Over 60,000 Volkswagen and Audi electric cars recalled for risk of rollaway
Over 60,000 Volkswagen and Audi electric vehicle s have been recalled for a faulty gear display that could increase the chance of the vehicle rolling away, according to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Impacted vehicles may not display the 'N' gear position on the instrument panel, causing risk of driver confusion and a failure to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
'If the correct transmission gear position indicator is not shown and the electronic parking brake is not engaged, the driver may be unable to identify the transmission shift position, increasing the risk of a crash and vehicle roll away,' a Volkswagen dealer communication reads.
The recall affects 2022-2023 Audi Q4 e-Trons and Q4 Sportback e-Trons, as well as 2021-2023 Volkswagen ID.4s. All impacted vehicles are fully electric.
Audi is a subsidiary of the German company Volkswagen Group, among many other prominent car brands like Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini.
Affected owners will be notified by April 25, 2025, according to the NHTSA. They are encouraged to take the vehicles to a dealership that will 'update the brake control unit software' at no charge to the vehicle owner.
Volkswagen is advising dealers to 'schedule owner repairs immediately' and precautions diligence when driving the impacted vehicles.
'If the parking brake is not engaged, the red parking brake indicator light on the instrument cluster will not be illuminated,' Volkswagen said in its notice to dealers. 'Before leaving the vehicle, owners are advised to confirm the parking brake indicator light has illuminated in order to help avoid a situation where the vehicle could roll when it is not intended to do so.'
The recall comes just weeks after nearly 30,000 Volkswagen and Audis were separately recalled for a faulty rear view camera display. Affected vehicles include 2024-2025 Audi Q3s, 2023 Volkswagen Arteons, and 2022-2024 Volkswagen Tiguans.
Those impacted by vehicle recalls are able to contact the NHTS at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9153) or visit nhtsa.gov.

Volkswagen Considering Smaller, Cheaper Electric ID.Buzz MPV
And it could go into production as soon as 2027. Fun And Practical EV Would Supersede Europe's Touran The Volkswagen is one of the most cheerful new family vehicles you can buy, but its starting price of $59,995 limits its appeal. That's still far more expensive than conventional gas or hybrid minivans like the Chrysler Pacifica. However, it looks like a smaller, cheaper sibling could be on the way, based on a new report by Autocar. 0:02 / 0:09 Nissan's revolutionary self-driving tech hits Japan's streets Watch More The report suggests that the new VW would replace the Touran, an MPV that has never been sold in the United States, given our market's preference for SUVs. Currently being internally reviewed by Volkswagen, the potential Touran replacement could draw inspiration from one of the brand's most exciting concepts. 2016 Budd-E Concept Could Inspire Smaller Source: VW The Budd-E was the first VW model to be based on the MEB modular platform that now underpins models like the ID.4, ID.7 and . The electric minivan concept still looks ultra-modern today, with its wraparound windshield, two-tone body, and bold face with sleek lighting. It's this concept that could inspire the Touran replacement, but this is just one of several older MPV concepts VW is reviewing. The minimal overhangs and flat floor will maximize interior space but keep the proportions tight, which is exactly why this type of vehicle excels. According to insiders, new sliding door and seat designs are being considered to make this vehicle as versatile as possible. Source: VW Powering the Touran replacement could be a choice of single or dual electric motors. To keep the price low enough, an output of around 200 to 250 hp seems reasonable, given that the larger manages between 282 and 335 hp. The and ID.4 are rear-wheel drive as standard, but its smaller sibling may rely on front-wheel drive as standard. EVs of this size would be expected to have a range of at least 240 miles or so to be competitive. Will The Smaller Make It To America? VW — Source: VW At this point, it seems unlikely that a smaller version of the would be sold here. Such a vehicle would clash with the ID.4 in terms of price – the priciest ID.4 starts at just below the price of the . Besides this, few Americans choose SUVs over minivans or MPVs. The smaller and cheaper is expected to be launched by 2027 at the earliest, assuming Volkswagen does decide to put it into production. If it has the same nostalgic styling and clever versatility of the , but at a lower price, it'll be one of VW's top EVs. About the Author Karl Furlong View Profile

Audi's Upcoming Q3 Faces These 3 Fierce Competitors
Audi will reveal its new crossover next week, and it has to overcome these three competitors. New Q3 Faces Stiff Competition Audi teased the new-generation Q3 subcompact crossover this week, which is set to be fully revealed on Monday, June 16. We expect a range of improvements to the brand's smallest crossover, which slots in below the Q5. While specifics about the Q3 are still up in the air, we do know which key rivals the new Q3 will have to match or surpass if it is to succeed in this competitive segment. Let's take a closer look at those. BMW X1: The Sporty One The third-generation BMW X1 debuted for the 2023 model year in the United States, and it's always been regarded as a sportier alternative to the more subdued Q3. That hasn't changed for the latest X1, which sports assertive, angular lines and two energetic powertrains. Even the base xDrive28i model has 241 horsepower and a 6.2-second 0-60 mph sprint time, easily better than the current Q3. The M35i gets 313 hp and a 5.2-second sprint, along with all the aggressive touches we expect of an M-lite model. Despite its focus on performance, the X1 still delivers as a practical crossover, with a spacious rear seat and trunk. At 25.7 cubic feet, the X1 has a slightly larger trunk than the current Q3. To match or surpass the X1, Audi will need to sharpen up the new Q3's chassis, while also giving it more power to keep up with its BMW rival. Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class: The Fancy One While the X1 entertains, the GLA impresses with its ritzy cabin, smooth ride, and posh appearance. It's evolved into a far more cohesive package than the first-generation GLA, but the Mercedes is quite expensive, starting at $43,000. The base model's performance (0-60 in 6.8 seconds) falls somewhere between the current Q3 and X1. Inside, the GLA has the most striking design of these small luxury crossovers, with dual screens and elaborate lighting. It's not necessarily more substantial than the Audi or BMW, but the high-tech look appeals to the younger crowd, and they'll most likely be shopping in this category. We expect the new Q3 to match the GLA in terms of tech, while being similarly refined. 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class Volvo XC40: The Left-Field One The XC40 is no longer new, but Volvo got the small SUV recipe so right from the start that it remains in contention with its German competitors. The Volvo has a chunky yet timeless look to it, and the uncluttered interior has a more serene vibe than the high-tech GLA's. Volvo's infotainment system is not quite as advanced as the others, though. The standard 247-hp powertrain delivers perky performance, with a 0-60 time of only 6.1 seconds. Once again, this is better than what the current Q3 delivers. It's also worth noting that the XC40 has a powerful 402-hp plug-in hybrid powertrain, which the existing Q3 does not. However, the new Q3 may have its own PHEV, which would greatly diversify the powertrain lineup for this smallest Audi crossover. Inside, Volvo's interior quality is excellent, whereas some new Audi models seem to be a downgrade compared to previous models – let's hope the Q3 doesn't take a step back in this aspect. Final Thoughts Audi has often occupied a middle ground between the sportiness of BMW and the luxury of Mercedes, and the new Q3 is expected to do the same. Depending on how you look at it, this is a good or a bad thing: Either Audi offers the best of both worlds or ends up with a muddled identity. Based on these three rivals, we hope Audi has focused on driver appeal and performance. These are areas in which one or more of these talented crossovers excel, or where the existing Q3 has fallen behind the pack. The current Q3 is still competitive in terms of quality and refinement, so we hope the same cost-cutting that's evident in larger new Audi models has not been applied here. All will be revealed early next week when the covers come off the new Q3. 2026 Audi Q3 teaser About the Author Karl Furlong View Profile

Volkswagen Polo Edition 50 celebrates, well guess…
Volkswagen has revealed a new Polo Edition 50 to celebrate the popular supermini's half century of existence. Priced from £26,350, it'll be available in what VW calls limited numbers in the UK, with sales kicking off later this month. Unique to the Polo Edition 50 is the Crystal Blue paintwork, further enhanced by 17-inch alloy wheels and unique Edition 50 badges. Uprated LED front and rear lights are also standard fit, helping give the whole car an almost luxurious feel above and beyond the usual found in the supermini class. Advertisement - Article continues below Inside, VW has fitted more Edition 50 badges, plus a gloss black dashboard insert and privacy glass on the rear windows. Equipment has also been upgraded with a panoramic glass roof, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera and keyless access and starting. Under the bonnet is a single 89bhp three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrol engine option, matched to a five-speed manual transmission. There's no sign of a dual-clutch option, or more powerful powertrains, leading to an unusual combination of a very high equipment list paired with one of the lower-specification engines. Yet while it might be easy to sign this special edition off as a rather thin effort in celebrating 50 years of an iconic model like the Polo, VW has much bigger plans later in the year when its all-electric ID.2, or arrives as the lynchpin for the brand's entire future line up. While the Polo isn't going anywhere quite yet, it'll be the new ID.2 which represents VW's actual celebration of offering an affordable model to buyers wanting the Volkswagen experience, just as the first Polo did 50 years ago. Only now, it won't have a combustion engine. Now you can buy a car through our network of top dealers around the UK. Search for the latest deals…
