KUALA LUMPUR: Globaltech Formation Bhd 's (Glotec) subsidiary, NuEnergy Gas Ltd, has commenced drilling operations for the TE-B06001 well at its Tanjung Enim Production Sharing Contract (PSC) Plan of Development 1 (Tanjung Enim POD 1) area.
The well is located approximately 218 kilometres (km) from Palembang, South Sumatra, and it is NuEnergy's and Indonesia's first commercial coal bed methane (CBM) project.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, NuEnergy said the well is the first of four planned CBM wells under its Early Gas Sales Initiative, targeting initial gas sales of one million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd).
A specially modified hydraulic drilling rig began drilling the TE-B06001 well on May 25.
"The TE-B06001 well will be drilled vertically to a planned depth of approximately 463 metres, targeting multiple coal seams between 288 metres and 400 metres.
"The well will be completed using an open-hole method - a proven technique optimised for gas recovery in CBM formations," it said.
NuEnergy said the drilling campaign reflects its commitment to delivering sustainable, cleaner energy solutions while supporting Indonesia's domestic gas supply strategy.
The successful execution of the TE-B06001 well will lay the groundwork for further development under Tanjung Enim POD 1 and validate the commercial potential of NuEnergy's CBM assets, it said.
Spanning about 33 square kilometres (km²) or 13 per cent of the total PSC area, the Tanjung Enim POD 1 has a planned production of 25 mmscfd, with reserves of 164.89 billion standard cubic feet, and has been certified by Indonesia's Research and Development Centre for Oil and Gas Technology, NuEnergy added.
"The Tanjung Enim POD 1 was approved by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in July 2021.
"As Indonesia's first commercial-scale CBM development, this project represents a strategic step toward achieving the country's energy transition goals through cleaner, unconventional gas sources," it said.
Its chairman, Bernard Kong, said the TE-B06001 well marks the beginning of a transformational journey, not just for the company, but also for Indonesia's gas sector as it moves towards cleaner, domestically sourced energy.
"With strong support from regulators and the local community, we are confident in delivering a project that meets both environmental and operational standards,' he said. - Bernama

GFB unit completes drilling work at production facility

PETALING JAYA: NuEnergy Gas Ltd, a subsidiary of Globaltec Formation Bhd (GFB) that is listed on the Australian Security Exchange, has completed the drilling for the TE-B06-003 well within its Tanjung Enim production sharing contract (PSC) plan of development one in South Sumatra, Indonesia. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, GFB said the TE-B06-003 the third of four planned coal bed methane (CBM) wells, and is targeting an initial gas sales volume of one million standard cubic feet per day. 'The well was drilled to a depth of 420m and five coal seams were intersected at depths ranging between 248m and 371m,' said GFB, adding that gas shows were observed via surface logging, confirming methane presence across multiple seams. Building on prior wells, it said NuEnergy, an independent clean energy company specialising in Indonesian unconventional gas assets, installed a progressive cavity pump system, incorporating real-time remote monitoring for optimised performance. 'This capability is expected to reduce downtime, enhance operational efficiency, and support long-term performance optimisation,' it noted. GFB said gas would be gathered at the surface facility and delivered to PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk via an infield pipeline, pursuant to a signed heads of agreement. NuEnergy holds three onshore CBM PSCs in South Sumatra, focusing on monetising reserves and supplying cleaner energy to Indonesia's growing market. 'NuEnergy's strategy is to integrate all its PSCs in South Sumatra as a CBM hub to supply sustainable clean energy to the local market and the country,' GFB emphasised. With the drilling rig now mobilising to the fourth well, NuEnergy is poised to achieve first gas production, driving shareholder returns amid Indonesia's energy demands. State regulators grant time for FPL and key stakeholders to finalize settlement that keeps customer bills well below national average

JUNO BEACH, Fla., Aug. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — State regulators unanimously agreed today to give Florida Power & Light Company and key stakeholder groups time to finalize a comprehensive four-year rate settlement that would keep customer bills well below the national average through the end of the decade. FPL and 10 supporting groups announced on Friday that they reached an agreement in principle. Today's vote enables the parties to finalize and file the settlement agreement with the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) by Aug. 20. The PSC granted the request by FPL and the supporting parties to delay technical hearings that were scheduled to begin today on FPL's original rates petition for 2026-2029. A word from FPL President and CEO Armando Pimentel: 'Today's decision enables us to finalize a settlement with key stakeholders that will benefit our customers and the state of Florida. We are pleased to have reached an agreement and appreciate the Commission's actions today to ensure a fair and open process for our customers and stakeholders. We are confident that the agreement we reach should enable FPL to continue to make smart investments on behalf of our customers, ensuring we can continue to provide reliable electricity while keeping customer bills low.' Participants: The agreement in principle is supported by the Florida Retail Federation, Florida Industrial Power Users Group, Florida Energy for Innovation Association, Walmart, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, EVgo Services, Fuel Retailers, Electrify America, the Federal Executive Agencies and Armstrong World Industries. How we got here: With FPL's current four-year rate agreement set to conclude at the end of this year, FPL on Feb. 28 submitted a petition to the PSC to set new rates for 2026 through 2029. That kicked off an extensive public review process in which FPL submitted thousands of pages of witness testimony and documents in support of its proposal. FPL responded to more than 3,000 interrogatories and requests for documents from 13 intervening parties and FPL witnesses participated in more than 30 depositions. The PSC conducted 10 public hearings across the state in May and June in which hundreds of customers weighed in on FPL's proposal. What's next: Once FPL and the supporting parties submit a finalized rate settlement agreement, the PSC will set a schedule to review the entire case. FPL has proposed that new rates would take effect Jan. 1, 2026. Taiwan to seek lower tariff after Trump's ‘temporary' 20% levy

Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te said his government will strive for a reasonable US tariff rate. (AP pic) TAIPEI : Taiwan vowed on Friday to seek a lower tariff after Donald Trump imposed a 'temporary' 20% levy on its shipments as part of his global trade war. The US president had threatened to hit the island with a 32% tax and possible duties on semiconductor chips. After four rounds of face-to-face negotiations and multiple video conferences, Taipei and Washington were still trying to strike a deal, Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te said on Facebook. 'The US has announced a temporary 20% tariff for Taiwan, with the possibility of further reductions should an agreement be reached,' Lai said. 'The government will continue to strive for a reasonable tariff rate and complete the final stages of the tariff negotiations.' Export-dependent Taiwan is a global powerhouse in chip manufacturing, with more than half the world's chips and nearly all of the high-end ones made there. Soaring demand for AI-related technology has fuelled its trade surplus with the US – and put it in the crosshairs of Trump's tariff blitz. Around 60% of Taiwan's exports to the US are information and communications technology, which includes chips. To avoid the punitive tariffs, Taipei has pledged to increase investment in the US, buy more of its energy and increase its own defence spending. While Washington does not recognise Taiwan as a country, it is the democratic island's most important backer and biggest arms supplier. Taiwan 'will continue to actively negotiate with the US to reach an agreement and promote Taiwan-US economic and trade cooperation', the cabinet in Taipei said Friday. Trump in April imposed a 10% tariff on almost all US trading partners, while announcing plans to eventually hike this level for dozens of countries. But days before the steeper duties were due to take effect on July 9, he pushed the deadline back to Aug 1. Taiwan's vice president Hsiao Bi-khim said recently that the government wanted a trade deal with Washington that 'will benefit both sides'. 'The US is indeed a very important trade partner for Taiwan,' Hsiao said. Washington also 'needs Taiwan in supporting resilient supply chains, in supporting manufacturing and some high-end technologies'. In the weeks leading up to Aug 1, several economies – the EU, Britain, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines and South Korea – struck pacts with Washington, while China managed to temporarily lower tit-for-tat duties.
