Rahul Gandhi to Election Commissioners: Day will come when INDIA bloc will form govt in Bihar as well as Centre

Mint2 days ago
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi warned the chief election commissioner and the two election commissioners of stern action when the INDIA bloc forms a government, asserting that 'vote chori'is an attack on Bharat Mata.
Addressing a gathering at Gaya Ji in Bihar on Monday, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha directly attacked Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and election commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
'Whatever I say, I do it. You have seen that I don't lie from the stage... these three election commissioners... I want to tell them that it is Modiji's government right now... Tejashwi (Yadav) ji said that you (election commissioners) have taken BJP membership and are working for them,' he said.
'But understand one thing, a day will come when there will be an INDIA bloc government in Bihar and Delhi; then we will take action against the three of you... You've stolen (vote) from the whole country,' Gandhi said as he wound up the second day of the Voter Adhikar Yatra with RJD's Tejashwi Yadav by his side..
'Election commissioners must hear out that if they don't do their job, there will be strict action against them,' Gandhi asserted.
In a blistering attack on the Election Commission, Gandhi also said that the poll body had brought in a 'new special package' for Bihar, which is named SIR (special intensive revision), a 'new form of vote theft,' just like the special package Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks about.
He said the Election Commission was asking him to file an affidavit even after the poll panel's "vote theft" had been caught.
'I want to tell the EC that the whole country will ask you to give an affidavit. Give us some time, we will catch your theft in every assembly and Lok Sabha seat, and put it before the people,' he said.
"What did they do? Like PM (Narendra) Modi ji talks of a special package, the EC has brought a new special package for Bihar named SIR, which means a new form of vote theft," Gandhi added.
The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha made the remarks a day after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar gave him a seven-day ultimatum to submit a signed affidavit to back his claims; otherwise, the allegations would be considered baseless and invalid.
In his first press conference after Gandhi levelled allegations of 'vote chori' in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and several opposition leaders flagged issues about the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, CEC Kumar asked the Congress leader to either apologise or back his claims with a signed affidavit as required under electoral rules.
"Give an affidavit or apologise to the nation. There is no third option. If an affidavit is not given within seven days, this means that all allegations are baseless," said Kumar on Sunday, flanked by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

Let 21-yr olds to contest assembly poll: Revanth

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday pushed for reducing the minimum age to contest assembly elections from 25 to 21 years. He argued that younger leaders must be given space in lawmaking to drive India's future. Paying floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his 81st birth anniversary at the late PM's statue opposite the secretariat, the CM said the move would carry forward Rajiv's vision of empowering youth. "It was Rajiv who gave voting right to every Indian above 18. Today, inspired by the same spirit, we want to give every 21-year-old the opportunity to shape lawmaking in legislative assemblies," Revanth said. If they can thrive at 21, why not as MLAs?" he said. He said the minimum age for contesting Lok Sabha elections could remain at 25 for now, the assembly threshold must be lowered to 21 so that 'young guns' can take charge at the state level. Revanth went a step further, tying the proposal to Congress' national ambitions. "Telangana Assembly will pass a resolution urging the Centre to amend the Constitution once Rahul Gandhi becomes prime minister. To realise this dream, Rahul should be made PM," he declared, calling on youth to rally behind Congress. He recalled how Rajiv had ensured 33% reservation for women in local bodies, laying the foundation for future legislation on women's reservation in state assemblies and Parliament. Revanth claimed that despite BJP's reluctance, it was Rajiv's vision that sowed the seeds of women's political empowerment. He also praised Rajiv's partnership with technocrat Sam Pitroda, which spurred the information technology revolution. "In Hyderabad, the foundation for Hi-Tec City was laid during Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy's tenure as chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. Today, Hyderabad stands as a hub for IT, data centres, and global capability centres, with Telugu technocrats holding crucial positions in Silicon Valley," he said. Drawing a parallel between Rajiv's vision and Congress govt's current agenda, Revanth said his govt was working to make Hyderabad compete with the world's best cities through projects like Future City and Musi river rejuvenation. He highlighted recent measures, including resolving long-pending SC categorisation and implementing 42% reservation, as proof of his govt's commitment to inclusive growth. VP polls: KTR offers vote to whoever gets 2L MTs of urea to T

Hyderabad: With both NDA and INDIA bloc announcing their vice-presidential candidates, BRS working president KT Rama Rao has stated that BRS is an independent party and not aligned with either of the groups. The party has four Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament (MPs). He said the party does not have any bosses in Delhi and only the people of Telangana are the bosses of the pink party. . "BRS will support NDA or INDIA bloc, whoever gets two lakh metric tons (MTs) of urea to Telangana before Sept 9," KTR said at a press conference on Wednesday. KTR said no one approached BRS for support as of now, and the party would decide on the support for the candidate in the vice-presidential election. However, he said the party would definitely oppose the candidate proposed by chief minister A Revanth Reddy. He said Kancha Ilaiah or any other prominent BC leader would have been nominated as their candidate if they really had love towards BCs. KTR stated that the Congress govt was responsible for the unprecedented urea crisis in Telangana. He described the shortage as an "artificial scarcity created by Congress misrule" and demanded immediate corrective measures. He alleged that fertiliser stocks were being diverted and sold in the black market, while lakhs of farmers were forced to queue up for hours across the state. "For the first time in Telangana's history, woman farmers are spending nights outside depots, while farmers are leaving shoes and Aadhaar cards in queues to save their place, and in some cases even facing police cases for demanding fertiliser. This humiliation never happened in KCR's 10-year rule," he said. The BRS leader demanded that the state govt release a white paper on urea supplied by the Centre, stock position in warehouses, actual distribution to farmers, and quantities diverted or missing. He also urged the Centre to order a comprehensive investigation and take strict action against those responsible. He said BRS would soon announce a statewide protest programme from village to state level. "Farmers should not lose hope. BRS will fight until this crisis is resolved. We will not allow the Congress govt to ruin Telangana's farming progress," he declared. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Senthil says Janardhana's claims that he masterminded Dharmasthala case is ridiculous

1 2 Bengaluru: Sasikanth Senthil, a key strategist behind Congress' victory in the 2023 elections in Karnataka, denied allegations that he is the "mastermind" behind a campaign to defame Dharmasthala, the popular Hindu pilgrimage centre in Dakshina Kannada district. Mining baron and BJP legislator Gali Janardhana Reddy had accused Senthil, now a Congress MP from Tamil Nadu, of being "director and scriptwriter" in a case that led to the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe allegations of mass murders in Dharmasthala. Senthil suggested Reddy was being vindictive. He told TOI, "When I joined as assistant commissioner of Ballari, Reddy was in the spotlight for illegal mining and CBI had asked me to provide all documents against him. I have no connection with the Dharmasthala issue. I am not even aware of what is happening there." But Reddy stood by his accusation Wednesday. "If Senthil says he is innocent, then let him come and depose before SIT on his own volition and prove me wrong," Reddy said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Unwelcoming Countries in the World, Ranked BigGlobalTravel Undo Reddy said Senthil's tenure as assistant commissioner in Ballari began only after his arrest, and his allegations had nothing to do with being jailed because of the bureaucrat. Senthil countered it saying it is for the state govt to handle the issue, not him. "The Congress govt is quite competent to deal with allegations of mass murders in Dharmasthala and does not require a TN MP to intervene. The accusations against me are baseless and ridiculous," he said. He pointed out that even during his tenure as deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, he had little to do with Dharmasthala. "There were much bigger issues at play, and I had no time for rumours involving Dharmasthala," Senthil said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
