Two booked for beating dog to near-death, seven-month-old canine critical
Two persons have been booked for allegedly trapping a pet dog inside a bag and beating it to near-death with sticks, pipes and stones, the Lashkar police said on Wednesday.
The brutality occurred at around 11 pm on Sunday, April 20, near Dinshaw Opticians Camp on M G Road when the seven-month-old Indie pet dog of a small-time vendor, Ajna Mahadev Bhale, was brutally beaten with wooden sticks, pipes and stones because it was barking. The accused, identified as Nabil Shaikh and Sufiyan, along with two other unidentified men beat the dog named 'Biddha' mercilessly because it was barking. When Bhale intervened and told them not to beat his dog, they abused and threatened to kill him, continuing to beat the canine. Biddha sustained grievous injuries and was taken in a critical condition to Mission Possible Foundation for treatment by Sunny Vijay Shinde. Animal activist and founder of Mission Possible Foundation, Padmini Stump, lodged a complaint on Monday, April 21, at Lashkar police station.
Stump said, 'The beating did not stop even after the canine went into coma, bleeding heavily. From this merciless torture, we know what kind of human beings these people are. Their actions speak volumes.'
'Not only did they beat the dog to death almost, they threatened a teenage kid that if he opened his mouth, they would kill him as well,' Stump said.
Girishkumar Dighavkar, senior police inspector, Lashkar police station, said that the accused have been booked under section 11 (1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 along with sections 351 (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) with the latter specifically criminalising killing, maiming, poisoning or rendering animals useless.
According to the police, the condition of the dog is critical; one of its eyes is damaged and several teeth are broken among others.

Delhi Police deports 134 illegal Bangladeshi nationals through multiple drives
New Delhi [India], June 11 (ANI): The South District Police of Delhi have deported a total of 134 Bangladeshi nationals, including 38 women and 43 children, following 14 intensive enforcement drives conducted between December 27, 2024, and June 10, 2025, according to a release on Wednesday. According to the release, the operation, aimed at addressing growing concerns over unauthorised foreign nationals, involved multiple teams targeting slums and suspected areas to verify voter IDs and Aadhaar cards for identifying illegal immigrants. Responding to escalating concerns about the unauthorised stay of Bangladeshi migrants, the South District Police launched a sustained campaign, leveraging local intelligence networks, sensitised informants, and developed human intelligence to trace and apprehend those residing illegally. Efforts also focused on mapping and monitoring entry routes commonly exploited by undocumented immigrants entering India. Special Operation Units and Police Stations worked in close coordination, gathering actionable intelligence that led to swift detentions of individuals overstaying visas or lacking valid travel documents. The successful drives included several key arrests under specific cases. Five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested at PS Sangam Vihar under Sections 318(2)/319(2)/337/61(1)(A) of BNS and 34 Aadhar Act. Two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested at PS Fatehpur Beri under Sections 318(2)/139(2)/61(1)(A) of BNS, the 14 Foreigner Act and the 34 Aadhar Act. Eight Bangladeshi nationals were arrested at PS Lodhi Colony under Sections 318(2)/319(2)/337 of the BNS, the 14 Foreigners Act, and the 34 Aadhar Act and one Bangladeshi national at PS Maidan Garhi under Section 25/54/59 of the Arms Act. The police have appealed to the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals suspected of illegal stay in their vicinity, with a statement assuring that information provided to local police will be treated confidentially and may prevent unlawful activities. Residents' Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Market Welfare Associations (MWAs) have been urged to support law enforcement by spreading awareness and cooperating in verification drives to maintain safe and law-abiding neighbourhoods. Vasai revenue officials file FIR against 28 ready mix cement plants
VASAI : The Vasai revenue officials have filed an FIR against 28 ready mix cement (RMC) plant owners for polluting the environment, deteriorating the water quality and operating without any permissions at the Naigaon police station last week. It was the revenue officials who filed a complaint while the implementing and supervising body, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) was found napping. The activists were upset that it was the revenue official who took the pain while it was the basic job of the MPCB. Apart from polluting the environment the RMC trucks are often seen driving on the wrong side, day and night, on the Mumbai Ahmedabad national highway (NH48) without any fear from the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) cops or the Highway police. The FIR filed on May 7 has been filed under the BNS sections 223 (disobedience to orders issued by public servants), 270 (public nuisance) and 279 (offences concerning the quality of public water sources). The FIR also mentions that these 28 RMC plants and Dambur Plants (Asphalt plants or Asphalt mixing plants) are the source of pollution for Air and Water. The FIR clearly mentions that the effluent generated by these RMC plants have been openly discharged in the water bodies further deteriorating the potable quality of streams and ponds, used on a daily basis by the locals and the villagers. Sushil Morale, Talathi (revenue official) said that on April 22 2025, we conducted survey of RMC and Dambur plants in two villages - Sasunavghar & Maljipada, in Vasai Taluka, after orders from our Tehsildar Avinash Koshti, as he had received several complaints about illegally operated RMC plants and pollution arising from them. He also said that these 28 units didnt produce any documents showcasing permissions from various government agencies who issue permissions to operate these units. We also gave them two weeks, but since they didnt turn-up with legal documents, we proceeded with the FIR. Now they will have to produce those documents to the cops post which their legality would be exposed. Deepak Rao, an activist in Vasai, who has filed PIL's regarding safeguarding the reclaimed waterbodies and escalating issues like illegal construction on forest land, said that, this was the job of the MPCB and not the revenue officials. What checks does the MPCB have in place while other government agency filed FIR against RMC's for polluting the environment, he questioned. We have acted on 20 RMC plants in MBMC and VVCMC jurisdiction in the last eight months and this is an ongoing activity, said Kiran Hasabnis, Regional Officer, MPCB, Thane. Filing FIR against 28 polluting units in one single day and taking action against 20 RMC units in eight months only speaks about the lackadaisical approach of the MPCB, added Deepak. In the first week of May, two natives from Uttar Pradesh had died after falling into a well, 30-feet deep, at a RMC unit located at Naigaon. The Naigaon cops had registered an accidental death report (ADR) in that case and have said that the investigation is still on.
