Modi felicitated for ‘success' of Op Sindoor by MPs in NDA Parliamentary meeting

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was felicitated by MPs of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance on Tuesday for the success of Operation Sindoor during the NDA parliamentary party meeting held at the Parliament Library Building in New Delhi. This key meeting comes amid an ongoing deadlock in Parliament, with opposition parties demanding a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and calling for its withdrawal.
The Lok Sabha could not take up the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025, for discussion amid opposition protests.
Meanwhile, the leaders of the INDIA bloc will meet on Tuesday at 10 am in the Parliament Library Building, in the office of the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha.
Following the meeting, MPs of the alliance will stage a protest at 10:30 am in front of Makar Dwar in Parliament against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The protest will be held under the slogan, 'our vote, our right, our fight'.
The Lok Sabha will begin its proceedings on Tuesday with obituary references to the passing away of former MPs Tilakdhari Prasad Singh, Ram Rati Bind, and Shibu Soren.
According to the List of Business issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is scheduled to move amendments to the National Anti-Doping Act, 2022, for consideration and passage in the House. The Union Sports Minister will also move the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, in the lower house of the Parliament. (ANI)

Synopsis Amidst opposition protests, Parliament has passed The Coastal Shipping Bill, 2025, aiming to boost domestic shipping and national security. The bill, already approved by the Lok Sabha, seeks to streamline regulations for Indian ships, promoting ease of doing business. It defines coastal waters and encourages Indian ownership and operation of coastal fleets for commercial and strategic purposes. Parliament on Thursday passed The Coastal Shipping Bill, 2025 with the Rajya Sabha approving it amid continued protest by Opposition MPs demanding a discussion on revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said the Bill would reduce the compliance burden for Indian ships in line with the concept of "ease of doing business", and ensure supply chain security for the country. The Coastal Shipping Bill, 2025 was approved in the Upper House through voice vote amid protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) issue. The Bill was approved by the Lok Sabha on April 3, 2025. The text of the Bill says it aims to consolidate and amend the law relating to regulation of coastal shipping, promote coasting trade and encourage domestic participation therein, to ensure that India is equipped with a coastal fleet, owned and operated by the citizens of India for its national security and commercial needs. Under the Bill, coastal waters mean territorial waters of India, along with adjoining maritime zones. Territorial waters extend up to 12 nautical miles (about 22 km) from the coast, while adjoining maritime zones extend up to 200 nautical miles (about 370 km).

Rahul Gandhi flags over 1 lakh voter ‘discrepancies' in Karnataka, alleges EC colluding with BJP
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the Election Commission of colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He alleged that in Karnataka's Mahadevepura Assembly constituency alone, there were discrepancies in 1,00,250 names in the electoral roll. Gandhi alleged that out of these, there were 11,965 duplicate voters, 40,009 voters with fake or invalid addresses, 10,454 'bulk voters' registered in a single address, 4,132 voters with invalid photographs and 33,692 voters in whose cases there had allegedly been misuse of Form 6. The Election Commission's Form 6 is an application document for registering new voters. Mahaedevapura is part of the Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency, which the BJP's PC Mohan won last year. Gandhi alleged that the Election Commission deliberately does not give political parties electronic data on voter lists as it does not want them to scrutinise the document carefully. He claimed that it took the Congress six months to identify discrepancies in the voter list of just the Mahadevapura Assembly segment. 'If the Election Commission had given us electronic data, it would have taken only 30 seconds,' he remarked. The leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said that the papers also do not support optical character recognition, which would have allowed for data to be extracted by scanning them. However, the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka asked Gandhi to send the names of electors who had been allegedly wrongly included or excluded 'so that necessary proceedings can be initiated', PTI reported. The chief electoral officer also asked Gandhi to sign an oath for each such name, adding that making false declarations was punishable under the Representation of Peoples Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
