OpenAI expands AI for Impact Accelerator Program in India with 11 non-profits
OpenAI has announced the next phase for their global AI for Impact Accelerator Program to India under which they will provide a fresh round of API credits to 11 select nonprofit organisations. The program was a part of the AI firm's OpenAI Academy umbrella and brings the total value of their technical grants to $150,000. The initiative is a collaboration between OpenAI and philanthropic bodies including The Agency Fund, Tech4Dev and and offers hands-on technical support, cohort-based learning and early access to OpenAI tools. The chosen organisations include Udhyam Learning Foundation for education, agricultural nonprofit, Precision Development, Noora Health that works on patient recovery and Rocket Learning which helps educate marginalised communities. The program aligns with the goals of the IndiaAI Mission that intends to democratise AI access, foster an AI ecosystem and enable AI solutions for India. 'With the support of OpenAI Academy, we built Myna Bolo, a hyper-local, culturally sensitive chatbot offering 24/7 reproductive health guidance to women in underserved communities. Leveraging OpenAI's advanced language models and our grassroots network, we've reached hundreds of women with personalized, stigma-free support in local languages, helping them ask the questions they otherwise wouldn't voice. This is a pivotal step in building a trusted, AI-powered health infrastructure for and by the women we serve,' said Suhani Jalota, Founder Myna Manila Foundation. Morgan Stanley bull has this prediction for Elon Musk's EV company Tesla
Morgan Stanley auto analyst Adam Jonas has predicted that Elon Musk may be "tempted to solve" another "problem" by leveraging Tesla's expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), batteries and manufacturing. As per Jones, the problem is "commercialising air taxis," also known as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles. In his latest research note, Jonas argued that Tesla may enter the nascent eVTOL market as these aircraft have long been predicted to revolutionise urban transport, yet even leading developers like Archer Aviation are still in the developmental phase. Last week, Archer's Midnight prototype, slated for its first deliveries later this year to Abu Dhabi, successfully completed a piloted flight test. Tesla may not be interested in eVTOL anytime soon According to a report by Fortune, while Jonas believes that solving this technological challenge aligns with the interests of Tesla engineers, he acknowledged that Tesla has indicated it is currently too stretched to seriously consider an eVTOL venture, without outright refuting the idea. The US government is reportedly keen on supporting the growth of flying cars. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy posted this week, "eVOTLs [sic] are going to fundamentally transform how the public travels. Let's make sure the US leads the way." Why eVTOL market may not a profitable bet yet Currently, the eVTOL market faces significant hurdles. Several promising startups, including Lilium and Volocopter, have encountered financial difficulties before establishing commercially viable services. A key challenge in achieving stringent safety standards while ensuring full autonomy, as scaling the business typically requires removing costly pilots from the equation. Additionally, there aren't enough customers with pilot licenses to support widespread adoption.

Tesla's UK car sales drop over 45% in May, New AutoMotive early data shows
Tesla's new car sales in Britain tumbled more than 45% from a year earlier in May, preliminary data from research group New AutoMotive showed on Wednesday. The automaker, which has been losing market share in part because of CEO Elon Musk's embrace of far-right politics in Europe, sold 1,758 units in Britain last month, down from 3,244 a year earlier, the data showed. Yet, Tesla remained the best-selling battery electric vehicle in Britain so far this year. Overall new car registrations in the UK increased 4.3% to 144,098 units in May, according to New AutoMotive, with BEV sales rising 28% year-on-year. Among Chinese rivals, BYD more than doubled its new car sales in the UK to 1,388 units during the month.
