Janaen Salalah ITC project set to redefine agritourism
Led by Omran Group through its subsidiary Agritourism Development Company, the project is located in the Arzat area and aims to position Oman as a regional leader in sustainable agritourism.
Janaen Salalah has been granted ITC status by Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, allowing foreign ownership and expanding its appeal to international investors. Spanning over 5.5mn sqm, the project will feature 250 residential units, a 128-key five-star hotel, processing facilities for coconuts and papayas, and areas dedicated to eco-recreation, education and wellness.
The project received a boost following a field visit on Tuesday by H H Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and H E Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. The officials reviewed the site's progress, with the visit marked by ceremonial planting of the first coconut trees – a symbolic step towards realising the project's agricultural goals.
According to Omran, several key milestones under Phase 1 have been achieved. These include completion of the concept masterplan, feasibility studies confirming the project's viability and appointment of an experienced agriculture contractor. Initial plantation works have already begun.

RO5.3mn moringa tree project launched in Thumrait
Salalah – An agreement for a major agricultural investment project to grow moringa trees and manufacture byproducts supporting food security, environmental sustainability and export diversification was signed on Wednesday. An usufruct contract covering an area of 10.5mn sqm in the Hanfit area of Thumrait was signed between Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning and Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. Led by Trufud, the project has an investment value exceeding RO5.3mn. The agreement was signed in the presence of H H Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, H E Dr Khalfan bin Said al Shuaili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, H E Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and officials of Trufud. The project is a unique investment initiative that links agriculture, manufacturing and supply chains, as part of Oman's efforts to promote sustainable agricultural investment and achieve food security. It is expected to yield annual revenues of RO4mn to RO5mn through exports of moringa-based products to markets in North America, Europe and Asia. The project is also expected to generate more than 500 direct job opportunities and additional roles in logistics, packaging and supply services. According to officials, the project will enhance local entrepreneurship and contribute to the economic development of Dhofar. The moringa tree is known for its nutritional and medicinal properties and the project includes facilities for production of oils and powders used in health products. In addition to commercial goals, the project includes environmental benefits. Planting 15mn moringa trees is expected to absorb more than 400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.

SALALAH: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, has signed a usufruct contract for a major agricultural investment project in the Wilayat of Thamrait, Dhofar Governorate. The initiative involves the cultivation of Moringa trees over an expansive area of 10.5 million square metres in Hanfit, with a total investment value exceeding RO 5.3 million. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar; Dr Khalfan bin Said al Shueili, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning; Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources; and representatives from Trufud, the company tasked with implementing the project. This large-scale agricultural venture aims to integrate agriculture with processing industries and global supply chains, representing a new direction in sustainable agribusiness development in Oman. It aligns with national efforts to enhance food security while fostering environmentally responsible investments. Expected to yield annual revenues of RO 4 to 5 million through the export of Moringa-based products, the project will target high-demand international markets, including North America, Europe and Asia. In addition to its commercial potential, the initiative will create over 500 direct employment opportunities, along with numerous indirect jobs in supply, packaging and logistics. These prospects are set to stimulate local entrepreneurship and contribute to socio-economic development in the Dhofar Governorate. Environmental sustainability is also at the core of the project, with plans to plant around 15 million Moringa trees. Oman Kite Festival 2025 kicks off from the shores of Barr Al Hikman
15 July 2025, Muscat – The Oman Kite Festival 2025 launched today on the scenic shores of Barr Al Hikman in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, welcoming more than 90 athletes from Oman and around the world. The festival is organised by OMRAN Group, in collaboration with Oman Sail, Visit Oman, and the Oman Adventure Centre. It aims to position Oman as a premier destination for sports and adventure tourism, while showcasing the country's rich natural landscapes and pristine coastal environment. Recognised as one of the region's leading events in adventure tourism and water sports, the festival offers an immersive experience for both participants and spectators. The official opening ceremony and race launch took place on the shores of Barr Al Hikman, in the presence of Dr. Hashil bin Obaid Al Mahrouqi, Chief Executive Officer of OMRAN Group, and Dr. Khamis bin Salem Al Jabri, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Sail, along with the festival participants. On this occasion, Sultan bin Sulaiman Al Khudoori, Assets Manager at OMRAN Group, highlighted the significance of the festival in enriching Oman's tourism offerings. The festival will bring together over 90 athletes competing across a series of dynamic races, most notably the multi-stage 'Oman Downwinder' challenge. This signature race unfolds in four stages: from Barr Al Hikman to Masirah Island, from Masirah Island via Ras Al Ruwais, then from the Pink Lagoons to Al Ashkharah, and finally from Ras Al Jinz to Ras Al Hadd. In addition to the Downwinder, the festival will also feature several specialised kite races, including the Kite Course Race at Barr Al Hikman, the Coastal Race at Masirah Island, and the Slalom Race at Ras Al Hadd. Complementing the sporting events, the festival will host a range of family-friendly activities and an exhibition for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at the Ashkharah Municipal Park. Oman Kite Festival 2025 is proudly registered as a Clean Regatta with Sailors for the Sea Powered by Oceana, an international standard for sustainable water-based events.
