Man Utd draw up unusual summer transfer plan in bid to fix PSR issue
Manchester United are adopting a new transfer approach and offering up academy players to other clubs. The Red Devils have compiled a list of their young players, all 18 or older, and provided teams the opportunity to sign their talent.
United are said to be willing to sell the players essentially for free with the caveat of high sell-on clauses being included in deals, the MEN reports. The news is reported to have come as a shock to some families and representatives, but United say players have been consulted.
Clubs are said to have been surprised the the names offered up. That has stemmed from the fact that the players' arrivals at Old Trafford came via sizeable transfer fees to land them.
The move comes as United seek to reform their approach to abiding by Profit and Sustainability rules. The club are attempting a new tactic in gaining transfer fees for players they do not believe will make it to the first-team.
United also suggest it is 'standard practice' to make decisions ono the futures of their academy products at 18. They affird players are within the rights to turn down moves.
The MEN add that significant changes are taking place at the club's academy. Some claim the desire to cut costs around the club has influenced decisions in the set-up.
The academy has also recently seen Manchester United legend Darren Fletcher take a new role. The ex-Scotland international is the new coach of the club's under-18s side, taking on his fifth different position at the club.
Fletcher has previously coached the under-16 side, doing so on his return to United in October 2020. The former midfielder has also seen roles of first-team coach and technical director in his second stint.
'I am really excited to take on this new role and increase my responsibility to directly develop our young players," said Fletcher. "I'm looking forward to working with such a talented age-group; supporting them to reach their potential and preparing them to enjoy careers at the highest level possible."
United's director of football Jason Wilcox added: 'We are delighted that Darren will lead our Under-18s group. He knows exactly what it takes to be a successful Academy graduate and has played a key role in shaping the pathway for so many of our young players in recent years.
'Darren's excellent relationships across the entire staff will only increase the strong connection between the Academy and first team, further enhancing our ability to produce world-class players ready to excel at Manchester United.'

Chelsea keen to sign '25-goal' Man Utd star after Xavi Simons
Chelsea are still targeting Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho this summer despite their plan to sign Xavi Simons, according to reports. The Blues are edging closer to a deal for Simons following the latest round of 'positive' discussions, which have 'accelerated' over the last few days. It had been suggested that Simons' possible arrival from RB Leipzig could see Chelsea cool their transfer interest in Garnacho. But Chelsea will not shut the door on a move for United star Garnacho if and when the Simons deal is completed, The Telegraph have reported. The Blues have long been linked to the Argentine and United are open to offloading the 21-year-old, who is thought to have a £40m price tag. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports Chelsea will make a move for Garnacho 'later in the window' once the Simons deal is done. Legendary former United midfielder Paul Scholes is worried Garnacho will 'end up scoring 25 to 30 goals' in the 2025-26 season if he joins Chelsea. 'He's perfect in a regular 4-3-3,' Scholes told TNT Sports in May. 'He will be a real threat. 'He needs to tidy up his decision-making and finishing, sometimes his final ball is a bit rash but he's a young player so that's to be expected. 'I fear we will see him for PSR (Profitability and Sustainability Rules) reasons. It's been rumoured, hasn't it? I fear he will end up scoring 25 to 30 goals for somebody else, that's how good I think this lad can be. 'Shoehorning him into this system might be tricky, I'm struggling to find a position for him in Ruben Amorim's system. 'I don't want them to sell him, I hate the thought of that, but I think they could do. I wouldn't like it. He frustrates me but he's often the biggest threat for Manchester United.' Meanwhile, former United defender Paul Parker says it is time for Garnacho to 'move on' from Old Trafford and find a new club. More Trending 'Sell the boy,' Parker said when asked Garnacho's future, speaking via 'He needs to move on… His end product is terrible, absolutely terrible. Living off shinning an overhead kick into the top corner against Everton. 'I wonder what kind of player he is. Not full of tricks, not that quick. I'm trying to figure out what his game is, I really don't know what his strengths are.' Ruben Amorim's dream Man Utd XI with Ollie Watkins joining another big signing
Manchester United are preparing for their first full season under Ruben Amorim and the Red Devils manager wants a new-look XI to turn their fortunes around and qualify for Europe We're approaching the final month of the summer transfer window and Manchester United still have plenty of work to do. The Red Devils got off to a lightning-fast start by signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves on the first day of the window, triggering his £62.5million release clause. Bryan Mbeumo's arrival, however, was much more complicated and Ruben Amorim had to be patient. Weeks of fraught negotiations with Brentford culminated in United agreeing to pay up to £71m for him last Monday. That takes the Red Devils' spending to £133.5m, a hefty sum in isolation but far behind the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. United don't have an unlimited budget, though. They're reliant on sales, with four members of Amorim's bomb squad - Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia - still at the club. But that hasn't stopped United from working on deals. Mirror Football understands that in their search for a new striker, Ollie Watkins has been identified as their No.1 target. Aston Villa insist that the 29-year-old isn't for sale at any price but Old Trafford chiefs are hoping to get a deal done for between £40m and £45m. They're not just focussed on attack, as at the other end, Amorim wants competition from Andre Onana. Royal Antwerp prospect Senne Lammens has been linked but now there's chance to sign one of the world's best. Gianluigi Donnarumma has reportedly been made available by Paris Saint-Germain, who've agreed a £34m deal for Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. Therefore, if United were able to make the finances work, they could offer the Italian - whose contract in Paris expires next summer - a move to the Premier League. Donnarumma would play behind a three-man defence, something which he's used to at international level. Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and the currently injured Lisandro Martinez are likely to be Amorim's preferred defensive trio. The wing-back positions are crucial for the Red Devils boss and it'll be a battle between Amad, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui on the right. As for the left-hand side, January signing Patrick Dorgu, Luke Shaw and teenager Diego Leon will compete. Where would Manchester United finish with this XI? Give us your prediction in the comments section. Bruno Fernandes, who snubbed a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer, is likely to move into a deeper role as a result of United's forward-heavy recruitment. Casemiro would be a stable partner for the big occasions but Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo each offer something different. Up front, it takes no working out. Should the Red Devils land Watkins, he'll reunite with former Brentford team-mate Mbeumo and play alongside Cunha in a Premier League-proven trident.
