Rowling's "Harry Potter" books, the series is expected to debut in 2027 with new seasons releasing through 2037. "First-years, step forward," HBO Max wrote in an Instagram post this week, announcing that production has begun for the new series. Production begins 24 years after the release of the first movie of the original film series, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Here's what to know about the new "Harry Potter" television series, including its expected release date and casting. HBO's "Harry Potter" series will be another adaptation of Rowling's popular books, first turned into a film series starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in 2001. The new series is expected to release over the next 10 years. Opposed to the films, the television format will allow for a "deep dive into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years," Casey Bloys, HBO & Max Content chairman and CEO, said. HBO has not provided an exact premiere date for the television show, but Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed it will debut sometime in 2027. The "Harry Potter" series, upon its release, will be available to stream on HBO Max. HBO has confirmed the following stars: McLaughlin, 11, has been thrust into the spotlight since the announcement of his role as the new Harry Potter. According to McLaughlin's IMDb, the child actor played Oliver Gregory in the 2025 film, "Grow." Directed by John McPhail, the British comedy follows a little girl who is a pumpkin-growing savant. According to Warner Bros. Discovery, the series is being filmed at the Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, United Kingdom. The studio, featuring 350,000-square feet of sound stages, was home to the filming of the new "Superman" movie, 2023 "Barbie," 2023 "Wonka" and countless other blockbusters. Rowling will serve as an executive producer for the television show, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. Rowling, who has stirred controversy in recent years for anti-transgender activism, said in an X post that she has "worked closely" with writers of the television series. "I read the first two episodes of the forthcoming HBO 'Harry Potter' series and they are so, so, so good!" she told followers. Many Potterheads are thrilled for the new series, specifically because McLaughlin is playing Harry Potter. "He looks exactly like the cover art Harry, he is adorable!" wrote one commenter on the HBO Instagram post announcing the series' production. "Goodluck to him and please remember to be kind as he steps into big shoes, he's got this. " But others aren't too sure, as some fans have expressed a continued distaste for Rowling's takes on the trans community. "The Pitt" snags 13 Emmy nominations, including best drama and best actor
"The Pitt," the popular Pittsburgh-set medical drama starring Noah Wyle, snagged 13 Emmy nominations, including for best drama and best actor. The HBO Max series also got nods for supporting actress, directing, writing, sound editing, makeup and casting. While "The Pitt" got more than a dozen nominations, it was Apple TV+'s "Severance" that stole the show with 27 nominations overall. HBO Max's "The Penguin" got 24, and HBO Max's "The White Lotus" and Apple TV+'s "The Studio" each got 23. "The Pitt," which stars Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, has been lauded for its medical accuracy as well as its gripping real-time format, with 15 hour-long episodes covering a 15-hour ER shift. "This medical drama series offers a realistic look at the challenges healthcare workers face, as seen through the experiences of the frontline heroes at a Pittsburgh hospital," the description on HBO Max reads. While most of the first season was filmed on a set in Burbank, California, that looked like Allegheny General Hospital, the show spent three days filming in Pittsburgh last September. The crew shot drone footage above the hospital and around the city, and some scenes were shot on the hospital's helipad. "The Pitt" is produced by R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells and Michael Hissrich, all of whom have previously worked with Wyle on "ER." Wells and Hissrich are both Carnegie Mellon University graduates, giving the show even more of a Pittsburgh connection. Production is currently underway for the second season of "The Pitt." It's slated for a January 2026 premiere, according to Variety.
