Chinese Siblings Fighting For Father's Rs 3.6 Crore Property Discover Both Are Adopted
According to a report in the South China Morning Post, Sun, the family head, died in March 2025. Before his death, he transferred ownership of the Rs 3.6 crore property solely to his son. Mr Sun also instructed his son to provide "reasonable compensation" to his daughter, who was adopted by him and his wife in 1966.
"Our daughter is adopted, but we have always treated her as our own. In our later years, it was our son who took care of us. We gave the house to him, and he intends to compensate his sister. We hope you two can get along like true siblings," the statement read.
The adopted daughter protested against the decision, arguing that the property transfer contract bore only the father's signature, implying that her mother's share should still be included in the estate.
"Since the contract was signed only by him, my mother's share should be treated as part of the inheritance. This house was given to me by my parents, no one is taking it from me," she said.
The dispute then turned into a legal battle at the Nankai District People's Court in Tianjin. In the court, the sister presented new evidence claiming that her brother's household registration documents were marked "adopted", proving he was not a biological child.
The settlement
Soon after the revelation, the brother broke down in the court but insisted that his sister had not been in the family picture since the 1990s. As per him, a property dispute decades ago led to his sister severing ties with the family, leaving him to take care of their parents until their deaths.
The judge overseeing the case noted that the property was legally transferred and notarised in 2007, meaning it was no longer part of the inheritance estate. After some back and forth between the siblings, a settlement was reached.
The property would stay with the brother, who would have to pay his sister Rs 66 lakh (550,000 yuan) in compensation.
Social media users reacting to the verdict said that both kids were adopted, but the boy was kept in the dark about it while the daughter knew, which may have led to the rift.

Bangladeshi actress caught in Kolkata, cops find 2 Aadhaar cards, other Indian documents on her
A 28-year-old Bangladeshi woman, Shanta Paul, who police say is an actress and model by profession, has been arrested by the Lalbazar Detective Department in Kolkata for allegedly possessing Indian identity documents such as Aadhaar and voter ID cards. According to police sources, Paul has won several modelling contests in Bangladesh and had been living at a rented apartment in Bijoygarh, Jadavpur, since 2023. She was arrested by officers from Park Street police station. During the arrest and subsequent search of her residence, the police recovered multiple identity documents, including an admit card of Bangladeshi secondary examination, an airline ID issued in Bangladesh, and two Aadhaar cards—one registered in Kolkata, and the other in Bardhaman. The police said the Bardhaman Aadhaar card was issued in 2020. Paul, who had recently filed a fraud complaint at the Thakurpukur Police Station, listed a different address there. According to investigators, she frequently shifted addresses and lived under different identities. Her involvement in an app-cab business reportedly brought her under the scanner. Police sources said Paul could not provide a satisfactory explanation about the origin of the Indian documents. Investigators suspect a larger racket may be involved and are probing how the documents were obtained and which supporting documents were used. Lalbazar has contacted the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the Election Commission, and the State Food Department to verify the authenticity of the Aadhaar, voter ID, and ration card. Her original residence is in Barisal, Bangladesh. Paul was produced before a court on Wednesday and has been remanded to police custody till August 8. Her husband, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, is also under investigation, as are her parents, who were staying with her in the south Kolkata flat. A male companion is being questioned, though no evidence has been found against him yet. In 2019, Paul participated in the Miss Asia Global competition held in Kerala. In earlier media interviews in North Bengal, she said she was working in Bengali and Telugu films.

Not investigating any irregularities in Indiabulls, found no wrong: CBI tells SC
NEW DELHI: The CBI on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that it was not investigating any irregularities in Indiabulls Housing Finance Limited (IHFL), now known as Sammaan Capital Limited , and has not found any wrong in the company disbursing loans to corporate entities. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi was told by Additional Solicitor General SV Raju that the probe agency has not found anything with regard to allegations of Indiabulls allegedly disbursing dubious loans to corporate entities. Senior advocates Harish Salve and Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the company promoters, said that these are fictitious allegations and the petitioner NGO Citizens Whistle Blower Forum has withdrawn several petitions on the issue. The bench said allegations are allegations and whether they are right or wrong will be looked into. The top court adjourned the hearing on the plea due to paucity of time. On July 21, the top court pulled up the CBI for not appearing in a matter against Indiabulls despite notice. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for Citizens Whistle Blower Forum in which he is a trustee, had earlier alleged that Indiabulls, a non-banking financial company, used to disburse thousands of crores as loans to companies, which in turn used to pay hundred of crores of rupees to its promoters as unsecured loans. "This is a scam and even the Enforcement Directorate has said in their affidavit that they are aware of hanky panky in the company but are investigating it. Similarly, the SEBI has said they inquired into the matter but they are not the competent authority to investigate the issue and were forwarding the matter to relevant agencies," Bhushan had said. The petitioner NGO alleged IBHFL and its owners were advancing dubious loans to companies owned by large corporate groups which in turn were routing the money back to the accounts of companies owned by the promoters of Indiabulls to increase their personal wealth. Earlier, ASG Raju, appearing for the Enforcement Directorate, had submitted that the agency was investigating the matter and as far as CBI goes there ought to be a formal complaint and could only investigate if the states granted consent. On May 13, the top court sought response of the CBI on the plea which has challenged the February 2, 2024 order of the high court. The top court has noted the submission of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and the Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) that irregularities were committed in IHFL. The ED accused IHFL of committing some irregularities in the two cases it probed, including the one in Maharashtra where public money was allegedly siphoned off outside the country by cheating investors of around Rs 300 crore.
