Notre Dame will host top Illinois QB recruit Jameson Purcell at Irish Invasion camp June 6
One of the top quarterbacks in Illinois is set to visit South Bend for Notre Dame football's Irish Invasion prospect camp June 6.
Maine South (Park Ridge, IL) three-star recruit Jameson Purcell announced Thursday his plans to return to campus for the showcase event. The 6-foot-2, 181-pounder is also set to perform in camps at Clemson, Florida, Auburn, Florida State and Ohio State this summer.

The Class of 2027 recruit is the No. 21 quarterback and No. 293 overall recruit nationally according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. His visit to South Bend will be his third. The Irish have not yet offered a quarterback recruit for the 2027 class. Noah Grubbs is currently in the fold for 2026. Blake Hebert was brought in during this year's cycle.
The Irish Invasion prospect camp has been an important recruiting tool for Marcus Freeman and his staff during his tenure as they will look to find players who fit the Notre Dame mold once again.

Trailer for 'College Football 26' released, with game to include real-life coaches
After a successful first relaunch in 2024, the newest installation of EA Sports' "College Football" video game series will be back in full force this summer with some tweaks and changes. The trailer for "College Football 26" was released on Thursday, displaying some of the changes EA Sports made to the game following "College Football 25." Arguably, the biggest change in the game is that real coaches will be involved for the first time ever in the series. Over 300 current college football coaches, including assistants, lent their likeness for EA Sports to use in "College Football 26," according to a release. The release didn't share all of the coaches who agreed to be a part of "College Football 26." However, Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman, Ohio State's Ryan Day and Texas' Steve Sarkisian were seen in the trailer, while Penn State's James Franklin, Oregon's Dan Lanning and Georgia's Kirby Smart were among those named in the release. For the second straight year, thousands of players have agreed to lend their likeness for the "College Football" video game series. There will be over 2,800 new plays and "unique schemes" added to "College Football 26" from last year's game. The Wear and Tear feature also underwent changes, allowing users to "manage fatigue strategically and save your favorite playmakers for key moments with Dynamic Substitutions that allow you to rotate players in and out on the fly." In terms of game atmosphere, EA Sports also enhanced the Stadium Pulse feature for "College Football 26." In the newest edition of the game, there will be a more intense camera shake, new heads-up display visuals and a clock distortion that will force users to the high pressure of playing on the road at a hostile environment. Rivalry games, the College Football Playoff and high-stakes matchups will also be more impacted by Stadium Pulse. Other game features include the return of the Trophy Room (which shows all the trophies and accomplishments a user has won while playing the game) and Cross-Play across Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 in Dynasty Mode. Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams were named as the cover athletes for the standard version of "College Football 26" on Tuesday. The deluxe version of the video game includes a few more star players (such as Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik and LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier), coaches (such as Day and Smart), legends (Reggie Bush, Tim Tebow, Denard Robinson) and mascots, along with Smith and Williams. "College Football 26" will be available for purchase on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on July 10. The game can also be preordered now through the EA Sports MVP bundle, which includes the deluxe versions of "College Football 26" and "Madden 26," granting three-day early access to both games. Clemson falls to Kentucky 16-4 in regional round to end season 45-18
CLEMSON, S.C. (Clemson SID) – Kentucky scored five runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth inning in its 16-4 victory over No. 11 Clemson in the Clemson Regional at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats improved to 31-25, while the Tigers' season ended with a 45-18 record. In the top of the first inning, Dominic Listi lined a single to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, then Jarren Purify scored on a wild pitch. Collin Priest's RBI groundout doubled the Tiger lead in the first inning. Kentucky responded with two two-out runs in the bottom of the first inning on Carson Hansen's single and error on the play. The Wildcats took a 7-2 lead in the third inning with five runs on two singles, then Clemson responded with a run in the top of the fourth inning on a two-out wild pitch. Kentucky answered with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, a run in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning. Cam Cannarella extended his hitting streak to 22 games with a single in the seventh inning, then Dominic Listi was hit-by-pitch, his 30th of the season to set an ACC record. Cannarella scored in the frame on a double play. Kentucky starter Nate Harris (5-2) earned the win, as he allowed six hits, three runs and four walks with seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched. Man dead and girl injured following shooting incident at Carlow shopping centre
A man has died following a shooting incident at a shopping centre in Co Carlow. The PA news agency understands that it appears that the dead man's wounds were self-inflicted. A young girl was also injured in the incident but did not require hospital care. Gardai have identified the dead man as a white Irish male. Ireland's Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan has described it as a 'really shocking incident'. One local councillor told how people ran terrified from the shopping centre in Carlow town as shots were fired. The body of the man remains at the scene and will not be removed until the area has been declared safe. The shopping centre has been evacuated and emergency services remain at the scene, but gardai said there is no further concern for public safety. A Garda spokesperson said they were alerted to reports of a firearm discharge at Fairgreen Shopping Centre shortly after 6.15pm. The spokesperson said: 'An Garda Siochana are currently at the scene, with the shopping centre and car park cordoned off. 'The cordon will remain in place overnight. 'A white Irish adult male is deceased at the scene. 'The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been requested to attend.' The spokesperson added: 'A female juvenile received treatment from paramedics following the incident but did not require hospital care. 'It's undetermined at this time as to how those injuries were sustained.' Gardai have asked that anyone who may have recorded footage of the incident not share it on social media platforms or messaging apps, but instead provide it to Carlow Garda Station. Anyone with information is asked to contact Carlow Garda Station at 059-9136620 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111. Investigations are ongoing. Ireland's deputy premier, Simon Harris, said he was 'deeply concerned' to hear about the incident and was being kept briefed. Mr Harris said: 'I understand a young child has been hurt and I join with people across our country in thinking of them and their family tonight. 'I am also thinking of all those who witnessed this situation and the awful shock and upset it must have caused them. 'I know their families and communities will rally to support them. 'I am grateful to our emergency services for their work and response.' The Tanaiste added: 'This is a live Garda Investigation with the support of members of the Army Bomb Disposal Unit. 'I have been in touch with the chief of staff of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Rossa Mulcahy, in relation to this incident and the assistance our Defence Forces are providing. 'It's important now that our Gardai can carry out this investigation thoroughly.' Mr O'Callaghan said: 'This was a really shocking incident. 'My thoughts are with everyone affected by the shooting and the community and families impacted, including those working at the scene. 'I would appeal to anyone who has any information to speak to the gardai and help with their investigations in any way that they can.' He added: 'This is something we never want or expect to happen in our communities. 'Gun violence is very rare in Ireland, and I am determined that will remain the case. 'The area in Carlow is safe. 'We must now allow An Garda Siochana to investigate this incident fully.' Local Fine Gael councillor Fergal Browne said people in the town had been left terrified He said: 'I think it is all under control now, it seems the worst is over. 'People were obviously terrified, a bank holiday Sunday, going into town to do their shopping. 'People ran from the centre crying and upset. 'There was a bunch of foreign students in the area, who could not believe they were caught up in the middle of all of it. 'It's a busy spot. We launched a photographic exhibition there on Friday night in the shopping centre.' Mr Browne added: 'There is lots of activity in the centre between people shopping and people working there, exhibitions. 'You could not make it up. It's very upsetting for everyone who was involved in it or who witnessed it. 'I was down there in the last hour and it seems to have calmed down a good bit now.' Mr Browne said he wanted to thank all of the emergency services who had attended the scene.
