Malaysia to keep strengthening role as global halal hub, says Mohd Sabu
The Agriculture and Food Security Minister said the abattoir is the region's only halal-accredited facility and is renowned for producing halal Kobe beef.

"This visit offers us a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insights into the best practices of the Japanese halal meat industry, covering processing methods, hygiene standards, traceability systems, and the use of modern technology that complies with food safety requirements,' he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (June 4).
He also expressed his appreciation to the management of Sanda Shokuniku Kosha for their strong commitment to upholding international halal standards and enhancing the regional halal ecosystem.
He added that such strategic collaborations are vital in Malaysia's efforts to reinforce its position as a global halal hub.

In addition, Mohamad said that his ministry will continue to focus on empowering the ruminant industry this year, aligned with the Malaysia Madani approach, which emphasises sustainability, prosperity and creativity.
"We aim to increase local participation in this sector, leveraging modern technology and halal assurance as key foundations for success. Our goal is for Malaysians to be not only consumers but also leaders within the global halal value chain,' he said. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Artificial intelligence must remain an assistive tool rather than a decision-maker according to former Federal Court judge Tan Sri Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal. A clear risk-based approach is essential before adopting AI in judicial processes he emphasized. Singapore has already issued guidelines for AI use in courts he noted while the Philippines drafts its judiciary AI governance framework. Malaysia and other ASEAN members must follow suit with their own frameworks he urged. A framework ensuring responsible AI use requires risk assessments and mitigation measures he explained. AI use cases must undergo testing for bias, reliability and transparency before adoption he added. The Singapore Police Force uses AI in digital forensics to automatically sift seized devices for abuse material. This integration significantly improves investigation speed and accuracy he confirmed. AI deployment extends to Singapore's financial sector through the COSMIC platform he added. The Monetary Authority of Singapore launched COSMIC last year as a public-private data-sharing initiative. Major banks and financial institutions participate in this collaborative information sharing platform. AI analyses transaction patterns within COSMIC enabling proactive suspicious activity detection. Banks can flag concerning activities across institutions while safeguarding customer confidentiality he explained. Legislative changes support this initiative allowing information sharing strictly for crime prevention. The three-day ASEAN Law Forum featured fifty-eight speakers and moderators across fifteen sessions. Over three hundred participants from ASEAN and beyond attended the expert-led discussions. Malaysia enters phase two of water sector roadmap 2040 under 13MP
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is now moving into the second phase of the Water Sector Transformation Roadmap 2040 under the 13th Malaysia Plan to develop local technology that meets international standards. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof made this announcement during the opening ceremony of the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant. He stated that AIR2040 aims to ensure affordable, sufficient, clean and quality water supply for the people. The roadmap also serves as a national agenda to transform the water sector into a dynamic economic sector. It will drive development and innovation of local water technology through strategic collaboration. Fadillah highlighted the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant as proof of local capability in large-scale water infrastructure. The plant features modern water treatment technology meeting international standards. He acknowledged that such infrastructure projects involve high costs due to modern technology. Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad played the role of financier and implementer for this project. This enabled construction at more optimal costs compared to commercial financing. Fadillah serves as both Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation. Under national restructuring, PAAB manages financing for water supply infrastructure in participating states. The financing model allows water operators to focus on operation and maintenance. This ensures management efficiency within the water supply system. It also helps maintain resilient and stable financial positions for water operators. AIR2040 plans to introduce alternative financing to strengthen sector sustainability. This approach reduces dependence on government funds for water projects. The ministry is exploring alternative water sources like reclaimed water for industrial use. Non-food industrial applications such as data centers are being considered. PETRA is focusing on reducing Non-Revenue Water through the 13MP. The Critical Pipe Replacement Programme will address this issue nationwide. Holistic NRW solutions and rebates for meeting targets form part of this effort. The NRW rate is expected to drop to 28.8 percent by 2030 through these programmes. Cooperation with state governments will continue for planning new water infrastructure. This ensures water supply needs for domestic and industrial users are met. KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the success of the aspirations under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) at the local government level could only be achieved through close synergy between the Federal Government, state governments and local authorities (PBTs). He said state governments needed to strengthen their commitment to policy development and legal frameworks to empower PBTs, while the PBTs themselves should be agile, innovative and people-oriented implementers with clear well-being indicators. Fadillah said the private sector and communities would continue to serve as strategic partners in local development.
