Netflix have made a huge announcement over 'addictive' crime thriller which will leave fans absolutely delighted.
One of the most popular shows on the major streaming platform released this year is officially renewed for a second season. Department Q will see a follow up instalment with the company finally giving the crime series the green light for another outing.
The binge worthy show is an adaptation of Jussi Adler-Olsen's series of novels, with the first season retelling its own version of the first book, called The Keeper of Lost Causes. It is not yet known, which if any, novel will be adapted for the second season.
Fans will probably expect that it will follow in sequence, and take on the tale told in the book The Absent One, which is the second out of the 10 total found in the Dept Q series.
However, one major change for the Netflix adaptation will continue into season two, as the series will continue to be set in Edinburgh. The production will also be filmed in the Scottish capital following on from the success in the first season.
Matthew Goode will return as DCI Carl Morck along with his team of misfits in his department, including fan favourites Alexej Manvelov as Akram and Leah Byrne as Rose alongside Jamie Sives as Hardy.
The first season sees Goode's Morck take over his own department. He begrudgingly accepts, feeling it to be somewhat of a PR stunt as he also deals with his past both at home and at work.
Charged with cases previously deemed unsolvable, this darkly humorous, propulsive show delivers all the pleasures of a procedural, taking us into the complex mysteries not just of the cases but of the detectives themselves.
Season one of Dept Q spent six weeks in the Global Top Ten shows on Netflix. Following the news, the show's director and writer Scott Frank, who is also behind hits such The Queen's Gambit and Godless, said: ' I'm grateful to the folks at Netflix, as well as our shining cast and crew, for once more risking their careers to enable my folly.'
Matthew Goode added: 'I'd like to thank Netflix for giving us the opportunity to further investigate Department Q's storylines. We have a wonderful cast and crew, headed by our resident genius Scott Frank. I cannot wait to read what comes from his magic quill!'
Season one boasts an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with it receiving high praise from critics and fans alike. One reviewer claimed: "What makes Dept Q stand out is its explosive plot twists. There's one in the opening scene and they continue to detonate, upending expectations."
Another penned: "Very British-TV in spirit, though set in Edinburgh, Netflix's Department Q is more than a serviceable crime thriller. It's an engaging watch, with the right amount of camaraderie, suspense, and mystery to keep you glued to the screen."
Fans are just as impressed, as one posted online: "A very strong contender for Best Show of 2025. An absolutely gripping crime thriller. The first and last scenes of the opening episode are both utterly shocking... if you're not hooked by then, check to see if you have a pulse."
Someone else shared: "I'll admit, Department Q starts off a bit slow and I wasn't immediately hooked. But once it finds its rhythm, this Nordic thriller becomes absolutely addictive. I ended up binge-watching the entire series in one day - something I haven't done in ages."

An Edinburgh tapas and wine restaurant was delighted to welcome a surprise celebrity visitor. Hollywood actor Bob Odenkirk visited the Scottish capital on Monday earlier this week, August 18. In the heart of the old town, PIGGS wine bar, which is famed for its authentic Spanish tapas, was delighted to welcome the Breaking Bad icon. Odenkirk played the role of Saul Goodman in the acclaimed television series, and Better Call Saul. He was snapped alongside staff, as writes Edinburgh Live. The restaurant posted the encounter on their social media, as they took to Instagram captioning the snap: "Breaking bread with Saul... turns out the only thing criminal was how good the wine was." Locals soon swarmed the post, including fans of both the restaurant and the star, as they expressed their excitement at the chance encounter which was shared to their 35.6k social media followers. One person commented: "Amazing. I love that dude and I love your restaurant." Meanwhile another remarked: "How lovely for him to see Scotland." And a third noted: "Lovely. All I can say is, I'd love to be there right now." Elsewhere, Odenkirk doesn't expect his character in Better Call Saul to become free from behind bars anytime soon. The Breaking Bad spin-off concluded three years ago. The series ran for six season on AMC from 2015 to 2022. It doesn't seem optimistic for fans about a revival for more episodes. However, Odenkirk said 'of course I would' when asked if he would reprise his role as the scam artist and lawyer Saul Goodman. 'That part turned my life around, and I've given more to that part than anything I've done,' he said on Today. 'Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould created that show. They are some of the best writers who ever worked in TV. So if they were to think of something in that world, of course I would do it.'

Gordon Cree will now perform regularly at Blackpool Tower Ballroom, something he could have only imagined when he was a child. Darvel's internationally renowned musician Gordon Cree became one of the resident organists at the famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Gordon said he feels "honoured" to have been asked to be part of a team of organists who play regularly in the ballroom on the historic Wurlitzer organ. He added that he may be the first Scot to hold this position since the tower opening in 1894. Gordon said: "While neither Blackpool nor the Tower Ballroom itself are attracting the droves of holiday makers they once did, the Tower Ballroom, with its architecture, history and unique atmosphere, is still a very special and magical place, and being among the team of players there is still considered something of a 'holy grail' among organists, so it's a huge honour and gives me great pleasure to have been asked. "I've done some very exciting things in live performance and broadcasting over my thirty-year career, but this particular job has a special appeal to the ten-year-old boy who's still inside me somewhere - the slightly untypical ten-year-old who was more keen to spend his Blackpool holidays on the balcony of the Tower Ballroom watching and listening to the organists than in amusement arcades or at the Pleasure Beach." Gordon had his first performance at the ballroom on Friday, August 1, which was scheduled from 2.30pm until 4pm. Gordon was classically trained in piano and singing at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, now known as the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, before embarking on a professional career which is about to enter its fourth decade. Beyond Blackpool Tower Ballroom, Gordon contributes to musical projects and performances across the stylistic spectrum, including classical, jazz, traditional Scottish, and music theatre. He regularly performs at Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum and serves as organist and director of music at St. Andrew's West Parish Church. His piano-playing has featured on many commercially-released recordings, as well as on many soundtracks of television, radio and film, and he has acted as accompanist to many stars from the world of music and entertainment - from American opera royalty, Marilyn Horne to British musical national treasure, Dame Vera Lynn. He has worked as an accompanist to several touring opera companies and as an orchestral piano/celeste player with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
