‘India Post can be world's largest logistics network': Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia
Speaking at gramin dak sevaks' sammelan here, he urged postal employees to work towards making India Post the largest logistics organisation in the world.
Around 800 gramin dak sevaks participated in the sammelan organised by Karnataka Postal Circle. Fifteen sevaks from across Karnataka were felicitated on the occasion.
Highlighting the vast reach of India Post, Scindia said it has 1.64 lakh points of presence from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Bharuch to Tawang, making it uniquely positioned to lead globally in logistics.He said postal employees should keep pace with technology and increase productivity. 'We have to make sure we are at the cutting edge. That means, we must change the way we work, think about innovation, and use technology effectively,' he added.
He said efforts are on to convert post offices into mall-like service centres, going beyond banking and postal functions.
Praising Karnataka's postal services, Scindia said, 'Today, postman/postwoman is not just a purveyor of mail, but also brings banks to homes. Karnataka Circle has performed well with 200 crore mails and parcels delivered every year.'
He visited Indian Telephone Industries Limited (ITI) and interacted with staff. He said, 'I think ITI is an institution that has contributed significantly to the telecom revolution in our country. Its adaptation and progress in manufacturing core telecom equipment such as radio access networks, routers, and PCB boards have been tremendous.'
Vandita Kaul, secretary, Department of Posts, lauded Karnataka Circle for its swift adoption of APT 2.0 and leadership in digital innovation, including strengthening the parcel network and promoting philately.

(@JM_Scindia/ANI) The initiative, announced in the presence of union communications minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, seeks to train over 2,000 students annually in emerging technologies, including 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), networking, and cybersecurity. 'Today the spotlight is on India. Not because we have the largest market in the world, but because we represent a significant opportunity. As close to 50% of the world's human resource talent resides in India. Today is the beginning of a new dawn,' said Scindia. The four companies are also expected to offer employment opportunities to students after they have completed their training at the institute. Apart from these four, Scindia hinted that many more companies such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Tejas Networks would alo enter into similar partnerships with the government. 'PM Modi ji has always had a vision of growing India into a vishwaguru (global teacher). From local to global, India will not just make in India, but make for the world,' added Scindia. The collaborations are part of the Department of Telecommunications' plan to establish a Telecom Innovation, Research and Training Centre (TIRTC) at BRBRAITT. Envisioned as a centre of excellence, TIRTC will focus on telecom-specific research and development, product innovation, and entrepreneurship, aligning with national programmes such as Digital India, Skill India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat. According to the MoUs signed, Ericsson will set up a 5G Centre of Excellence at BRBRAITT, offering training through its global Ericsson Educate platform. Qualcomm will establish a Qualcomm Institute to deliver advanced 5G and AI training, including internships, and sponsor training for the first 100 participants. Meanwhile, Cisco will expand its Networking Academy programme to strengthen skills in networking, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure, providing free online resources. Nokia will help create a 5G Centre of Excellence and an AI/ML Lab, training 300 students annually in 5G radio, core networks, and AI/ML applications, supported by the Telecom Sector Skill Council. According to the ministry, the courses would range from two-week modules to longer 84-hour programmes, with Phase 1 investments exceeding ₹1 crore. Telecom secretary Neeraj Mittal said the public-private partnership will not only train public sector staff and trainers, but also students and employees of telecom service providers through short-term, medium-term, and long-term courses. 'India stands at the cusp of a digital revolution, and our success will hinge on how well we skill our people. Skilling is not just about preparing for jobs. It's about empowering individuals and fostering innovation,' said Nitin Bansal, country head, Ericsson India.

India Post launches International Tracked Packet service for 45 countries
India Post has introduced its International Tracked Packet (ITP) service, designed to provide a fast, economical and reliable shipping solution for e-commerce exporters and individual customers looking to send consignments abroad. The service enables shipments to 45 countries, offering end-to-end tracking, competitive tariffs and simplified booking at post offices. With a general maximum weight limit of 2 kg to 5 kg, depending on the destination country, the ITP is particularly suited for small consignments in the cross-border trade segment, said a release. Features include a pick-up facility for registered customers, volume discounts for those availing advance deposit and shipment visibility throughout the delivery process. The training will be organised at the Bharat Ratna Bhim Rao Ambedkar Institute of Telecom Training (BRBRAITT) in Jabalpur. The agreements were signed in the presence of Union Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with officials from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), BSNL, and representatives of the companies, according to the government press release. Plan to establish telecom innovation and training centre The MoU is a part of the DoT plan to establish a Telecom Innovation, Research and Training Centre (TIRTC) at BRBRAITT.
