Brotherly Bond Boosts Kurt Kitayama To 3M Open Win After DeChambeau Calls In Caddie

Bryson DeChambeau was more than 4,000 miles away from Minnesota during the final round of the 3M Open. Yet, the LIV golf star played a pivotal role in one of the weekend's main storylines at the TPC Twin Cities despite playing at the JCB Golf and Country Club in London.
It all started sometime last week, when DeChambeau's caddie, Greg Bodine, needed to miss the event in England due to personal issues. The two-time major champion was forced to make a call, and the recipient was none other than Tim Tucker, Kurt Kitayama's current caddie.
Naturally, DeChambeau's call to Tucker wasn't random. The two worked together from 2016 to 2021, during which time the player won eight times on the PGA Tour, including a major championship.
Nevertheless, when Tucker agreed to fill in for Bodine over the weekend, it was Kitayama who was left without a caddie. Fortunately, the 32-year-old also had an ace up his sleeve: his brother, Daniel.

Kurt Kitayama of the United States poses with the Elemental Swing trophy and his caddie Daniel Kitayama after putting in to win on the 18th green during the final round of the 3M Open 2025 at TPC Twin Cities on July 27, 2025 in Blaine, Minnesota. MoreThe move couldn't have worked out better. With his brother looking after his bag, he won the 3M Open after a sensational comeback. Kurt made the cut by just one stroke (6-under) but played the final 36 holes at 17-under to claim his second PGA Tour title.
It's also the third victory of his professional career with his brother as his caddie. This is no small feat, considering that Kitayama has only won five times since beginning his career in 2015.
"The caddie change wasn't my choice, actually," Kitayama said after his performance, according to the transcripts of the winner's press conference. "So, I had to find someone that I knew, I had to find someone that I trusted, and my brother's been on the bag before. We won twice in Europe."
"He's always been around me at tournaments and whenever he can, so I figured that was going to be the best fit to finish the season."

Kurt was very pleased with the outcome of working with his brother, something they have done intermittently over the years.
"He helped me stay calm out there, make good decisions, and yeah, just helps having family on the bag," he said, according to the transcripts. " ... This win's going to be extra special having him on the bag. Very cool experience and really happy he's part of it."
DeChambeau, meanwhile, finished tied for 11th at LIV Golf UK with Tucker carrying his bag.
The future of this situation has not yet been made public, although Kitayama hinted that his brother could also be at his side at the Wyndham Championship next week.

Chase for FedEx Cup top 50 is in on — and Jordan Spieth, Wyndham Clark have work to do

Keegan Bradley had his bags packed in his Memphis hotel room and was resigned to the fact that his 2024 FedEx Cup run was over. But he had his TV tuned to the live tournament coverage, his phone on the PGA Tour app's live scoring and his iPad streaming a featured hole. Still, he couldn't believe how the stars aligned perfectly for him. Or rather, how things came crashing down for Tom Kim, who finished bogey, double bogey, double bogey at TPC Southwind, dropping from 46th to 51st in the FedEx Cup standings and allowing Bradley to sneak in at No. 50. 'At the last minute, I texted my caddie, 'Dude, I think we're going to finish in the top 50. I don't see how we don't,' ' recounted Bradley, who hitched a ride to the next event with fellow pro Billy Horschel. 'I went to Denver with this real big sense of relief.' Bradley exhaled, and everything changed. He had guaranteed his entry into all eight signature events this season, while Kim was admitted into none. The following week? Bradley won the BMW, made his way to Atlanta for the Tour Championship, finishing T-21, and even parlayed his late-season success into a captain's pick for the U.S. Presidents Cup team. Such is the fine line that exists on the PGA Tour. Spieth, Clark, Lee teetering on top 50 While 70 players qualified for the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, everyone is hoping to pull a Keegan Bradley because the magic number this week is 50 – that's how many players will survive and advance to the BMW Championship, and, more importantly, secure all eight signature events in 2026. Some notable pros are under the gun to produce this week, including three-time major winner Jordan Spieth at No. 48 in the FedEx Cup standings, 2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, who enters the week at No. 49, and the 'Bubble Boy,' Min Woo Lee at 50. Spieth played last week in hopes of improving his position, but finished T-31 at the Wyndham Championship and only treaded water. He knows he's in for a stressful week and that he has work to do to avoid missing the BMW for a second straight year. 'I didn't like asking for exemptions this year at all. I was fortunate to receive a lot of them, but you just never know,' he said. 'And when you miss out on elevated events, the way it's structured, they've got the best players in the world at all of them and you don't want to miss any of them.' Clark is in the same boat. Since missing the cut at the U.S. Open, he has climbed from No. 80 to No. 49. He's finished T-17 or better in four of his last five starts, and his T-4 at the British Open was his best result of his season. Clark also has positive vibes at TPC Southwind, where he finished T-7 last year. He'll need no worse than to finish 68th this week and still has positioning for East Lake on his mind plus Ryder Cup hopes to play for too. Australia's Lee sits on the bubble at No. 50 and his game has been ice cold since his win at the Children's Hospital Houston Open in late March. He missed the cut at the last three majors and has failed to record a top 10 since his win. Poston, Finau among those looking to climb Among those on the outside looking in are J.T. Poston, who has qualified for the BMW in each of the last three years, starts the week at No. 51. He's only recorded one top-10 finish all season and his seven top 25s are his fewest since 2020-21. Tony Finau at No. 60 is looking to stretch his streak of eight straight trips to East Lake for the Tour Championship, but he has work to do, as does Rickie Fowler at No. 64, who needs no worse than a T-17 finish. 'Good golf solves a lot of things,' he said. And that's what it takes to make it this far and beyond. 'It's becoming as challenging as ever to qualify for the playoffs and then BMW and Tour Championship, so, it's truly the best fields we can get in terms of who has played the best over the course of the whole season and I'm ready to get going,' said Justin Thomas, who enters the week at No. 5 in the standings. By Sunday, some players will rise to the occasion, others will benefit from some Keegan Bradley-like luck, and inevitably, there will be a player who experiences a Tom Kim-like meltdown. Last week, that player was Keith Mitchell, who made a 4-putt double bogey and missed a 7-foot putt on his final hole during the second round of the Wyndham Championship to miss the cut. He failed to make it to Memphis, but he succeeded in summing up how it hurts to come up just short of a season-long goal. "Gave it my all this year, probably too much, loads of pressure on myself to make the playoffs and top 50,' he said. 'We fight and fight and grind to give it our all and to finish like that is really just heartbreaking."

Steelers Receiver Gets Wake Up Call From Aaron Rodgers

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Pittsburgh Steelers legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers is heading into the final season of his illustrious NFL career. He's hoping to end his career on top of the league with a storybook run to the Super Bowl. In order to make that kind of run, the future Hall of Fame quarterback is going to need the offense to step up around him. Granted, Rodgers is no longer the elite superstar that he once was. However, he's still more than capable of playing at a high level and leading a team to potential contention. Photo byLast season with the New York Jets, Rodgers showed that he still has it. He completed 63 percent of his pass attempts for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. His numbers were still better than many quarterbacks around the league. Read more: Browns HC Makes Major QB Announcement At the top of the Steelers' wide receiver depth chart is DK Metcalf. He was acquired in a blockbuster offseason trade to give Rodgers an elite No. 1 weapon. That being said, there are some major questions at wide receiver behind Metcalf. Currently, Pittsburgh has Calvin Austin II, Robert Woods, and Roman Wilson as its next best options. Those three players could be quality targets for Rodgers, but that is not a proven concept at this point in time. With that in mind, Rodgers spoke out on Wednesday and sent a very pointed message to Wilson. "I need to get Roman out of his own head a bit," Rodgers said. "He cares so much about whether it's my approval or he's doing it right. He's just got to trust himself because he's so damn talented." Obviously, that is not the kind of quote that a young wideout wants to hear from Rodgers. The veteran quarterback has always had some level of frustration with young wide receivers dating back to his time with the Green Bay Packers. Read more: Davante Adams Casts Doubt on Travis Hunter's NFL Future Wilson will need to figure out his issues and play at a high level or risk losing playing time. The Steelers have a one-year window with Rodgers and they will do whatever it takes to compete for a championship in 2025. Perhaps the team could still look into signing a free agent like Amari Cooper. Or, if they choose to stick with the group they've put together, they need Wilson to step up. Right now, it sure doesn't sound like Rodgers is incredibly happy with where his connection is at with the young wideout. FedEx St. Jude Championship matchup, prop picks: Justin Thomas or Russell Henley?

The FedExCup Playoffs are set with the top 70 players in the year-long standings vying to win the Tour Championship at East Lake in a few weeks. Things kick off on Thursday with the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first leg of the playoffs at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn. Below, we search for the best value prop bets for the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship from BetMGM Sportsbook's odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions. There are 70 players in the FedExCup Playoffs, but only 69 are playing this week because Rory McIlroy is skipping the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The top 50 players in the standings after this week will advance to the BMW Championship, with McIlroy already locking up a spot in the top 50. Scottie Scheffler is the favorite to win in Memphis at +300, with Xander Schauffele (+1400) coming in as the second-favorite. Tommy Fleetwood (+2200), Justin Thomas (+2500) and Ludvig Aberg (+2500) are among the top contenders to win, as well. TPC Southwind is a difficult course that plays at 7,288 yards as a par 70, featuring water hazards throughout the property. The winning score has been between 13-under and 17-under each year since 2019, with this being the fourth year as a FedExCup Playoffs event on the calendar. FedEx St. Jude Championship – Top-5 picks Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 7:37 p.m. ET. Hovland has contended here in recent years, finishing second in 2024, 13th in 2023 and 20th in 2022. That's a testament to his ball-striking, which gives him a big advantage with how well he hits his irons. Thomas won this event in 2020 before it was a playoff event, so he knows how to take care of business at TPC Southwind. Since 2019, he also has finishes of 12th, 13th and 26th, showing his victory was no fluke. FedEx St. Jude Championship – Top-10 picks It's hard to bet Fleetwood to win at this point after seeing him give away the Travelers Championship in June, but this course is perfect for him. He's finished third, fourth and 22nd in 3 of his 5 starts since 2019, coming close to winning here in the past. Straka is as good an iron player as there is right now so he's someone to take seriously at a course like TPC Southwind. He finished second in 2022 when he lost in a playoff to Will Zalatoris, nearly taking home the title that week. Berger's coures history is the best of any player in the field, winning in 2016 and 2017, with finishes of second and fifth in 2020 and 2021, respectively. His lone hiccup was a missed cut in 2018, but other than that, he's been lights out in his last 5 starts here. FedEx St. Jude Championship – Top-20 picks Spieth must kick things into gear now and TPC Southwind is a good place for him to get going, having come in 12th in 2019, 12th in 2021 and sixth in 2023. He struggled here last year but if he can dial in his irons, he'll have a chance to contend. Im was sixth in 2023 and 12th in 2022 at this event, playing well 2 years in a row at TPC Southwind. It's been a disappointing year for him in 2025, but he did show signs of improvement last week with a T-27 at the Wyndham Championship. Rose can never be counted out at this point in his career, especially at a place where he's come in 22nd and 20th the last two years, with an 11th-place showing in 2019. He nearly won the Masters and finished 16th at the Open Championship, so he's been in good form. WATCH: Get ESPN+ FedEx St. Jude Championship – Matchups Suggested play is golfer in bold. Justin Thomas (+105) vs. Russell Henley (-135) Thomas is a former champion and could be poised to go on a run in the playoffs. His worst finish in this event since 2019 is 26th, so his floor should be fairly high. FedEx St. Jude Championship – Top English Fleetwood is the favorite in this market over Matt Fitzpatrick (+250) and Aaron Rai (+300), and he should be. He's played great all year and while he doesn't have a win, he has been in contention. FedEx St. Jude Championship – Top Korean It's Im vs. Si Woo Kim (-125) in this market as the only two Koreans in the field. Take the underdog Im at a course where he's played well before. FedEx St. Jude Championship – First-round leader Fleetwood fired rounds of 66 and 66 in the last two years to open this event, so he's been close to claiming the first-round lead each time. He's comfortable at TPC Southwind and could be in for a big week. Play our free daily Pick'em Challenge and win! Play now! For more sports betting picks and tips, check out and BetFTW.
