UK's oldest museum reveals new £11.6million redevelopment plan
The Royal Armouries - which is home to the national collection of arms and armour - in Leeds, has secured a government loan to purchase the land it stands on.

According to the

"We've been around since at least the early 14th Century, but for most of our
history
it was sitting in
the Tower
of London
"This is the first time in 702 years that we've owned our own home."
The Royal Armouries moved from London to Leeds in the 1990s as part of a project to regenerate what was a "pretty grim, post industrial" part of the city.

The museum is publicly-owned and free to visit and includes items from around the world such as Henry VIII's armour and James Bond's Walther PPK.

Part of the future plans for the site include the development of the tityard site - which is used for jousting matches and displays - into a multipurpose riverside arts,
The museum is also planning to refurbish its exhibition galleries, which includes adding digital
technology

Mr Edwards suggest that this space could see the recreation of a
battlefield
experience - bringing the history to life.

In addition, the wider site that the museum acquired around Leeds Dock is also been looked at for new housing developments.

Mr Edwards shared shared that the museum is keen to support wider housing development in the south side of Leeds, but thinks that the area around the Armouries is "such an important public space".
The Royal Armouries also works with the Ministry of Defence to help new recruits into the army better understand the realities of war.
And the museum works with the Border Force, the
police
and various other intelligence services - some of which involves training AI systems to detect weapons in suitcases and working with the police to limit the effects of 3D printed weapons.
Mr Edwards shared that the key to the museum's success was developing these partnerships and creating spaces and tools to tell the stories of human conflict.

The museum's collection includes items which detail British colonial history in East Africa, for example.

Italian performer Luke — who has 2.1million followers on TikTok and 1.88million subscribers on YouTube — invites people to sing with him in the English capital. Mathilde told The Irish Sun: 'I knew Luke has millions of people watching his videos on YouTube and TikTok but I never thought I would be in one. 'That was until I went on a trip to London with my mum a few weeks ago. 'I heard music coming from Leicester Square and realised it was Luke performing one of his famous videos. 'I really wanted to talk to Luke about us duetting together. But I was nervous about asking him as he is such a big inspiration. However, my mum then told Luke that I was a great singer.' Although the DJ and vocalist had finished for the day, he asked Mathilde for her Instagram account, @mathildemullinsmusic, and promised to be in touch. She said: 'The next day I got a message from Luke saying, 'Hey Mathilde, I'm in Leicester Square today and will be singing around 3pm, will you make it?' And asked about the reaction since, Mathilde said: 'A lot of people are comparing my voice to Dolores O'Riordan. They asked me would I cover Zombie by The Cranberries, so I posted that and we've had 31,000 views on TikTok. 'I can't wait to see what the future holds. Busking in London has changed my life forever. 'After we performed that day in Leicester Square, I remember Luke said to me, 'Wow Mathilde what a voice and a great range you have. Keep going, I know you'll go far and you are only 16.'" He also said, 'Never give up, you've got talent and your journey has just begun.'" And she's found similar success to Irish sensation Allie Sherlock, who also went viral on social media. Allie's success even led to one of her videos being shared by pop sensation Justin Bieber. The then 14-year-old student amassed a hug following since she started her singing career, garnering over two million subscribers on YouTube and over one million followers on Instagram.
