Over 4.1 million gather at Grand Mosque on 29th night of Ramadan

MAKKAH — The Grand Mosque in Makkah welcomed more than 4.1 million worshippers and Umrah pilgrims on the 29th night of Ramadan — one of the most spiritually significant nights of the holy month, during which the Qur'an completion (Khatm Al-Qur'an) prayers were held.
According to Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, the night saw over 3.4 million worshippers gather for Isha and Taraweeh prayers, while more than 646,600 performed Umrah.
In addition, around 28,200 people benefited from mobility carts, 135,600 used location guidance services, and more than 42,000 bottles of Zamzam water and 702,000 iftar meals were distributed.
Worshippers began arriving early in the morning, filling every corridor, courtyard, and level of the Grand Mosque, including the Mataf area around the Kaaba.
With calm and devotion, pilgrims and worshippers performed their rituals in a spiritual atmosphere filled with reverence and serenity, hoping to witness the blessed night of Laylat Al-Qadr.These smooth operations were made possible thanks to the services and projects implemented under the supervision of the Kingdom's leadership, which ensured that worshippers could perform their rituals safely and comfortably.The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque mobilized all its resources and personnel in coordination with relevant authorities. Measures were taken to guide crowds into designated prayer areas and manage the flow of worshippers, including elderly individuals and those with disabilities.To support visitors, the authority provided categorized directional signs, enhanced cleanliness and sterilization, and equipped restrooms with all essential services. More than 33,000 prayer carpets were laid out, and multiple Zamzam distribution points were established with both chilled and unchilled options available around the clock.Additionally, the door systems were optimized to ease entry and exit, with special entrances designated for elderly and disabled worshippers. Emergency response teams were also stationed to handle any reported issues promptly.

Al-Wabel said that the operations include the operation of seven complexes, ensuring the provision of high-quality services to the guests of God. He noted the readiness of 25,000 human cadres in various administrative, technical, medical, and engineering specialties, working within a precise and coordinated system to ensure smooth operations, while ensuring the pilgrims' comfort and implementing the best environmental practices. According to Al-Wabel, the project will continue throughout the Days of Tashreeq, in coordination with the relevant authorities, to ensure the timely completion of sacrifices and their proper distribution to eligible recipients. This effort reflects the principle of social solidarity and aims to ensure distributions are conducted efficiently. He noted that the project operates through an integrated system designed to ensure smooth procedures and swift execution, enhancing pilgrims' satisfaction and facilitating the performance of their rituals.

Makkah Deputy Emir hands over Kaaba's new Kiswa to Senior Keeper Al-Shaibi
Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — On behalf of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Deputy Emir of Makkah Region and Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Hajj and Umrah Prince Saud bin Mishaal handed over the Holy Kaaba's new cover (Kiswa) to Abdul Malik bin Taha Al-Shaibi, the senior keeper of the Grand Mosque. The handover of the Kaaba Kiswa, the black cloth covering the Kaaba, is a significant annual tradition in Islam, marking the start of the new Islamic year and preceding the Hajj season. The Kiswa handover ceremony is a demonstration of the leadership's care and attention to the Kaaba, Islam's holiest shrine. The handover documents were signed by Minister of Hajj and Umrah and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, and Senior Keeper of the Grand Mosque Abdul Malik bin Taha Al-Shaibi. The handover ceremony marks the upcoming replacement of the Holy Kaaba's Kiswa on the first day of Muharram 1447 AH. The new Kiswa was produced by the King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa using natural black-dyed silk, embroidered in gold and silver threads. The covering stands 14 meters high and features, in its upper third, a belt that is 95 centimeters wide and 47 meters long, composed of 16 pieces framed by Islamic decorative patterns. It is made up of five pieces of cloth, including the curtain that covers the Kaaba door, sewed together. The handover ceremony is part of the preparations and procedures for replacing the Holy Kaaba's Kiswa in the beginning of the year 1447 AH, reflecting the leadership's care and attention to every stage from production to completion of the replacement.

This surpasses last year's hourly average of 18,000, marking a new record since the project's inception. This success is attributed to an integrated operational model led by the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites. The new model features proactive planning, institutional integration, and digital transformation. Seven complexes spanning over a million square meters are now equipped to handle more than 1.1 million rituals during Eid, adhering to strict health and environmental standards.
