FRISCO - We've done the analysis.
When it comes to Trevon Diggs' time with the Dallas Cowboys, there are three options being thrown out there.

Trade him.
Cut him.
Hope for him.
We will concede that the 51st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft has been a success story in many ways here ... it's been a while since the playmaking Diggs has lived up to expectations.
That is mostly due to the fact that he has sustained back-to-back season-ending injuries to that troublesome left knee ... and some people here inside The Star also think it's due to a previous lack of intensity when it came to his rehab.
But ...
He is a two-time Pro Bowler and was a First-Team All-Pro in 2021 ... at a time that was pre-injury and a time loaded with his record-setting ability to grab interceptions.

Can that all happen again?
As we have illustrated here, the Cowboys can "escape hatch'' their way out of his contract in a reasonably affordable way after the completion of the 2025 NFL season.
Do it next offseason and they save about $12.5 million while they carry a dead cap hit of just under $6 million in 2026. Or, better yet, they could designate him a post-June 1 release, saving $15.5 million and then can spread the dead cap of $6 mil over the 2026 and 2027 seasons at a little under $3 mil per year.
Trade? If Diggs' injuries keep him from returning to the field at some early stage this year (Trevon has targeted Week 1 for his comeback, unrealistic as that sounds), and if the rehab prevents him from returning to form in 2025 ...

Why would anybody want to trade for him?
That leaves ... "hope'' ... and indeed, internet memes aside, "hope'' is pretty much the plan.''
So, a source tells CowboysCountry.com, "We will wait.''
Wait on the rehab. Wait on cutting him. Wait on panicking.
Wait. Hope.
The fact that fellow DaRon Bland is entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2025 plays into this; maybe Dallas simply transfers its investment from Diggs to Bland.
The possible play of rookie Shavon Revel (also rehabbing) is a factor, too.
If he becomes a starting-caliber corner, Diggs' importance here shrinks.
But that's for later. For now?

Steelers' Terry Bradshaw Cracks Top 15 Best NFL Quarterbacks Ever

Steelers' Terry Bradshaw Cracks Top 15 Best NFL Quarterbacks Ever originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Before Terry Bradshaw (along with a few others) joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in the early 1970s, the franchise was a forgotten one, with zero success in the league during its history. Advertisement That all changed beginning in 1970 when Bradshaw was selected No. 1 overall by the Steelers. Bradshaw went on an incredible run to help put the Steelers on the map. That was continued in the 2000s by Ben Roethlisberger. Now, both appear on CBS Sports' list of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. 18. Ben Roethlisberger "'Big Ben' started his career by going 13-0 as Pittsburgh's starter during his rookie season, the best mark ever by a rookie quarterback. Roethlisberger followed that up a year later by becoming the youngest quarterback to win the Super Bowl as the Steelers became the first six-seed to win it all. Three years later, Roethlisberger capped off one of the greatest Super Bowls of all time by completing one of the most clutch passes in NFL history when he hit Santonio Holmes for the game-winning score. Advertisement "Roethlisberger was named to six Pro Bowls and is fifth all-time in career passing yards and eighth in career touchdown passes. He's the only player in history with three games with at least 500 passing yards. He had back-to-back games with six touchdown passes back in 2014." While Roethlisberger cracks the top 20, Bradshaw is just a bit higher and breaks into the top 15 at No. 13. 13. Terry Bradshaw "Believe it or not, Bradshaw is the only Steelers player who has won league MVP, doing so in 1978. Bradshaw also won the first of two consecutive Super Bowl MVP awards that season while becoming the first (and only) QB to win back-to-back Super Bowls twice. In Super Bowl XIII (played at the end of the '78 season), Bradshaw threw for then-Super Bowl records 318 yards and four touchdowns in Pittsburgh's 35-31 win over the Cowboys in the first Super Bowl played between two franchises that had already won multiple Super Bowls. Advertisement "In four Super Bowls, Bradshaw threw nine touchdowns against just four interceptions. He threw the game-winning score three times." Patrick Mahomes Shares Heartfelt Message From Mom Randi Mahomes on Friday

Patrick Mahomes Shares Heartfelt Message From Mom Randi Mahomes on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs' training facility may have been closed for the holiday, but Randi Mahomes, mother of NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was busy documenting a calm family scene back home on Friday. Advertisement Her Instagram story showed four‑year‑old daughter Sterling Skye Mahomes and 13‑year‑old half‑sister Mia Randall together at the kitchen table. A former athlete herself, Randi married Pat Mahomes Sr., a longtime MLB pitcher, and helped raise three children, including Patrick, his brother Jackson and half-sister Mia. Patrick and wife Brittany have three children: Sterling Skye (4), Patrick "Bronze" III (2) and Golden Raye (6 months). Within hours, Patrick reposted it, with nothing more than a single, "❤️." Patrick Mahomes, InstagramPatrick Mahomes, Instagram After starring in three sports at Whitehouse High School and posting staggering numbers at Texas Tech (5,052 passing yards and 41 touchdowns in his junior year), Mahomes was selected 10th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Advertisement Under coach Andy Reid, he has since become a three-time Super Bowl champion, three-time Super Bowl MVP, two-time NFL MVP, three-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15).Denny Medley-Imagn Images Mahomes also already holds numerous NFL records, including fastest to 30,000 career passing yards (103 games) and most total yards by a quarterback in a season (5,614 in 2022). Despite coming short of a historic three-peat last season, the Chiefs remain among the elite franchises in the NFL, with high hopes of competing for another Lombardi Trophy next season. Yet, with training camp still weeks away, this story momentarily shifts focus from trade winds, draft grades and preseason projections to simple family joy. Cowboys Trade For Trey Hendrickson Rumors Updated with Empty Connections

Cowboys Trade For Trey Hendrickson Rumors Updated with Empty Connections originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - NFL reigning sacks leader Trey Hendrickson wants to leave the Cincinnati Bengals. That is there problem. Advertisement The Dallas Cowboys have around $32 million under the salary cap. Is that their solution? It's right around July 4, the slowest time of the year for "news" in the NFL, with rosters set and training camps still weeks away. Add it all together, and lots of purported insiders and analysts are throwing "Hendrickson" and "Cowboys" together in headlines to see it it sticks. They use words like "urged" or "proposed" or "blockbuster" or even "connected." There's lots of Hendrickson to Cowboys keyword smoke. But absolutely no fire. The latest to join the fray is a site called Last Word on Sports. Their supposed reason for writing about the potential blockbuster trade of Hendrickson to Dallas? Advertisement "The Dallas Cowboys have been stacking up on talent defensively ever since they hired new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus," LWOS writes. "After signing Jack Sanborn and trading for Kenneth Murray Jr., they have some type of life following Demarcus Lawrence's departure. The hope is that they can extend Micah Parsons, but it would be interesting to see if Dallas could one day get Hendrickson to boost them to a well-rounded defensive line." "Interesting'' and "journalism'' are not the same thing. We've checked with the Cowboys on this. They recognize that this is no more than some fan-run sites playing Fantasy Football. Hendrickson led the NFL with 17.5 sacks in 2024. He wants a new contract, and might hold out of training camp looking for a hefty raise. The Bengals aren't biting (yet), and gave him permission to seek a trade. Advertisement But the truth? Hendrickson will likely cost $30 million a year. The Cowboys are currently negotiating a new contract with Parsons. They're not going to dump their entire salary cap on Hendrickson. ... and they are not in the end going to employ a pair of pass-rushers - awesome as a Micah/Trey combo sounds - at a cost of $70 million APY. The Cowboys report for training camp July 21 in Oxnard, California. ... where we hope a Micah deal quiets the ongoing empty media game.
