‘Around 1,100 arrested in drug-related offences': Delhi CM Rekha Gupta
NEW DELHI: Around 1,100 people have been arrested for drug-related offences in the last four to five months, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Thursday. FIRs have been filed, large quantities of drugs have been seized and many addicted individuals have been sent to rehabilitation centres.
Addressing an event at the Yamuna Sports Complex on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Gupta praised the law enforcement agencies for their efforts but stressed that public support is equally crucial to curb the menace.
She further emphasised that the Prime Minister has laid out a national vision to make India drug-free by 2047 and the Delhi government is resolute in carrying out every responsibility towards achieving this goal. She said, 'When India celebrates 100 years of independence in 2047, we must be able to present it as a healthy, empowered and drug-free nation.'

New Delhi [India], June 27 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday inaugurated the Narela bus depot and flagged off 100 electric buses, which will operate on nine routes across the national capital. Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister reiterated the government's commitment to modernising the public transport system and affirmed the goal of revamping Delhi's bus services and 'bringing them back on track.' 'Today we have inaugurated the Narela Bus Depot and dedicated 100 Devi electric buses, which will operate on nine routes... These are equipped with excellent depot was completed in just 3 months. Our goal is to transition Delhi's public transport system to an electric mode, update the transport system, and ensure minimal inconvenience to the public,' the Chief Minister told reporters after the inauguration. She was accompanied by Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Yogendra Chandolia. Earlier, BJP MP Yogendra Chandolia mentioned that the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government has kept rural areas in mind and has also contributed to helping save the environment with the newly inaugurated electric buses. 'Keeping the rural areas of Delhi in mind, the Rekha Gupta government of Delhi has established a DTC depot here, and 105 small buses will be dispatched from here. This is the Delhi government's contribution to saving Delhi's environment. These are electric buses, and women will travel for free on these buses. These small buses will address the problem of traffic jams,' he said. He also mentioned the goal of full electrification of buses while taking a shot at the Aam Aadmi Party for spreading lies and not doing work for the people of Delhi, 'In the coming times, all buses in Delhi will be electric to improve Delhi's environment... They (Aam Aadmi Party) have nothing but lies; if they had worked on time, they would not be in the opposition today...' On World Environment Day (June 5), CM Gupta had announced that 280 electric buses would be added to Delhi's fleet by 2027 as part of a comprehensive electric vehicle (EV) policy. Speaking to ANI, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said earlier, 'We have decided to give 280 electric buses to Delhi. By 2027, the whole fleet of buses provided by the Delhi government will be electric. We are also bringing in a new EV policy.' Rally in Belagavi against drug abuse
The police organised a rally to create awareness against drug abuse to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Belagavi on Thursday. A large number of students, NGO members and officers participated in the rally that began at the Rani Channamma Circle and ended at KLE Centenary Hall. They carried placards and raised slogans against drug abuse during their rally. Police Commissioner Borasae Bhushan Gulabrao, who flagged off the rally, said that the city police are adopting a zero tolerance policy against drug abuse. He said that special teams have been formed to trace and arrest those related to drug peddling. He said that he and his officers will soon visit schools and colleges to organise awareness creation programmes. The rally was organised in association with Jain International Trade Organisation and Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) Belagavi unit. Deputy Drug Controller M. Nagaraj, Assistant Drug Controllers K. Mallikarjun, Raghuram Nidavanda and M. Manohar and Drug Inspector Renu Prasad and M. Awareness rally marks International Day against Drug Abuse in Yadgir
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in Yadgir on Thursday through an awareness rally taken out from Subhas Chandra Chowk to Lumbini Garden and staging a drama there. The programme was organised by the Home Department. Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela, who participated as chief guest in the rally, said that consumption of drugs not only impacts human beings but also is against the interests of the nation. 'Good habits can bring good changes among human beings. A bad habit like consumption of drugs and alcohol will damage the human body. We all should stand against such activities and protect valuable lives for the future,' Dr. Susheela said. Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar said that now-a-days people claiming to be from reputed families are consuming drugs and material that intoxicate to beat stress and for temporary satisfaction. The Home Department is taking strict steps to prevent drug menace. 'Nevertheless, the general public can raise complaints through an app developed by the department,' Mr. Shankar said. Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat Lavish Ordia also spoke about people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs avoiding family and friends. Proper vigilance is needed to prevent them from such addiction, he added. Kumari Shilpa performed yogasanas, while a drama was staged to create awareness against drugs. District Health Officer Mahesh Biradar, physician Veeresh Jaka, Senior Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations Department Suleman Nadaf, Deputy Director of Mines and Geology Purnima, Deputy Superintendents of Police Bharat Kumar and Javeed Inamdar, Raju Bavihalli and others were present.
