Sony Teases PS6, PS5 ‘Multi-Generational' Plan

Yahoo15 hours ago

Sony Group held a business segment presentation earlier today, during which the company teased a 'multi-generational' plan for and . PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino pledged 'new and enhanced' ways for players to play games on both platforms.
Nishino acknowledged that there's a lot of interest surrounding the PS6 already, and while he understandably couldn't divulge future plans, he did say that the upcoming console is 'top of mind' for Sony. However, seeing the high levels of engagement from PS4 players well beyond the launch of PS5, the company intends to disrupt traditional approach to console life cycles.
What this essentially means is that unlike the switch from PS3 to PS4, the current generation validated Sony's new 'multi-generational' approach, and it plans to continue using that strategy going forward.
'We're still exploring what the future of our platform would look like,' added Sony Interactive Entertainment SVP Lynn Azar. 'We've reduced traditional cyclicality by establishing a large ecosystem of players across both the PS5 and PS4 generations. And as we continue to drive a multi-generational ecosystem into the future, we'll provide new ways for players to access the platform and experience our content and services.'
PS6 is expected to launch by 2028 at the latest.

Sony's noise-canceling WH-1000XM6 are already on sale with a $30 gift card

Less than a month after making their debut, the WH-1000XM6 are on sale at Amazon in black, blue, and platinum with a $30 gift card for $448. It's not a straight cash discount, sure, but if you were already debating picking up Sony's latest pair of noise-canceling headphones, it makes the $50 price hike over the last-gen XM5 easier to stomach. If you were to ignore the steep price hike, the new XM6 are a welcome improvement over the XM5 in every way. They're outfitted with Sony's latest noise-cancellation chip, which allows them to do a better job at drowning out the ambient noise you might encounter on the street, at your local coffee shop, or on your next cross-country flight. Their transparency mode is as natural-sounding as ever, too, and thanks to a new set of drivers, they deliver clearer vocals and the same dynamic, rich sound for which the XM series is known. Design-wise, they also represent an excellent return to form, albeit with a few minor tweaks for added comfort and convenience. They sport a wider headband that's designed to alleviate pressure during longer listening sessions, along with a redesigned power button that's easier to distinguish from the onboard ANC button. More importantly, however, they once again collapse with the aid of a joint in each arm, allowing them to take up less room in the included carrying case. As someone who frequently travels with the XM5 — the only pair in the XM series that can't fold down — I can say the change is greatly appreciated. More ways to save this weekend 8BitDo's Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller has fallen to its lowest price to date at Amazon, where you can grab it in green or purple for an all-time low of $25.49 (about $5 off). The 2C is a great little gamepad for Windows and Android, one you can connect via USB-C, Bluetooth, or a 2.4GHz dongle boasting a 1,000Hz polling rate. It's also got an extra set of remappable shoulder buttons and Hall effect sticks / triggers, so you needn't worry about the notorious 'Joy-Con drift' that has plagued consoles like the Switch. When it comes to portable batteries, Anker and EcoFlow are the two biggest names that come to mind. Jackery is a close second, though, and now through June 18th, you can save up to $3,300 on various power solutions thanks to the company's Father's Day sale. There's a lot on offer, but the highlight for me is the port-heavy Explorer 1000 power station, which is available for a limited time from Jackery and Amazon for just shy of $500 ($300 off). If you're big on Android Auto but hate having to plug your phone into your car's infotainment system, Motorola's MA1 wireless car adapter is on sale at Best Buy for a new low of $34.99 (50 percent off). The Chromecast-looking USB dongle pairs with smartphones running Android 11 or higher via Bluetooth, allowing you to then transmit data over 5Ghz Wi-Fi. Just ensure your car or aftermarket head unit actually supports Android Auto in the first place.

PlayStation Has Its Head In The Sand About Its Live Service Future

Marathon While fans wait for crumbs of new information about PlayStation games like Intergalactic or Wolverine, Sony is continuing to tout their current and future live service plans, saying that it is "very, very committed to building a diverse and a resilient live-service portfolio,' according to boss Herman Hulst. This is in the wake of promises that PlayStation has learned lessons from the failure of Concord: "We have reviewed our processes in light of this to deeply understand how and why that title failed to meet expectations and to ensure we're not going to make the same mistakes again,' Hulst said. Live Services But looking at Sony's plans in the plain light of day, and despite all this projected confidence, it very much feels like the company is burying its head in the sand when it comes to the reality of its situation. Of the games pictured on its live-service planning sheet, we can break most of them down in different ways: Helldivers 2 FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Helldivers 2 – An unequivocal success story, one of the only ones Sony has had during this recent push, but something of a limited-time offer. Developer Arrowhead is not a Sony studio, and it has announced that because Helldivers 2 has done so well, that they are able to self-fund and publish their next game without Sony's help at all. While they say it's no shade to Sony, it reinforces that Arrowhead is not some sort of in-house live-service powerhouse they can rely on indefinitely, and they will be moving on. Destiny 2 Frontiers Destiny 2 – The decade-spanning series is something of a miracle in the land of live services, and you can say it actually helped launch the entire trend. But in year 11, things are scaling way down in the post-Light and Darkness era. The game has gone from record highs to record lows as it moves toward a new 'Frontiers' era, which will allow the game to subsist, but it is simply never going to reach previously high water marks from here. Sony will also not allow Bungie to put D2 to bed in order to take time to make a Destiny 3 that may never even get here as D2 shambles on past its expiration date. Marathon Marathon – Herman Hulst made headlines calling the game 'bold and innovative' and slides touting 'strong engagement' about the game, but it's just sandblasting away the enormous issues facing Marathon, a quadruple combo blow of 1) a poor gameplay showcase, 2) mixed-to-poor alpha feedback, 3) a headline-dominating art plagiarism scandal, 4) a post-alpha, post-plagiarism livestream that did little to reassure anyone on any front. Marathon is in deep trouble, and it will take something of a miracle for this game to land the way Sony wants it to as an industry hit. Fairgame$ Fairgames – The head of the studio, Jade Raymond, just left the project. Reports of internal tests say the game is bad. We have not seen or heard anything from it in almost two years. This is either going to be cancelled ahead of release or explode on the launchpad. If any game had a Concord-like future ahead of it, if it did actually come out, it's Fairgames. Those are the listed games. The other major, non-cancelled projects we know about are an upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn multiplayer monster-hunter, where we've seen almost nothing from it, and it will involve the always-risky idea of trying to convert fans of a single player series into something that's a dedicated multiplayer offering. Sony carved out a chunk of Bungie to make a new, in-house studio working on the game codenamed Gummy Bears, which does not have a name or any sort of preview footage, and while internal tests have been positive, it's hardly the first time we've heard that before. Perhaps the most promising item is what we have the least amount of information about, that Jason Blundell has his own studio inside Sony now and may make something cool akin to his Black Ops Zombies experience. But again, zero information here. Sony may be putting on a brave face, but things are going poorly. Its next two live games are probably not even a coinflip of whether they fail or not, and if there are any ones that work past that, they're still years away with literally nothing public shown about any of them. It's not good. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

Konami Stock (9766) Jumps on Silent Hill Remake Announcement

Konami (JP:9766) stock jumped on Friday after the video game company announced a remake of Silent Hill, the first title in its long-running horror game series. This remake will be handled by Bloober Team, the development studio behind the 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2. Additionally, NeoBards Entertainment is working on a new entry in the series, titled Silent Hill f, set to be released on Sept. 25, 2025. Confident Investing Starts Here: Konami didn't reveal much in the way of details about its Silent Hill remake. However, it could be a huge success for the company if it follows in the footsteps of the Silent Hill 2 remake. The video game developer is taking a page out of Capcom's (CCOEF) book, which has attracted gamers with its remakes of Resident Evil games. It makes sense that Konami would want to cash in on the recent success Capcom has seen, and Silent Hill is the perfect way to do it. Both Silent Hill and Resident Evil started on Sony's (SONY) original PlayStation back in the 90s and spawned a large collection of sequels and spinoffs. If there's any series out there that can rival Resident Evil, it's Silent Hill. Konami Stock Movement Today Investors appear pleased with Konami's plans to remake Silent Hill. Shares of 9766 jumped 2.52% on the news alongside a trading volume that was roughly double the company's three-month daily average. The recent rally also extended positive 2025 movement for Konami, with shares up 39.36% year-to-date. Is Konami Stock a Buy, Sell, or Hold? Turning to Wall Street, the analysts' consensus rating for Konami is Strong Buy, based on four Buy and a single Hold rating over the past three months. With that comes an average 9766 price target of ¥20,168, representing a potential 1.74% downside for the shares.
