Kochi: City police on Tuesday detained three members of an inter-state burglary gang following a tip-off from Tamil Nadu police. The accused, from Rajasthan and Haryana, allegedly stole a car in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu and abandoned it before entering Kerala, police said.
The suspects have been identified as Saikul (32) from Bharatpur, Rajasthan; Najeer (33) from Mewat, Haryana; and Sadam (38) from Nuh, Haryana.
They were reportedly using a delivery service as a front to commit thefts and had travelled to Kochi to deliver air-conditioning components.
The truck they arrived in was intercepted around 3am in the Panangad police station limits, after Tamil Nadu police alerted Kerala authorities that a truck carrying a stolen car was headed towards Kochi.
While the truck did not contain the car, police found AC components and during a detailed inspection, discovered a hidden compartment with a gas cutter and burglary tools.
Drama unfolded at the Panangad police station when one of the accused requested to use the toilet and escaped through a window. He was later caught from a nearby marsh.
"Preliminary findings suggest the gang operated under the pretext of delivering goods, commits thefts and then conceals the stolen items in their truck," a senior officer said.

During questioning, Saikul admitted to stealing a car from Krishnagiri and abandoning it 15km from the Kerala border. Police said he has at least 10 criminal cases, including several vehicle thefts, against him. Investigations are underway into the backgrounds of the other two suspects, with officials suspecting the trio are part of a larger gang based in Haryana.
The arrests come weeks after a Rajasthan-based gang was caught following ATM robberies in Thrissur and a police encounter in Tamil Nadu. Police are now examining whether the latest suspects are linked to other crimes in Kerala.
Their arrest will be formally recorded after detailed interrogation, the officer said.

His son on run since killing teacher, man slits own throat at police stn

Jaipur: In an unexpected development in the investigation into the killing of a govt school teacher in Banswara, the father of the murder accused allegedly slit his own throat at Kalinjara police station when he was brought there Wednesday for questioning about his son's whereabouts. Police have not clarified what the sharp object he used was or how he managed to harm himself. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Udaipur. The man, 50-year-old Hemant Bhagaura, is the father of Mahipal Bhagaura, a taxi driver accused of murdering 36-year-old Leela Tabiyar, a Grade-II Sanskrit teacher. The killing took place on July 1, when Leela was waiting at the Kalinjara town bus stand. According to police, Mahipal arrived in a car and attacked her without warning, stabbing her repeatedly in the stomach with a sword in full public view. Leela collapsed at the scene as stunned bystanders watched in disbelief. Mahipal tried to flee but crashed his car into a tree shortly after and escaped on foot. He has been on the run since. Police said they brought Hemant Bhagaura in for questioning Wednesday morning. Shortly after his arrival at the police station, officers noticed blood oozing from his throat. "He was immediately taken to a local hospital and later referred to Udaipur for treatment. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo We recorded his statement, in which he said he injured himself," said Vikram Singh Ranawat, SHO of Kalinjara police station. College principals, staff, agents booked in Rs 6.5cr fake student scam in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A large-scale education scam involving the fraudulent withdrawal of over Rs 6.5 crore in govt aid, under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Swayam Yojana, was unearthed in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. An FIR was registered against several college principals, clerks, agents, and others for allegedly uploading fake student records to the govt portal to siphon off funds over a three-year period. The scam came to light following an inquiry conducted by S R Pedhekar, the assistant commissioner of tribal development, Amravati. The inquiry's findings were submitted in a report to the department. Based on this, Chetna Daulat More, the project officer of the Integrated tribal development project, lodged a formal complaint with the Pundaliknagar police, and an FIR was registered late on Tuesday. As per the complaint, 1,416 fake students were shown as admitted to various colleges, and bogus documents were created to establish their eligibility. These fabricated records were uploaded to the Swayam Yojana portal for the academic years 2022–23, 2023–24, and 2024–25, allowing the accused to fraudulently claim a total of Rs 6,53,16,050 in govt aid. According to investigators, the colleges, in alleged connivance with middlemen and some officials from the tribal development project office, prepared and submitted fraudulent documents despite knowing the students were non-existent. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your donations can help this little boy see again clearly Donate For Health Donate Now Undo The documents were then used to show fake admissions and secure financial benefits from the govt.
