Soon after the likely formation of the first tropical storm in the eastern Pacific basin, there will be some opportunities for tropical development in the Atlantic, perhaps close to Florida, Central America and Mexico, during the first couple of weeks of June, AccuWeather meteorologists say.
June 1 marks the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season. Early-season tropical storm formation often has many obstacles, including harsh winds (strong wind shear), dry air and cool water. As the season progresses, moist air, warmer waters and lessening wind shear make it easier for tropical storms to form.
AccuWeather meteorologists look for atmospheric patterns that can help jump-start tropical development early in the season, when conditions are typically less favorable.
The Central America gyre is a large, slowly spinning area of low pressure that usually forms over Central America and can sometimes give birth to early-season storms. This failed to form in early May, which is why no tropical storms formed during that time.
Another setup that can aid early-season development is a lingering front in the Gulf, the Caribbean, or the southwest Atlantic. When a front stalls, it can create enough moisture and upward motion in the atmosphere to gradually support tropical formation.
"We will be watching a zone stretching from Florida waters to the Bahamas and Cuba during the first few days of June," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said.
This area will produce a broad region of showers and thunderstorms, which may help ease dry conditions over the Florida Peninsula. Any tropical development in this zone during the first few days of June is unlikely, but that could change if some slight spin develops in the region.

Just a few days later, over the western and central Caribbean, the combination of that lingering front, congregating moisture, and perhaps a tropical wave could assist in stirring up some tropical trouble, Pydnowski explained. A tropical wave is a ripple of low pressure that often contains showers and thunderstorms and travels from east to west across the tropical Atlantic and Pacific.
Pydnowski noted that any potential development is still about 10 days out, and conditions that support tropical organization may not come together.
Beyond a couple of tropical waves of low pressure moving westward, much of the tropical Atlantic appeared to be mostly free of cloud cover Tuesday.
The areas near Central America, the Caribbean Islands, and the southeastern part of North America are the favored spots for early-season tropical development.
AccuWeather's team of long-range forecasters, including lead hurricane expert Alex DaSilva, is expecting 13-18 named storms this season, with seven to 10 becoming hurricanes. Of these, three to six are forecast to have a direct impact on the United States.

In PSMAddition, the SoC is a combination of androgen receptor pathway inhibitor (ARPI) therapy and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT)3. Almost all mHSPC patients ultimately progress to metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC)4. There is a need for additional treatment options with novel mechanisms of action that further delay progression, prolong OS and improve disease control compared to the current SoC, while showing a favorable safety and tolerability profile. 'The progression from metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer to castration-resistant disease remains a formidable challenge that can profoundly impact the survival of patients,' said Shreeram Aradhye, M.D., President, Development and Chief Medical Officer at Novartis. About PSMAddition study PSMAddition (NCT04720157) is a Phase III, open-label, prospective, 1:1 randomized study comparing the efficacy and safety of Pluvicto in combination with SoC (ARPI + ADT) vs. SoC alone in adult patients with PSMA-positive mHSPC3. Patients randomized to the SoC alone arm are allowed to crossover to receive Pluvicto, upon confirmation of radiographic progression by blinded independent review committee (BIRC) and per the discretion of the treating physician3. The primary endpoint is rPFS, defined as the time to radiographic progression by PCWG3-modified RECIST V1.1 (as assessed by BIRC) or death3. The northern lights may be visible over a large swath of New England tonight due to a large geomagnetic storm, possibly even dipping into northern Rhode Island. "The G4 (Severe) geomagnetic storm watch remains in effect for tonight, June 1st (EDT), as CME passage continues," the Space Weather Prediction Center said in a 2 p.m. alert on June 1. "There are indications that the coronal mass ejection (CME) passage is weakening, but the solar wind conditions remain elevated, therefore additional periods of G3-G4 (Strong-Severe) levels remain possible. However, we now anticipate that conditions should weaken enough by tomorrow evening, June 2nd (EDT), that G1 (Minor) storm levels is the most likely peak response." The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Center prediction map is showing that all of New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont have a chance to see the spectacle tonight, including a large chunk of Massachusetts. The possible view line is just touching Rhode Island, meaning there's a chance that people will see them. The question is, will the weather cooperate? AccuWeather is currently forecasting partly cloudy skies, so if the lights reach it's possible cloud cover will be a problem. The sun is currently at solar maximum, according to NASA, the peak of activity in its natural cycle, which is creating more opportunities to see the northern lights. Here's what to know. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) aurora forecast, the northern lights may reach to Rhode Island tonight, but only in the northern tip of the state. However, odds improve if people make a trip to Massachusetts where much of the state is firmly in the view line, and become even better in northern New England and New York. The northern lights are typically most visible between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. according to NOAA. "Best aurora is usually within an hour or two of midnight (between 10 PM and 2 AM local time)," the said. "These hours of active aurora expand towards evening and morning as the level of geomagnetic activity increases. There may be aurora in the evening and morning but it is usually not as active and therefore, not as visually appealing." As always, dark skies make for better stargazing. "We typically suggest getting away from cities and find a open field or hilltop to lay out under the stars and wait for the show to really peak at the late evening or early morning hours," Massachusetts Institute of Technology Technical Instructor and Observatory Manager Tim Brothers said in a past interview with Wicked Local. He continued, "In New England, heading for a local conservation area or park that keeps lighting off at night is ideal. Another option is a coastline away from the larger cities — the benefit being that the constellation where you will see most of the 'shooting stars.'" The Southwest is typically dry this time of year. The monsoon, or the shift in winds that brings moisture into the area, does not usually begin until July. However, AccuWeather meteorologists say a former tropical storm along with a separate feature in the atmosphere will conspire to bring early-season rainfall. "A low pressure area tapping into moisture from the Gulf of California and, additionally, moisture from the eastern Pacific being brought north by former Tropical Storm Alvin will cause thunderstorms in the Desert Southwest through Tuesday," explained AccuWeather Meteorologist Jacob Hinson. Overall, the rain will be beneficial. Much of the region has been entrenched in an extreme to exceptional drought. "The drought means the ground is dry and, counterintuitively, less able to absorb water, "said Hinson. This occurs because rain is more likely to cause runoff on the hardened ground. Over time, water will eventually be able to penetrate into the ground and soil as the surface becomes more moist. Of course, thunderstorms will also produce lightning. For anyone with outdoor plans, lightning strikes will be a prominent danger. Even outside of thunderstorms, there will be an overall uptick in humidity. Therefore, anyone who must work outside will want to stay hydrated. That said, the clouds and rain will keep temperatures lower than what they otherwise would be with sunshine. In some locations, thunderstorms may contain little or no rainfall. Gusty winds caused by the thunderstorms could then present another hazard: blowing dust. That can be very hazardous as visibility can be suddenly and severely reduced. Motorists traveling at highway speed may need to slow down very quickly, which can be dangerous to other motorists. Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, southwestern Colorado and the eastern part of Southern California would be the most likely areas to experience blowing dust. Where too much rain falls, flooding can be a concern. "Flash flooding can occur in arroyos (dry stream beds), small streams and canyons, as these areas may rapidly fill with water, even with thunderstorms that are miles upstream," warned AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex the app? Unlock AccuWeather Alerts™ with Premium+ "The atmosphere will be holding onto about 1.50 to 1.75 inches of water, which is about how much rain could potentially fall from any particularly strong thunderstorm," cautioned Hinson. The Four Corners and Southeastern California will be the focus of the showers and thunderstorms through Tuesday. While the intensity of the showers and thunderstorms may subside a bit after Tuesday, the coverage area is likely to expand. "As moisture expands over the next few days, thunderstorms can extend as far north as Idaho and southern Montana. These thunderstorms will not be as strong but can certainly prompt flash flooding, especially across area that have had very little in the way of rain this year," said Hinson. Showers and thunderstorms should finally come to an end in Arizona and New Mexico by Friday, as moisture becomes focused farther to the north.
