US Open. Swiatek, who has five of those grand slam titles to Sabalenka's three, kept her cards close to her chest when discussing their practice session on the eve of Roland Garros. Sabalenka was more revealing as she opened up on their relationship and how it had become warmer since collaborating on a TikTok at last year's WTA Finals in Riyadh. It had been icy. 'Before it wasn't any communication, any practices with her,' Sabalenka said. 'But now we are getting better, we get along better, and we practice more often. We know each other quite well.' Advertisement The timing of the TikTok in question, which saw Sabalenka and Swiatek dance on court before cutting to a behind-the scenes shot of the glamourous WTA Finals photoshoot, came when Sabalenka was in the ascendency. She had added the US Open to her two Australian Open titles and reclaimed the No 1 ranking from Swiatek. 'We've had a lot of great battles in the past,' Sabalenka said. The majority have come when Swiatek has been on top and Sabalenka has been chasing. Sabalenka defeated Swiatek in straight sets in their last meeting in Cincinnati (Getty Images) Swiatek has tended to win them, too. The 24-year-old is the only player in the world's top 10 to boast a winning record against Sabalenka, defeating the Belarusian in eight of their 12 meetings. That includes their classic Madrid Open final in 2024, a three-hour, 11-minute epic on the clay won by Swiatek 7-5 4-6 7-6 (7) - in a contest that was later named the WTA's match of the year. Swiatek consolidated that victory with another win over Sabalenka in the Rome final before winning her third straight Roland Garros title, her supremacy on clay undisputed. It has felt different in 2025, given the doubts over Swiatek's form coming into Roland Garros. Swiatek has not won a title or reached a final since last year's French Open and, in her absence, Sabalenka marched back to Madrid and reclaimed the title by defeating Coco Gauff in the final. The 27-year-old is well positioned to contend for Roland Garros and the mental transformation Sabalenka underwent to win her first grand slam title in Australia in 2023 came after Swiatek's win over her in the US Open semi-finals. She is a different player now. (Getty Images) Sabalenka can overpower and dominate the rest of the field to the extent that her consistency and reliability across all surfaces is underappreciated. This year's French Open has been a typical tournament for the new Sabalenka, reaching the quarter-finals without dropping a set. Her victory over Zheng marked her 10th consecutive grand slam in which she has reached the quarter-finals, discounting the Wimbledon missed last summer due to injury. 'They are crazy stats,' Sabalenka said. They are becoming normal. Advertisement As is Swiatek's record in Paris, with the Pole extending her winning streak at Roland Garros to 26 wins in a row after overcoming Elina Svitolina in the quarter-finals. Chris Evert's record of 29 straight wins is in sight. More and more, it seems as if the defining result of Swiatek's week may be her comeback against Elena Rybakina in the fourth round, winning in three and after being a set and a break down early in the second. 'I think I needed that kind of win,' she said at the time. Swiatek found how to win when it wasn't going her way. The four-time French Open champion will need that spirit when he faces Sabalenka, given her tendency to start quickly and establish control in the match by attacking any second serves. It's rare for Swiatek to have a target when she takes to Philippe-Chatrier, given her record there, but playing the World No 1 gives her one. 'I don't know if she elevates my game but for sure our rivalry is pushing both of us,' Swiatek said. 'It's not only about the level of tennis. It's about everything, how we work, and how professional we are.' (Getty Images) And this is a semi-final that can elevate the French Open, too. The controversy over unequal scheduling between men's and women's tournaments has continued this year, with organisers doubling down on their decision to schedule men's matches in the primetime slot, leaving the women with the earlier starts. On Wednesday, Sabalenka faced Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng in a high-quality quarter-final that started at 11am and in front of thousands of empty seats. Advertisement 'I definitely agree that we deserve to be put in a bigger stage,' Sabalenka said when pushed on the inequality of the scheduling. 'Better timing, more people watching.' There will perhaps be an irony to the fact that the French Open gets to stage the rivalry that the rest of the grand slams have been waiting years to see.
