Swindon golfers face crunch day in qualification for The Open Championship
On July 1, Matt Hibbs, from West Swindon, and Jake Bolton, who plays at Ogborne Down, will have the opportunity to seal their spots at the oldest golf tournament in the world, The Open Championship.

Hibbs, whose home club is The Manor House at Castle Combe, will take part in the qualifying event at Burnham and Berrow in Somerset.
The 26-year-old comes into the event on a good run of form from his normal play in tier one of the Clutch Pro Tour, having had a string of top ten finishes during 2025, including coming tied second at The Caddy Comps Open.
Bolton will also be at Burnham and Berrow on Tuesday, which is one of four events taking place for players to book their place at Royal Portrush.
Both players would be making their first Open Championship if they are able to edge out some big names in the golf world, like former Ryder Cup player Chris Wood, Brandon Robinson-Thompson, and Oliver Wilson.
This year will see the 153rd edition of The Open Championship, which has been running since 1860, and is one of the bucket list events for all golfers.
