Cohere achieves USD 6.8 bln valuation after successful investment rounds

Business Economy New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) Cohere, a security-first AI enterprise company, achieved a USD 6.8 billion valuation after a successful investment round. Reportedly, Radical Ventures and Inovia Capital also participated in this funding round, besides AMD, Nvidia, and Salesforce Ventures. Canadian company Cohere distinguishes itself in this heated marketplace due to its unique operational approach. It's an AI company that builds and provides access to large language models (LLMs) and related AI tools. These tools mainly focus on offering that kind of AI solutions to companies which will improve operations, automate tasks, enhance customer service, and ultimately drive sales for the business. Cohere leverages Transformer-based Large Language Models (LLMs), which allow a range of generative AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications, including summarization, content creation, search, and chatbots. Moreover, the AI market is currently going through intense competition due to the launch of GPT-5 by OpenAI. But currently, multiple reports indicate that users are not impressed by the operational capabilities of GPT-5 which can be a major opportunity for Cohere to dominate. UNI SAS GNK

S&P Global Upgrades Ratings Of 10 Indian Financial Institutions, Including SBI, HDFC Bank

Last Updated: S&P raises long-term credit ratings on SBI, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Union Bank of India, Indian Bank, Bajaj Finance, Tata Capital, and L&T Finance. S&P Global Ratings on Friday upgraded the ratings of India's 10 financial institutions, including State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, and Tata Capital, after it raised the country's sovereign credit rating. 'India's financial institutions will continue to ride the country's good economic growth momentum. These entities will benefit from their domestic focus and structural improvements in the system such as in the recovery of bad loans," S&P said. The US-based agency raised long-term issuer credit ratings on seven Indian banks — SBI, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Union Bank of India, and Indian Bank — and three finance companies — Bajaj Finance, Tata Capital, and L&T Finance. 'We expect India's banks to maintain adequate asset quality, good profitability, and enhanced capitalisation over the next 12-24 months. This is despite some pockets of stress," S&P noted, adding that overall credit risk in the financial system has eased. On August 14, the agency had upgraded India's sovereign rating to 'BBB' after more than 18 years, citing strong economic fundamentals that are likely to support growth in the next two to three years. It also pointed out that monetary policy has become 'increasingly conducive to managing inflationary expectations". S&P highlighted that ratings of several Indian financial institutions remain capped by the sovereign rating, given the 'direct and indirect influence that the sovereign has on financial institutions operating in the country". The agency also credited the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), introduced in 2016, for strengthening the payment culture and rule of law. 'The code has tilted the balance in favour of the creditors. It has also promoted a credit culture that encourages restructuring of going-concern entities," it said. Separately, S&P had raised credit ratings of major state-run and private corporations, including ONGC, Power Grid Corporation of India, NTPC, and Tata Power, to 'BBB' from 'BBB-'. The outlooks were marked stable. India Exim Bank and Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) also received upgrades to 'BBB' from 'BBB-'. view comments First Published: August 17, 2025, 09:26 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Kerala CM to inaugurate Economics, Statistics department surveys

South Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 17 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the new surveys of the Department of Economics and Statistics here on August 25. From 2025–26 onwards, Kerala will participate in the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) and the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE), both conducted nationwide by the National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Union Ministry of Statistics. The government expects that participation in these surveys will help design and implement new schemes for the benefit of the state's youth and job seekers. The PLFS provides vital statistics on the labour sector, human resources, and workforce, including indicators such as the Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR), Worker Population Ratio (WPR), and the Unemployment Rate. The ASUSE collects data on various economic features of enterprises in the unorganised non-agricultural sector engaged in production, trade, and services (excluding manufacturing). It covers aspects such as economic activities, employment generation, capital investment, and the use of digital technology in unorganised enterprises. Until now, NSO survey data were available only at the state level. With Kerala's participation, district-level statistics will also become accessible. This is expected to provide more accurate data for project planning, enable a better assessment of changing labour markets, and support the preparation of estimates for calculating district-level income.
