"A lot more expected out of you": Dallas Cowboys rookie Tyler Booker reveals how the SEC prepared him for the NFL

Credits: Getty The Dallas Cowboys are preparing to kick off a new era under head coach Brian Schottenheimer. The team selected Tyler Booker with the 12th overall pick of this year's draft. A move that clearly shows what kind of direction Schottenheimer wants to take the team in as they look to transition to the running game. Booker is coming off a stellar season with the Alabama Crimson Tide. At 6-foot-3, weighing close to 320 pounds, the Cowboys' rookie is an absolute unit and one of the strongest blockers in this year's draft class. Speaking to reporters at the Cowboys' training camp, Booker revealed how his college career and the SEC helped him prepare for the big leagues: 'It's definitely prepared me a lot — talent level and the way we do things in the SEC" 'In the SEC, things are done to a higher standard. There's a lot more expected out of you than in other conferences, and that's proven on a week-by-week basis. You see how much success SEC players have in the NFL, so that's definitely prepared me for where I am today." Tyler Booker is set to face his biggest challenge yet during his NFL debut Following a highly decorated career at Alabama, Tyler Booker is now preparing to take on one of the biggest challenges of his young career. Booker is expected to make his NFL debut against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4. In that game, Booker will likely match up against defensive lineman Jalen Carter. Now, Carter is widely regarded as one of the best defensive linemen in the league. So, Booker could be in for quite a welcome as he prepares for his first official league game in September. If the 21-year-old manages to hold his own against Carter, it will be safe to assume that the Cowboys have quite a prospect on their hands. But first, Booker will make his NFL preseason debut as the Dallas Cowboys take on the Los Angeles Rams on August 9. Was Tyler Booker surprised to be selected by Dallas Cowboys so early in NFL draft?

Tyler Booker was the first Alabama football player to hear his name called in the 2025 NFL draft. The former All-American guard and Crimson Tide team captain was the No. 12 overall pick of the NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys and was the first guard selected as a first-round pick since 2022. Advertisement But in an interview with "The Next Round" on April 28, Booker made it clear he was not shocked to be such a high first-round pick despite mock drafts placing him either later in the first round or even in the second. I know what I bring to a team, and what some of the 'experts' aren't privy to are how well I do in the classroom, how well I do on the board and my leadership and what I bring to the team. So the Cowboys didn't just draft a right guard that is going to come in and play after on of the greatest guards of all time. They also drafted a great leader, someone who is going to change their culture, someone who is going to improve their culture, improve their program and improve their team for years to come or however long the Lord sees fit." With Booker's pick, Alabama secured its 17th-straight draft with at least one first-round selection. Cowboys Tyler Booker In Prime Position For O-Line Superstardom

The Dallas Cowboys fortified its offensive line by drafting Alabama Crimson Tide offensive guard Tyler Booker with the No. 12 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Booker fills an immediate need at right guard after future Hall of Fame inductee Zack Martin retired earlier in the offseason. And the positive vibes continue as according to analyst Marc Ross, Booker is one of the 10 rookies in the best position to succeed. Advertisement "The Cowboys have a history of finding elite offensive linemen in the draft, including eight-time Pro Bowler Tyron Smith (2011), nine-time Pro Bowler Zack Martin (2014) and two-time Pro Bowler Tyler Smith (2022)," Ross wrote. "Now they have added a pro-ready guard in Booker. He's a tough, nasty and technical building block for Dallas' front. The Cowboys offense is at its best when the big boys in the trenches are controlling the line of scrimmage. Booker can help it return to being a prolific unit in the run and pass games." The new look offensive line for the Cowboys will be young and powerful, no doubt. The starting unit will likely feature Tyler Guyton at left tackle, All-Pro left guard Tyler Smith, Cooper Beebe at center, Booker at right guard, and Terrence Steele at right tackle. Advertisement Really, the maturation of second-year first-round pick Guyton is the biggest looming question mark. At the start of the 2025 season, Dallas will have four starting offensive lineman under the age of 25, with Terrence Steele being the 'elder statesman' at the current age of 27. Is there such a thing as an "O-line superstar''? Dallas can argue that Martin and another recent retiree Tyron Smith qualify. Those are monster-sized cleats to fill. So, for now? Booker will serve as yet another valuable investment in the backbone of every offense and Cowboys Nation certainly hopes he will not disappoint. Cowboys' schedule does 1st-round pick no favors in opening weeks, scheme must support him

Cowboys' schedule does 1st-round pick no favors in opening weeks, scheme must support him Teams ideally like to ease their new players into tough situations the first year. The leap from the NCAA to the NFL is an enormous one, with the quality of opponent improving significantly. Each week poses a challenge for rookies as they face off against some of the most skilled opponents they've ever seen. That's a reality that will be immediately thrust upon newest Dallas Cowboys rookie, Tyler Booker. Booker, drafted with the No. 12 overall pick, is the Cowboys top prize this draft cycle. The Alabama guard is a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the field. He's a born leader who figures to be a cornerstone in Dallas for years to come. He just has to survive the first two weeks of the season. The Cowboys have had the unfortunate luck to draw two of their most hated rivals right out of the gate in 2025. Philadelphia and New York are at opposite ends of the NFC East spectrum, but they both bring equally nasty challenges to the Cowboys' top rookie. Jalen Carter and Dexter Lawrence are two of the best, if not THE best, defensive tackles the NFL has to offer. They are physically imposing in strength, quickness and technique and can routinely get the best of even the most polished and proven guards the NFL has to offer. To think a rookie, making the first two starts of his career, has to face off against these superstars is concerning to say the least. Working in Booker's favor is the alignment Brian Schottenheimer and Klayton Adams are expected to employ this season. Tightly condensed formations with closely positioned offensive linemen will minimize the damage these elite DTs can do. Booker will still be tested to his limits in the power category, but his gaps will shrink and margin for error should get a boost. It's safe to say if Booker can hold up against Carter and Lawrence the first two games of his professional career, he would be on a pretty impressive NFL trajectory. But even if he struggles it'll be tough to blame him. He drew a tough hand and now he has to play the cards he's been dealt. Dallas Cowboys 2025 schedule: Week 1 road opener on TNF vs. rival Eagles

The NFL will release the 2025 schedules for all 32 teams at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Here is what we know about the Dallas Cowboys' schedule so far. The Cowboys will open the season on 'Thursday Night Football' against the defending Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Sept. 4 (8:20 p.m. ET). The league announced Wednesday morning that the Cowboys will host the Kansas City Chiefs on Thanksgiving (Nov. 27) at 4:30 p.m. Advertisement Along with playing each of its NFC East divisional rivals twice, once on the road at once at AT&T Stadium, Dallas will play each team in the NFC North and AFC West. The Cowboys will play eight home games and nine road games. Here is the lineup of home and road opponents, listed alphabetically. After three consecutive 12-5 seasons that led to playoff berths, the Cowboys fell to 7-10 last season and missed the postseason for the first time since 2020. They'll get QB Dak Prescott back after a hamstring injury limited him to just the first eight games of the season. The Cowboys added guard Tyler Booker in the first round of the draft and he's expected to step into the starting lineup along with recently-acquired receiver George Pickens. The NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl drought — they haven't been back since 1995 — hangs over the franchise. Can Dallas make magic happen this season in a division that sent both teams to the NFC title game? Come back Wednesday night for the Cowboys' week-to-week schedule, plus season analysis and predictions.
