Cowboys' schedule does 1st-round pick no favors in opening weeks, scheme must support him
Teams ideally like to ease their new players into tough situations the first year. The leap from the NCAA to the NFL is an enormous one, with the quality of opponent improving significantly. Each week poses a challenge for rookies as they face off against some of the most skilled opponents they've ever seen. That's a reality that will be immediately thrust upon newest Dallas Cowboys rookie, Tyler Booker.
Booker, drafted with the No. 12 overall pick, is the Cowboys top prize this draft cycle. The Alabama guard is a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the field. He's a born leader who figures to be a cornerstone in Dallas for years to come. He just has to survive the first two weeks of the season.
The Cowboys have had the unfortunate luck to draw two of their most hated rivals right out of the gate in 2025. Philadelphia and New York are at opposite ends of the NFC East spectrum, but they both bring equally nasty challenges to the Cowboys' top rookie.
Jalen Carter and Dexter Lawrence are two of the best, if not THE best, defensive tackles the NFL has to offer. They are physically imposing in strength, quickness and technique and can routinely get the best of even the most polished and proven guards the NFL has to offer. To think a rookie, making the first two starts of his career, has to face off against these superstars is concerning to say the least.
Working in Booker's favor is the alignment Brian Schottenheimer and Klayton Adams are expected to employ this season. Tightly condensed formations with closely positioned offensive linemen will minimize the damage these elite DTs can do. Booker will still be tested to his limits in the power category, but his gaps will shrink and margin for error should get a boost.
It's safe to say if Booker can hold up against Carter and Lawrence the first two games of his professional career, he would be on a pretty impressive NFL trajectory. But even if he struggles it'll be tough to blame him. He drew a tough hand and now he has to play the cards he's been dealt.

Aaron Rodgers signs with Steelers: See which number the new AFC North QB will wear
It was a big day filled with numbers for Aaron Rodgers on Saturday. He signed his contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The deal is for a year and will earn the quarterback $10 million guaranteed, with a maximum value of $19.5 million. The deal includes $5.85 million worth of playing time and team performance incentives. Rodgers will wear No. 8 for the Steelers, per Adam Schefter. No Steelers player has worn 12 since Terry Bradshaw, so that was out of the question, although the number is not retired. Ex-Buffalo Bills Receiver Meeting With AFC Rival
Ex-Buffalo Bills Receiver Meeting With AFC Rival originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Bills have had a lot of question marks at wide receiver over the past few years. The Bills have had more than a few costly departures, from brought in talent such as Stephon Diggs and homegrown talent such as Gabe Davis. Advertisement Davis was drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Bills. In his four seasons in Buffalo, Davis tallied 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns. The Bills did not extend Davis beyond his rookie deal, leading to him signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars on a three-year, $39 million contract. Davis struggled in Jacksonville's offense, only catching 20 of his 42 targets and posting 239 yards and two touchdowns. Davis' season was cut short by a torn meniscus in his left knee, only playing in 10 games. The Jaguars released Davis after the season, and he is currently looking for a new home: a home, reportedly, also in the AFC. Advertisement ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Davis is taking a meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday. "Sources: Former Bills and Jaguars WR Gabe Davis is scheduled to travel to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to visit with the Steelers on Thursday." Schefter posted on X. The Steelers are looking to add playmakers and pass catchers, and Davis is as good of a bounce-back candidate as they can get. "Pittsburgh has been seeking additional receiving help and has inquired about, but is not expected to trade for, Miami TE Jonnu Smith." Shefter added. Davis earned the nickname "Big Game Gabe" during his tenure in Buffalo. He had a number of standout performances for the Bills, namely in the playoffs. Advertisement In the Bills' overtime thriller against the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2021 AFC Divisional Round, Davis was the star of the game, despite the loss. Davis tallied 201 yards and four touchdowns on just eight receptions, having one of the greatest playoff performances in Bills' history. His heroics in the divisional game marked just the ninth time a player has recorded 200+ receiving yards in a playoff game, and the first time a receiver has hauled in four touchdowns.
