This is our best team outside the rested five players, says Shukri Conrad

Proteas coach Shukri Conrad has rested five key players for the upcoming Test tour to Zimbabwe later this month, where South Africa will play two-match Tests at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The players are fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen, batters Ryan Rickelton, Aiden Markram and Tristan Stubbs, who have been juggling all formats of international cricket and the various T20 leagues around the world.
The idea is to rest the key players so that they can return fresh for the new cycle, a cycle which includes Test tours to India and Pakistan, two subcontinent countries which are difficult to tour.
Conrad believes that the selected players are the next best for the Test side outside the five rested all-format players.
"We've rested five of our cross-format players because of a heavy workload post the Zim series, and this will be the next best group of players that could potentially play for South Africa in Test cricket.
"So, where does it fit in? We still got to put our best teams, and outside of the five guys that are being rested, I believe that this is the next best 15 or 16, so to speak," Conrad told the media on Friday.
"But it is a great opportunity where we keep one eye on possibly Pakistan and India, where we're probably going to have to play two or three spinners. So it'll be a great opportunity for Prenelan Subrayen to play both Test matches with Kesh, with a view to the upcoming series later.
"And then also have a look at how some of the younger bucks go. Matthew Breetzke had one go at it in Bangladesh, left a straight one. He's been our reserve batter, so he's the next man up again.
"We're obviously looking to win the series in Zimbabwe, but like we do everything else, and we've got to show them the necessary respect and Test cricket the necessary respect by selecting what we believe are our best teams. So as I mentioned, outside of the guys rested, this is our best team."
Titans top-order batter, Lesego Senokwane, has received a maiden Test call-up following being a top performer in domestic cricket for several years.
Youngster Lhuan-dre Pretorius and fast bowler Codi Yusuf also received their maiden call-ups, while uncapped players Dewald Brevis and Prenalan Subrayen are also included in the squad.
Conrad told the media that he has known Senokwane for a long time and that his performances in the CSA Four-Day competition have warranted his selection.
"I've known Lesego (Senokwane) for a few years now as well. His form took a slight dip, but that's pretty natural. But if you look at his form in the last two years in First-Class cricket, right up here, it's always nice to be able to have young opening bats," said Conrad.
"So, as much as you want to build your reserves in the bowling department, you also want to build your reserves in the batting department. So, someone like Lesego has done particularly well, plays the short ball really well. And yeah, he's been a real journeyman in our first-class game, and his performances definitely warrant his selection.
"And again, it's a great opportunity. We've included a bit more experienced guy in Zubay Hamza as well. So, there'll be enough experience to guide some of these younger bucks along as well."

Roodies host braai-send off for Comrades athletes
The Roodepoort Athletics Club hosted a motivational send-off braai for its members who will be participating in the 98th edition of the prestigious Comrades Marathon this past weekend. The iconic ultra-marathon, set to take place on Sunday, June 8, will see 40 of the club's runners take to the streets from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. The braai took place on Saturday, May 31, and saw family, friends, club members and supporters alike come out in numbers to support these runners. According to Conrad de Buys, the chairperson of the club, this year they have 10 first-time runners, two members tackling their 10th, and one veteran runner who will be marking their 30th Comrades. 'We wish all our athletes the very best for the Comrades Marathon. Our road coach, Judge Mongale, has guided them through a rigorous training programme, with early morning and late evening sessions throughout the year. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each athlete for their hard work and dedication, as well as to the committee for their unwavering support behind the scenes,' said Conrad. Additionally, the runners will be wearing blue awareness ribbons to raise awareness about cerebral damage and also to support Eben Beukes, whose life took a devastating turn when he contracted Covid-19. Eben and his father, Hendrik Beukes, are closely related to one member of the club, Hannetjie Venter. Practically overnight, this vibrant, loving child became completely dependent on full-time care. He now requires 24-hour palliative support, including nursing care, feeding assistance, medical equipment and basic necessities like diapers and hygiene products,' said Hannetjie. The day was more than just a social gathering; it was filled with lovely messages and words of encouragement from those who have walked this path before, and it also commemorated true friendships and camaraderie. Five uncapped players in Proteas Test squad to face Zimbabwe
Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Lesego Senokwane, Codi Yusuf, Dewald Brevis and Prenelan Subrayen will all be hoping to make their Test debuts in Bulawayo. Teenager Lhuan-dre Pretorius in action for the Titans during a domestic match. Picture: Sydney Seshibedi/Gallo Images A total of five uncapped players have been included in the 16-man Proteas squad for a two-match Test series against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo starting later this month. Among the new faces are Titans batting duo Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Lesego Senokwane, both of whom have received their maiden call-ups to the national setup. They are joined in the squad by another first-timer, Lions fast bowler Codi Yusuf. At just 19, Pretorius enjoyed a breakout season in the CSA 4-Day Series. He struck three hundreds in five first-class games at an impressive average of 72.66, including a crucial 114 in the final that helped secure a hard-fought draw for the Titans against the Lions. Senokwane also impressed with the bat, amassing 559 runs with two centuries to his name. Both players also recently made their South Africa A debuts against West Indies A. Yusuf, meanwhile, has been a standout performer for the Lions. The right-arm seamer claimed 23 wickets at an average of 22.39, playing a pivotal role in guiding his side to a second successive appearance in the 4-Day Series final. Players rewarded for domestic form The other uncapped players in the squad are Titans batter Dewald Brevis, the second-highest run-scorer in the domestic first-class competition this past season, and Dolphins off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen, though both have previously toured with the senior side. Earlier this week, Subrayen's form was on full display in SA 'A's four-day win over West Indies A, where he delivered with both bat and ball, scoring an unbeaten half-century and picking up five wickets in the West Indies team's second innings. The squad also sees the recall of Lions batter Zubayr Hamza, marking his return since his last appearance against New Zealand in February last year. Senior players rested Several players – Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs – have been rested for the series. Fast bowling trio Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee and Lizaad Williams, who have had recent injury struggles, were not considered for selection. In their absence, coach Shukri Conrad was pleased to be able to give opportunities to some younger players. 'This tour provides the ideal platform to expose them to the demands of Test cricket and see how they respond,' Conrad said. 'It's also our first tour to Zimbabwe since 2014, so we're really looking forward to heading over there later this month.'
