Football yob who knocked out woman with chair during feisty poolside Ibiza brawl breaks silence to reveal reason behind his violent act

Daily Mail8 hours ago

The yob footballer who was filmed hurling a chair at a woman's face during a shameful Ibiza poolside brawl has accused the victim of going down 'easily' but revealed he feels 'terrible' and 'apologetic' after 'accidentally hitting' her.
Oldham Athletic striker Kian Harratt, 23, was seen launching the furniture in the direction of a middle-aged woman who was trying to break up a brawl between his friends and another group of Brit holidaymakers.
After being hit the woman collapses to the ground holding her face while the other group fall into the pool and topless Harratt, exclusively identified by MailOnline, retreats out of shot.
Since the video has been shared online on Sunday it has been reposted by the League Two footballer who has also shared various snaps of himself on holiday on the Spanish island.
Harrat has now broken his silence on the fracas, alleging that he 'accidentally hit' the lady after throwing a chair back which had first been 'lobbed towards' him.
While admitting he was 'very apologetic and 'felt terrible', the striker accused the woman of going 'down a bit easy' and said he would have felt 'even worse' if he allowed his mate to 'get badly beaten up while he's trying to enjoy his holiday'.

Harrat, who scored the winning goal at Wembley to secure Oldham's place in League 2 just three weeks ago, also claimed his group had merely been involved in the brawl after responding to a 'big bully' who allegedly made people at the pool feel uncomfortable.
He said tensions had risen after his eighteen-year-old friend splashed the '6'6 bully' who was 'built like a brick'.
Harrat also shared a video on TikTok which appeared to show his friend being punched in the face.
His friend was then kicked while he was on the floor, the 23-year-old claimed, before it spilled over into a full on brawl, where the Oldham forward eventually hurled the chair at the woman.
The same man who threw the punch at his friend is later seen falling into the pool.
Posting on TikTok, Harratt wrote: 'Just for the people who have seen the video circling the internet of me throwing a chair 'FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON'
'Here's the fella who started it all and let me just say he was the worst man you could ever come across and a bully!
'He was 6,6 and built like a brick! Anyway he was swimming over to young couples while they're all chilling and trying to make the lad feel uncomfortable flirting with there girls and all sorts of daft stuff like that!

Brandon Watkins from Nuneaton, who was one of the lads confronted by Harratt's group at the Marco Polo Hotel in San Antonio, described the encounter in a post on Facebook.
He wrote: 'Five lads came to our hotel being nobs around the pool splashing people throwing balls at women and one lad says 'what are you looking at' so he approaches me and I drop him… they then start throwing chairs because they couldn't fight and everyone knows how slippy it is round a pool so stopping chairs hitting us I slip in the pool and that's what went viral.
'If they let me get back out the pool or got in with me then they would have been slapped again but they didn't they got kicked out …. Everyone sat around the pool after was coming up to us shaking our hands and buying us drinks because the lads were bellends!'
The brawl comes just three weeks after Harratt fired Oldham to Wembley glory, scoring the winning goal in extra-time of their 3-2 victory over Southend United to earn a League 2 spot next season.
But fans were quick to condemn his actions and urged his club to tear up his contract.
One posted: 'He just can't help himself can he. I've defended him multiple times [and] even was happy when he scored the winner against Southend but you can't be throwing chairs at women Kian.'
Another commented: 'I'll be stunned if he plays for us this season. Embarrassment, no way for anybody to act – never mind someone in the public eye.'
Kian's mother Kathleen Duncan said she was also aware of the video but did not want to comment.
She said: 'Kian won't be back til later. He's still on holiday. I think he's meant to be flying this morning. He was supposed to have landed in Leeds but he cancelled his flight because he missed it.
'He wouldn't be able to say anything [about the video] - it would be down to his agent. He will be back later this afternoon.'

It's not Harratt's first brush with controversy. Last year while on loan at Fleetwood Town from Huddersfield Town he was fined £1,000 by police after he was caught poaching in North Yorkshire.
Police were called just before midnight on February 6 to investigate a vehicle being driven suspiciously around Whashton, near Richmond.
A short while later Harratt, from Pontefract, and Daniel Luke Dimmock, 34, from Castleford were found carrying large black lamps, and with lurcher-type dogs on slip leads, police said. The men were searched, and their lamps and vehicle seized.
They were both later charged with entering land as a trespasser at night with poaching equipment.
They were found guilty of entering land as a trespasser at night with poaching equipment at Harrogate Magistrates Court on December 19 and fined £1,153 each, and ordered to pay hundreds of pounds more in costs and surcharges, according to police.
He was also convicted of poaching at a farm in East Yorkshire in 2022 and fined £830, plus £233 costs.
Also, Harratt was banned from football for four months in the 2023-24 season while at Huddersfield after placing 484 bets on matches over a three-year period.
That came with a £3,200 fine and 36 of the bets were on Huddersfield games - though he insisted he was not in the matchday squad for any of them.

EXCLUSIVE Revealed: What REALLY happened at the poolside punch-up? The so-called '6'6 bully' at the heart of the brawl involving a football yob speaks out

A holidaymaker at the centre of a shameful Ibiza swimming pool brawl in which British professional footballer Kian Harratt threw a plastic chair at a woman has accused the star of starting the mayhem. In shocking footage the Oldham Athletic striker, 23, was seen launching the chair into the face of an innocent middle-aged woman who was trying to break up the fight. Harratt has since claimed the fight was started by a '6'6 bully' who punched his friend. But that man Brandon Watkins, 31, hit back at Harratt's claim that he started it, saying: 'I'm 6ft 4 for a start and I'm not a bully.' Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Brandon insisted the player 'provoked' his friends and their whole group were 'looking for a fight' when they arrived at the Marco Polo Hotel in San Antonio on Saturday afternoon. He said: 'The fight happened on day five of our holiday. We'd been around that pool every day and getting on with everybody and making friends with people. 'These guys turned up and started throwing balls about. 'Several people were saying they're going to be trouble even before it kicked off. 'At one point one of his mates got in the pool next to me and just started aggressively splashing me. One of them said what are you looking at? 'They were just being a nightmare. One lad was winding us up. Kian was sat right next to him and if anything Kian was provoking him. 'Next thing I knew Kian picked up a chair and threw it. 'I got the impression he was intoxicated, they were sat near the bar before and if they were sober they wouldn't have acted like that. 'After the brawl happened people were buying us drinks and congratulating us, that's how bad this group were 'It's just outrageous for a footballer to behave like he did.' The viral video shows Brandon's group clashing with Harratt's friends before the unnamed woman tried to intervene and was hit by a chair. Several men including Brandon fell into the pool and another chair was thrown at them before hotel security rushed in to intervene. Brandon - who was on holiday with four school friends - stayed with the injured woman and her friends after Harratt's group were kicked out of the hotel and later helped her back to her room because she had broken her toe in the fall. He added: 'Would I have done that if I was a bully who was making them uncomfortable?' Brandon's version is also backed up by a close pal of the woman who was hit by the chair. The friend - who was sunbathing by the pool when the brawl kicked off - said: 'It was carnage, I've never seen anything like it in my life. My friend was injured. They were all just shouting and swearing at each other. 'She's an absolute angel and such a good person which is why she got involved - she saw people were arguing and she just went over to stop it. 'But when she did Kian spoke to her like she was a piece of shit and Brandon stepped in out of respect and said don't speak to a woman like that. Brandon threw the first punch then all Kian's friends got involved.' After the footage emerged Kian claimed he was 'very apologetic' and 'felt terrible' but accused the woman of 'going down a bit easy' The friend added: 'That's no apology, he has no remorse whatsoever. Him and his mates were kicked out of the hotel without apologising, he's only sorry because he has been identified. 'My friend is really embarrassed by the whole thing, it was a horrible experience made worse as people who have seen the video have been trolling her online. 'He's a professional footballer, a lot of kids look up to him and it's not a good reflection on his club.' The brawl comes just three weeks after Harratt fired Oldham to Wembley glory, scoring the winning goal in extra-time of their 3-2 victory over Southend United to earn a League 2 spot next season. Posting on TikTok, Harratt wrote: 'Just for the people who have seen the video circling the internet of me throwing a chair 'FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON' 'Here's the fella who started it all and let me just say he was the worst man you could ever come across and a bully! Post Office criminal trials may not start until 2028, says police chief

Criminal trials over the Post Office Horizon IT scandal may not start until 2028, the police officer leading the investigation has told the BBC."The teams need to be really meticulous and [pay] attention to detail, but actually we are making some real progress," Met Cdr Stephen Clayman investigation has identified seven suspects, and has 45 to 50 potential suspects in view. But it will not hand files to prosecutors until after the final report from the public inquiry into the scandal is published, expected later this sub-postmaster Tim Brentnall said victims were "desperate to see some kind of accountability", but added the police should "do it properly". The Horizon IT system, which began operating in 1999, falsely created shortfalls in Post Office branches for which sub-postmasters were held liable. More than 900 people were prosecuted, and some went to prison. Some died while waiting for year a law was passed to overturn those convictions en masse. The criminal investigation into the scandal, Operation Olympos, began in 2020, and interviewed two suspects in scaled up activity after the public phase of the inquiry concluded in December last year, and another two people were interviewed under caution, where their answers can be used as evidence in court. Both were men in their Clayman said the police started with "those at the front line – the Post Office investigators, solicitors, those who were involved in the immediate decision-making".But he added: "We are beginning to scope looking at wider management. That will happen, and is happening, it will just take time to get there."He is confident there will be criminal trials, but admits that the first ones may not start until chair of the public inquiry, Sir Wyn Williams, will publish Volume 1 of his final report on 8 July and is expected to file Volume 2 later this year. Then the police will have to go through it "meticulously", hand files to the Crown Prosecution Service, and wait for a court date, said Cdr Clayman."This isn't uncommon," he said. "Other large investigations linked to a public inquiry have exactly the same thing. And I really do understand the frustration for those who are at the centre of this, who are the victims." Former sub-postmaster Tim Brentnall from Roch, Pembrokeshire, was prosecuted in 2010 when a £22,500 shortfall was discovered at his branch. His conviction was overturned in 2021. "The way the Post Office prosecuted me was completely and wholly wrong, [I was] rushed in front of the courts like a rabbit in the headlights and told I was the only one in this position when I wasn't," he said."But if the police have to take their time, they should take their time and do it properly."David Enright, a lawyer whose firm Howe and Co represented seven out of the 10 sub-postmasters who took part in the inquiry, said: "The fact is we have seen sub-postmaster after sub-postmaster die without ever seeing any true accountability. The question sub-postmasters ask themselves is: where is the urgency at the heart of the police investigation?"There are 108 officers working on Olympos, based in four regional hubs. Cdr Clayman was speaking at the Metropolitan Police's hub near the top of a high-rise police office block in Sutton, South officers spend much of their days trawling through the millions of digitised documents which will make up much of the evidence in the cases. They began with 1.5 million, and that is set to rise to six million as more documents come to force in England and Wales are involved, as are the PSNI and Police Clayman had earlier been critical of the Post Office for not handing information over fast enough, but said they were now being "quite good". Fujitsu, he said, were being "very co-operative".A Post Office spokesperson said: "The Post Office has co-operated fully and openly with the Metropolitan Police since early 2020 to provide whatever information it needs for its investigations, and we continue to do so."

Hazel Stewart: Daughter considering meeting mother's killer

The daughter of Lesley Howell has said she has made initial inquiries about possibly meeting her mother's killer to discuss her role in the murder. It comes as Hazel Stewart failed in a legal bid to secure a reduced jail sentence for the double murders of her husband Trevor Buchanan, 32, and 31-year-old Lesley Howell, who was the wife of her former lover Colin Howell. Stewart is currently serving an 18-year term for the 1991 murders. The 62-year-old's fresh legal challenge was made on the basis that she was under the coercive control of Lesley's husband, Colin Howell, who is serving a 21-year sentence in HMP Maghaberry for the murders. 'I saw her as a mummy' Lauren Bradford-Clarke told the BBC's Good Morning Ulster programme she has "reached out" and made "early inquiries" about restorative justice."It's a very, very complicated thing. It would require me to really kind of drag a lot of stuff up," she said. "Being able to move forward, I think it would be quite a long process," she added. Now an assistant professor in criminology, Ms Bradford-Clarke said she uses her "professional head" in order to deal with the trauma."Following my mummy's murder, there were five years where Hazel Stewart was very much part of my life, and I very much remember her and remember the time that we had with her," she said."It's very sad in a lot of ways, I saw her as a mummy. I had lost my mum, and I wanted nothing more than to have a mum."Ms Bradford-Clarke said returning to the court is "very difficult" and "re-traumatising"."I lose sleep, I get very, very upset and emotional. It's definitely something that becomes almost overwhelming," she said. Coercive control In respect of Stewart's recent appeal, Ms Bradford-Clarke said from her recollection, albeit as a young child, the description of "coercive control" did not fit the relationship between her father and Hazel Stewart."That is not my professional opinion, that is my personal opinion," she said. "I do not think that coercive control is a factor here, and I certainly do not think Hazel is a victim."There's many victims in this case. I find it quite distasteful that Hazel Stewart is being labelled a victim here. "What about my mum?" What happened to the victims? Both victims were found in a fume filled garage in Castlerock, County Londonderry in May 1991. Almost two decades later, Colin Howell confessed to the killings. Police originally believed the deaths were the result of a suicide pact after they discovered their partners were having an extra-marital they had been drugged and murdered before their bodies were arranged to make it look like they had taken their own also implicated his former lover in the plot and gave evidence against her at her trial. During the trial, the court heard Howell had planned and carried out the killings and Stewart had facilitated them by drugging her husband, allowing Howell into her house and disposing of a hose pipe used in the murder. 'No joy, no celebration' Speaking on Wednesday after Hazel Stewart's appeal was turned down, Lesley Howell's family, referring to their mother by her maiden name of Lesley Clarke, said they were relieved that this stage of the legal process was over, but there is "no joy and no celebration"."While this decision offers some reassurance, we recognise that there's no true end or closure."Nothing will bring our mum back," her children said.
