Milind Deora slams Thackeray family: 'They were vacationing in Europe when Pahalgam...'
Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora on Sunday claimed Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray was vacationing in Europe with his family when the Pahalgam terror attack took place last month.
Deora said the Thackerays had transformed into tourists of India from being the sons of the soil. He claimed the family was absent during Maharashtra Day as well.
"From sons of the soil to tourists of India--how far the Thackerays have fallen. While bullets flew in Pahalgam, they were vacationing in Europe. On Maharashtra Day, they vanished without a word. No statement. No solidarity. No shame," Deora posted on X.
He said the party's leadership had been practising what he called "luxury politics". He lauded the leadership of Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde for standing with the victims of the Pahalgam attack.

Deora said that the state needed warriors on duty and not "part-time netas".
"This isn't leadership – it's luxury politics. In contrast, DCM Eknath Shinde led from the front, stood with the victims and honoured our heroes. Maharashtra needs warriors on duty, not part-time Netas on holiday," Deora said.
Twenty-six people, mostly tourists, died after terrorists opened fire at a meadow near Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam town. India has taken several punitive actions against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and trade, and downgrading diplomatic ties. India also curtailed the number of staff in Pakistani high commissions and suspended visa services.
All Pakistani nationals had been asked to vacate India after the latter revoked their visas.
The opposition has unanimously backed the government for whatever actions it takes against Pakistan.
Milind Deora criticised the opposition after the Congress party's 'Gayab' (missing) jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the leaders of hypocrisy and indirectly giving a clean chit to Pakistan despite earlier backing the Centre's stance in an all-party meeting.
"After the Pahalgam attack, the Centre called an all-party meeting in which almost all parties said that they are with the government in the action it wants to take against Pakistan and terrorists. Soon after, some opposition parties that had supported the Centre in the all-party meeting made a different statement. Some of them are saying that there should be no war against Pakistan, and some of them have given Pakistan a clean chit," he told ANI.

Govt appoints RBI DG T Rabi Sankar as 16th FinComm member
New Delhi, Jun 7 (PTI) RBI Deputy Governor T Rabi Sankar has been appointed as a part-time member of the 16th Finance Commission, the finance ministry said on Saturday. The appointment, the ministry said, is consequent to the resignation of one of the full-time members, former finance secretary Ajay Narayan Jha, on personal grounds. "The President has appointed T Rabi Sankar, Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as a part-time Member of the 16th Finance Commission (XVIFC)," the ministry said in a statement. Sankar will hold office from the date of assuming charge until the submission of the Commission's Report or October 31, 2025, whichever is earlier, it added. The commission, chaired by former vice chairman of Niti Aayog Arvind Panagariya, has four members and is assisted by Secretary Ritvik Pandey, two joint secretaries and one economic advisor. Retired bureaucrat Annie George Mathew and economist Manoj Panda are full-time members of the commission, while SBI Group Chief Economic Advisor Soumya Kanti Ghosh is a part-time member. The government constituted the 16th Finance Commission under the chairmanship of Panagariya on December 31, 2023. The panel would submit its report to the President by October 31, 2025. The report would be for five years commencing April 1, 2026. Besides suggesting tax devolution between the Centre and states and revenue augmentation measures, the commission will review the present arrangements for financing disaster management initiatives with reference to the funds constituted under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. The Finance Commission is a constitutional body to provide suggestions on centre-state financial relations. The erstwhile 15th Finance Commission under NK Singh had recommended that states be given 41 per cent of the divisible tax pool of the Centre during the five-year period 2021-22 to 2025-26, which is at the same level as was recommended by the 14th Finance Commission under YV Reddy.

YouTuber Jasbir Singh's police remand extended by two days in spying case
A Mohali court on Saturday extended for two days the police remand of Punjab-based YouTuber Jasbir Singh, who was arrested on espionage charges on June 4. Jasbir Singh was produced before the court after his three-day police remand ended on Saturday. Police sought a seven-day remand but the court granted them two days, his counsel said. Jasbir Singh was in touch with influencer Jyoti Malhotra, who is in custody on charges of spying for Pakistan, and after his arrest the police had said that it had unearthed a terror-backed espionage network linking him to Pakistani intelligence and army officials. The police had said that the YouTuber was allegedly spying for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Jasbir Singh, alias Jaan Mahal, 41, a resident of Mahlan village in Rupnagar district, was running a YouTube channel JaanMahal Video with over 11 lakh subscribers, ostensibly posting travel and cooking vlogs. He was found to be associated with a Pakistani Intelligence Operative (PIO), was in contact with a Pakistan High Commission official who was recently expelled from New Delhi on charges of spying and had met Pakistan army officials during one of his three visits to the neighbouring country, police had earlier alleged. He was found to be associated with PIO Shakir, alias Jatt Randhawa, part of a terror-backed espionage network. The accused had also travelled to Pakistan in 2020, 2021 and 2024, and came into contact with ISI officers, who subsequently cultivated and recruited him to carry out espionage activities within India, the police had said. Hisar native Jyoti Malhotra, 33, who was running the YouTube channel, Travel with JO, was arrested last month. On May 13, India had expelled Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, who was posted at the Pakistan High Commission, for allegedly indulging in espionage. Malhotra was allegedly in touch with Danish since November 2023.

‘We look to the future, not past': Sanjay Raut amid Sena (UBT)-MNS alliance buzz
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said Saturday that his party is focused on building the future, not dwelling on past differences, amid growing speculation of a possible alliance with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). 'Those who wish to take positive steps do not look back. We look to the future. How long are you going to dwell on the past?' Raut told reporters in Mumbai, urging MNS leaders to forget rifts in the past and look at the future of the two parties. The MP's comments come on the heels of Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray's recent admission that informal talks are underway with the Raj Thackeray-led MNS, a statement that has revived hopes of a political rapprochement nearly two decades after they split. Meanwhile, the Sena (UBT)'s mouthpiece Saamana on Saturday carried photographs of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray together on its front page—an image not seen in party media for years. This came even as posters featuring the two leaders together, calling for unity, were spotted in parts of Mumbai and Thane. Party workers from both sides are reportedly behind the campaign, urging the cousins to 'unite for the Marathi cause.'
