Man killed and nine rushed to hospital as BROCCOLI recalled across Italy in deadly outbreak

They were all showing signs of botulism linked to the popular green vegetable KILLER VEG Man killed and nine rushed to hospital as BROCCOLI recalled across Italy in deadly outbreak A MAN has died after taking a fatal bite of a broccoli and sausage sandwich amid a growing botulism outbreak. Broccoli has now been recalled in Italy after nine others were hospitalised with similar symptoms after eating the same meal from a food truck. 2 Luigi Di Sarno, 52, died on Thursday after purchasing a broccoli and sausage sandwich Credit: Facebook 2 Broccoli in the region has now been recalled Credit: Getty Luigi Di Sarno, 52, died on Thursday after eating the sandwich from a street vendor on the Diamante seafront in the province of Cosenza. Di Sarno's family also fell ill as they were all rushed to Annunziata Hospital in Cosenza including two 17-year-olds and two women in their 40s. Two of the patients were reportedly in a serious condition when they arrived at the intensive care unit. They were all showing signs of botulism linked to the popular green vegetable. Botulism is a rare condition which can often be life-threatening and is caused by toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Following the outbreak in the Cosenza area, The Paola Public Prosecutor's Office immediately ordered the seizure of jars of broccoli in oil, according to local media. The food truck where the sandwiches were made has also been seized with an investigation launched into the spread of the toxin. Di Sarno was on holiday in Calabria with his family when they all stopped off for a bite to eat on the Tyrrhenian coast of Cosenza. After finishing the meal, the artist and musician was driving his loved ones back home to Cercola, in the province of Naples. As they merged onto the highway near Lagonegro in Potenza, the 52-year-old suddenly fell ill. His health rapidly worsened after he was forced to stop in the small town in Basilicata on Thursday. Emergency officials were called but he tragically died before reaching hospital. His family, alongside several other customers who ate the broccoli, received immediate care in Cosenza. An autopsy is being finalised to determine the exact cause of death. Local media suspect it was botulism due to the swift actions taken in seizing the jars. More to follow... 'Life saver' air fryer hack that will remove pesky grease stains in just minutes

Air fryers continue to soar in popularity as home cooks turn to the handy kitchen appliance to prepare their food, rather than a traditional oven. They are seen as more economical, more convenient and tidier tucked away on a kitchen counter but they can be tricky to keep clean. Air fryers often accumulate grease, fat and oil stains which can be difficult to scrub off. But it is important to keep them clean because it could affect the flavour and preparation of meals. The Express reports that there is a very straightforward and inexpensive method that works a treat for keeping your air fryer drawers spick and span. The advice comes from a Facebook user who offered her hack on the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips group on Facebook. Adrianna Griffin took to the group to share that dishwasher tablets are a little-known secret to banish stubborn marks on air fryers in just a few minutes. Dishwasher tablets are the secret solution Cheap and cheerful dishwasher tablets are likely already in your home as they are required for dishwashers but, apparently, they also work to bring your air fryer back to its pristine best. Adrianna shared an image of her immaculate air fryer basket, posting: "Whoever said using a dishwasher tablet for the air fryer is a lifesaver. "The pieces of food stuck to the tray were impossible to remove with just scrubbing." She continued: "Just a five-minute soak with boiling hot water, a rinse and wipe and the job was done. The grease had just melted away. I don't even have a dishwasher, but picked these up very cheap and thought they could be used for some cleaning hacks I've seen on this page." Dishwasher tablets work by combing a number of cleaning agents such as detergents, enzymes, bleaching agents, alkaline salts and rinse aids, which is ideal for tackling tough grease stains, unpleasant odours and unsightly marks left over from cooking. The method was put to the test by The Express and was praised for how effective it proved as the air fryer came out glistening, with all food remnants gone and all complete within a few minutes.
