Two Sydney homes have been targeted in brazen shootings overnight, with shots fired while children and elderly residents were inside.
The first home was targeted on Queen St, Croydon Park at about 8pm on Friday.
Police were told a person was seen standing out the front and firing two shots from a pistol into the home, before getting into the driver's seat of a white hatchback.
A 44-year-old man, three women - aged 40, 51, and 71 - were inside the home with a five-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl at the time.
No injuries were reported.
The white hatchback was last seen travelling north along Tavistock St, police say.
The incident is believed to be targeted.
Police say the incident is believed to be targeted and have urged anybody with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
Little more than three hours later at about 11.25pm, police received reports of gunshots being fired into a unit in Prairiewood.
An 80-year-old woman was inside at the time but was not injured.
Police say a white Ford Ranger was seen in the vicinity at the time of the second shooting.
It is believed at this stage to have been a case of mistaken identity.
There is no evidence at this stage to suggest the Prairiewood shooting is linked to the earlier incident at Croydon Park, according to police.

Gunman kills five in ‘mass shooting' in Thai capital: police

A gunman has killed at least five people, including security guards, and wounded one other person in a mass shooting at a popular fresh food market in Thailand's capital on Monday, police said. 'Police are investigating the motive. So far it's a mass shooting,' Worapat Sukthai, deputy police chief of Bangkok's Bang Sue district where the incident took place, told AFP. He said the suspect took his own life after the shooting and police were working to identify him, as well as investigating 'for any possible link' to the current border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia. Footage shows bodies strewn on a street as the pistol-wielding shooter runs along a road. Separate footage shows market visitors and staff scrambling to hide as police search for the shooter. The attack took place at Or Tor Kor Market, a short distance from Chatuchak Market, which is a major tourist destination in Bangkok and throngs with visitors every weekend. Mass shootings are not uncommon in Thailand, where firearms can be obtained relatively easily due to lax gun control enforcement.

Sydney man's alleged $3.5m NT government scam

A Sydney scammer has been arrested and charged after convincing the Northern Territory government to transfer him over $3.m in taxpayers dollars. The Australian Federal Police launched an investigation in November 2024 after a bank reported a suspected business email compromise incident resulting in $3.5m being stolen from a government agency. The police will allege that on November 7 last year, the NT government agency received an email from someone they believed to be a contractor from a construction company they were working with. The email reportedly included forged details such as a completed vendor identification form with new bank account details and appeared to copy in other individuals from the construction firm. Investigators allege the man registered a business with a name similar to that of the legitimate contractor and opened a bank account to receive the misappropriated funds. The agency then transferred $3,583,363 to the allegedly fraudulent account, believing it was associated with the genuine construction company. The email addresses that appeared to belong to employees of the construction company were allegedly fake and created to make the scheme appear authentic. Further investigation into the phone number listed on the vendor form allegedly led police to the suspect. While most of the funds were recovered, authorities allege the man accessed a portion of the stolen money with approximately $11,603 still unaccounted for. Police also allege the man made several cash withdrawals from the bank account containing the stolen funds. On 23 July 2025, the AFP executed a search warrant at his home, seizing electronic devices and documents linked to the company he had established. The man has been charged with one count of dealing with proceeds of crime – money or property worth $1m or more. The maximum penalty of the offence is 12 years in prison. AFP Detective Superintendent Marie Andersson said the incident functioned as a timely warning for businesses and individuals to stay alert for potential scams. 'In the 2023-2024 financial year, business email compromise and fraud were among the most common self-reported cybercrimes for small, medium and large businesses and individuals in Australia,' Superintendent Andersson said. 'It is crucial to double check emails, particularly if there is a request for a change in banking details. 'Call the party you are engaged with to confirm the request is legitimate – and use a phone number that you've previously used or independently verified – don't call a number in the suspicious email. 'If you have fallen victim, report it immediately to your bank and the police to give us the best chance of recovering your money. 'As a result of quick action and preventive measures undertaken by the bank involved, $3,571,760 of the allegedly stolen money was recovered.' The Lurnea man, 38, appeared in Liverpool Local Court in Sydney week. He granted conditional bail and he is set to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on September 17.

Radio giant Kyle Sandilands breaks silence after horror Rose Bay crash

Radio giant Kyle Sandilands has broken his silence after his chauffeur was involved in a horrific accident in Sydney's eastern suburbs on the weekend. The 54-year-old, shared details on the KIIS FM's Kyle & Jackie O show on Monday of the crash involving his driver George Plassaras who broke multiple bones in the collision involving a $1 million Rolls-Royce. 'You may have seen over the weekend, it was all over the news, a head-on collision in Rose Bay in Sydney with a Rolls-Royce and a Mercedes,' he said. 'Well, that was my driver, George.' The Rolls-Royce, allegedly driven by a 23-year-old woman, crashed into Mr Plassaras, 52, who was driving a Mercedes on New South Head Road, Rose Bay, about 3.30am on Saturday. Mr Plassaras suffered horrific injuries in the crash, the shock jock explained. Among the injuries, he suffered a broken spine, broken ribs, a ruptured spleen and diaphragm, a torn open abdomen, two broken hips and two broken femurs, Mr Sandilands said. Meanwhile, the driver of the Tiffany Blue Rolls Royce, which is thought to be worth $1 million, was not injured. Mr Sandilands, thanked his chauffeur for being the 'greatest employee ever'. 'What did [he] say when he was taken away in the ambulance? He asked for his mobile phone so he could do what?' he said. 'This is a guy at 4.30 in the morning after he has been cut out of his vehicle, he's been trapped in his van for an hour, this poor bloke. 'And he asks the ambo: 'Get my phone so I can make sure Kyle's all right for the week.' Incredible images from the scene of the crash showed debris from both vehicles strewn all over the eastern suburbs road in the early hours of Saturday morning. NSW Police said Mr Plassaras was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital in a stable condition. Meanwhile, the driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result, police allege. She was arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station where she allegedly refused to undergo a breath analysis. She was charged with cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle and refuse or fail to submit to breath analysis. She was given conditional bail to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on August 15.
