HM The Sultan receives Eid Al Adha greetings from Omani officials
Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has received Eid Al Adha greetings from some officials in the Sultanate of Oman.
They expressed their sincere greetings to His Majesty on this happy occasion. They wished His Majesty good health, happiness and a long life, praying to the Almighty Allah for the return of this and similar occasions on His Majesty at a time the Omani people enjoy further progress and prosperity.

Geneva: The Sultanate of Oman expressed its full support for the decision made by the International Labour Conference to upgrade Palestine's membership from a national liberation movement to a "non-member observer state" within the organization. This step is based on legal and institutional considerations consistent with the principles of international justice, equitable representation, and fair participation in multilateral organizations. Khalid Salim Al Ghamari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for Labour Affairs, delivered a speech at the conference, affirming that the State of Palestine has consistently engaged in active and responsible participation in the organization's work. He emphasized that Palestine has repeatedly demonstrated its commitment to international labour standards and has cooperated constructively with the ILO's various mechanisms. Despite the exceptional challenges it faces, granting Palestine "observer member" status will enhance its ability to convey the realities of Palestinian workers and defend their rights through official and institutional channels, Al-Ghamari noted. He stated that this decision is a technical measure that strengthens the ILO's efficiency and inclusivity, reflecting its commitment to enabling all relevant parties to contribute to achieving decent work goals and promoting fundamental labour rights, in line with the spirit of international conventions and the organization's founding principles. He added that voting in favour of the resolution reaffirms the importance of multilateralism, inclusive engagement, and ensuring representation for all peoples in international organizations. It also reinforces the ILO's role as a platform for dialogue and understanding, upholding its foundational principles away from political tensions or narrow interests. During its 113th session today, the International Labour Conference, at the high-level ministerial meeting in Geneva, adopted the resolution with 386 votes in favour, 15 against, and 42 abstentions. The 113th session of the International Labour Conference began last Monday and concluded today, with the participation of tripartite delegations representing over 187 ILO member states, including governments, employers, and workers.

Pilgrims‘stone the devil'as Haj nears end
MINA, SAUDI ARABIA: Pilgrims were performing the last major ritual of the Haj — the "stoning of the devil" — on Friday, as Muslims around the globe celebrated the beginning of the Eid Al Adha holiday. From before day break, the 1.5 million-plus pilgrims began throwing seven stones at each of three concrete walls symbolising the devil in the Mina valley, on the outskirts of the holy city of Mecca. Droves of pilgrims had already set out from their accommodation in the sprawling tent city in Mina before dawn, taking advantage of the cool temperatures. The ritual commemorates Abraham's stoning of the devil at the three spots where it is said Satan tried to dissuade him from obeying God's order to sacrifice his son. A day earlier, pilgrims converged on Mount Arafat, praying and reciting Quran verses at the 70-metre (230-foot) rocky rise near Mecca, where the Prophet Mohammed is believed to have given his last sermon. Many climbed the mount despite the searing heat, though numbers had thinned by midday following official warnings for pilgrims to stay inside between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. This year's Haj saw authorities implementing a range of heat mitigation efforts alongside a wide-ranging crackdown on illicit pilgrims — resulting in noticeably thinner crowds and a heavy security presence at holy sites in Mecca and surrounding areas. The measures were aimed at preventing a repeat of last year's Haj that saw 1,301 people die in temperatures that hit 51.8 degrees Celsius (125 degrees Fahrenheit). Saudi authorities said a majority of those deaths were among pilgrims who slipped into Mecca illegally and lacked access to accommodation and other services aimed to keep pilgrims safe and protected from the searing desert heat. Haj permits are allocated to countries on a quota basis and distributed to individuals by a lottery system. But even for those who can secure them, the high costs spur many to attempt the Haj without a permit, even though they risk arrest and deportation if caught. The stoning ritual in the Mina valley was the scene of a fatal stampede in 2015, when 2,300 people were killed in one of the deadliest Haj disasters. Saudi Arabia earns billions of dollars a year from the Haj and the lesser pilgrimage known as umrah, undertaken at other times of the year. The pilgrimages are also a source of prestige for the Saudi monarch, who is known as the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques of Mecca and Medina. HM offers Eid prayers in Nizwa
The Sultanate of Oman celebrated the first day of Eid Al Adha on Friday. Meanwhile, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik offered the prayers of Eid Al Adha for the year 1446 AH at the Sultan Qaboos Mosque in the Wilayat of Nizwa in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. Dr Mohammed bin Said al Maamari, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, led the worshippers and delivered the Eid sermon, thanking the Almighty Allah for the blessings of peace and praying for the soul of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The sermon underscored that Haj is a purification of the heart and that a nation is built upon covenant and empowerment. It affirmed that security is the cornerstone of development and that true prosperity begins with intention before construction and with purpose before cultivation. Loyalty to the land, it declared, lies not in its material wealth but in its people — those who inhabit it with devotion and faith. Life, it reminded, is not granted to those who merely wait, but to those who strive. The land's blessings flourish when sincere intention stirs in a heart that first believes, then acts. The sermon further emphasised that nations rise when a leader guides with unwavering integrity, followed by generations who uphold his vision, echo his prayers, affirm their allegiance and perform the rites of gratitude. It also addressed the divine prohibition against contentious debate, warning that it sows hatred and discord. Rising above such disputes, it asserted, is a mark of wisdom in nation-building and a revival of timeless principles. Just as 'there is no argument in Haj,' there should be no dispute over a nation's foundational truths. Every idea has its moment and every critique its boundaries. Reason must temper words before they are spoken; and dignity and sanctity must be upheld. Further, the sermon reaffirmed that loyalty to the homeland is everlasting, its progress unceasing. In the hearts of its people lies an unbreakable covenant — one that binds them together, protects what has been built with wisdom and resolve; and guides their steps forward with clarity and sincerity. Together, they engage in dialogue with wisdom, offer critique with responsibility and advance with confidence. After performing the Eid prayers, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik accepted greetings from well-wishers and exchanged cordial sentiments with them. As His Majesty the Sultan left the Mosque, the artillery fired twenty-one rounds in salutation of the Supreme Commander. After that, the Royal motorcade of His Majesty the Sultan left. The prayers were performed alongside His Majesty the Sultan by some of their highnesses members of the Royal Family, Al Busaid dignitaries, ministers, advisors, commanders of the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and other military and security services, some members of the State Council and Majlis Ash'Shura in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, under-secretaries, walis, shaikhs and citizens. — ONA 3035241
